Swordtember Day 19: Demon

Dedicated to an RL friend!

At first, when one looks at this sword, one would have never guessed that a tyrant had created it. But sadly, that is the truth. It was built in secret many ages ago following the death of the 1st Snugglemagne. The five brothers schemed and plotted against one another, greedy and willing to go to any length for the throne. The youngest, devious and cunning, had this made by his supporters to get an edge in battle.

But... Something went wrong. The sword
... Was blessed by the Ruby Pure Heart, and didn't choose the prince. Instead, it chose a young child in the countryside. No prestige, just.... Wisdom. Kindness. The youngest brother hated that. He threw tantrums, screaming, "It's not fair! It's my sword! Why is the Ruby picking favourites?!"

Indeed that was the question. The answer was simple; one of them had been chosen, but only as king, not as its wielder.

The middle brother, though, was the same age as the child, even being friends with him and caring a lot for him despite his own greed. At first, he refused to let go of his throne, claiming, 'It's MY birthright! I should rule!"

"But shouldn't you think about the people instead of yourself?"

That question made the middle child go quiet. As he weighed the truth of his friend's words, the youngest's supporters found them and prepared to shoot the young boy down.

However, the middle son noticed and immediately pulled him down beforehand. Saving him from the deadly blow. Despite his actions, the middle child found that he cared more for others than himself. He just never realised his compassion could help him...

The youngest was captured and made to spill about the sword, but the middle child took a different route; he resigned and moved into a quaint town with his friend, having learnt the importance of treasuring life.

It is debated whether they loved each other romantically to this day, but one thing was for certain; the middle child learnt that day that he could defeat his inner demons. By willingly backing out, he found himself in a better space, free to unlearn the toxic traits his mother had taught him.

This sword accepted him the day he made a choice to become a better person little by little.
