[Spring] Flower Viewing
Hanami (, "flower viewing")
is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers; flowers ("hana") are in this case almost always referring to those of the cherry ("Sakura") or, less frequently, plum ("ume") trees.

From the end of March, the beginning of spring, all through April and ending early May, the festival of the blooming cherry trees brings people in the park. They gather under the cherry trees and enjoy the rebirth of Nature, watching the blossoms dance, swirls of soft pink petals gracing the viewers.
Initially, as a festivity exclusive to the Japanese Imperial Court, started during the Nara period (710–794 CE), Hanami gradually became part of the culture and even opened outside of Japan.
Nowadays, Hanami means for thousands of Japanese a time of parties, people gathering in parks to feast and drink on bento, sake and sweets. Family, friends or company coworkers will go to the parks, trying to keep the best place to celebrate. The celebrations can last long hours until night (yozakura -- 夜桜, "night sakura").
