|~Chapter Four~|

Fernstalk looked around. It was dark and only moonlight shone. It was near dawn, so it was a little bit lighter than when they had started their journey.

As Fernstalk took a look around, she saw that it was more or less a huge statue of a cat.

"Who is this cat?" Fernstalk meowed.

Lilacwishes purred. "He was your grandfather."

Fernstalk stepped forward. "G- G- Graybliss?"

Lilacwishes's eyes suddenly turned black and were gone.

"Lilacwishes!"

Fernstalk lunged out for her mother, but she felt something pulling her heart back.

Lilacwishes's fur darkened and there were no more stars around her.

"What's happening?" Fernstalk trembled.

Fernstalk looked around her, darkness overtaking her. She gasped for air, as if her lungs were being squeezed. Fernstalk had a heartache and wanted air. She also wanted to know what is happening to her mother and her.

Fernstalk's sight blackened, and she fell to the ground dead.

"Fernstalk! Get up!"

Fernstalk looked at her white little brother, being as fluffy as usual. She looked around. She was at the same place but also not there. She saw her gray body on the ground.

She looked at herself. She was a starry warrior now.

"I... I'm dead?" Fernstalk whispered.

Dreamkit nodded solemnly. "I'm afraid so, my dear sister."

Fernstalk turned to see a gray Tom whom she was familiar with.

"Graybliss!"

She ran over to the Tom and licked his cheek fur. "I've missed you so much, Graybliss!"

The gray Tom purred and licked her forehead slowly.

"We are going to give you rebirth in your old body. But it is corrupt. Do not listen to the darkness inside of it. This is a matter of life and death," Graybliss recited.

Fernstalk stared at the gray warrior.

"It's either life or death, Fernstalk."

Fernstalk looked at her little fluffy brother sadly.

"Goodbye, Dreamkit. Goodbye, Graybliss. Please watch over me..."

Fernstalk looked at her old body again. She saw Cherrypool and Falconprowl poke her body.

"Set me free," Fernstalk whispered into Falconprowl's ear.

He bit Fernstalk's body on the nose, and her soul traveled back into the body.

"Thank you, Falconprowl! I thought that you wouldn't hear me!" Fernstalk whimpered.

The brown tabby Tom stared at her with interest and relief.

"You need to tell me everything," he meowed in a deep voice.

Fernstalk hopped her head. She ran towards camp, very desperate to get home.

"...and here I am!" Fernstalk finished her story to Hail's fall, Treeleaper, Gorsesky, Barktwist, Driftrain and Falconprowl.

Falconprowl growled. "I'll show that darkness!"

Barktwist signaled Falconprowl with his tail to shut his mouth.

"You're missing something, aren't you?" Barktwist clicked their head.

Fernstalk sighed. "Lilacwishes is dead forever. May the stars never blacken."

"Lilacwishes? No!" Falconprowl wailed like a kit. "I never wanted it to go like this!"

Driftrain put her tail on top of Falconprowl's shoulder. "Don't worry, Falconprowl. She'll be alright..."

Barktwist signaled to Fernstalk to come with them. Fernstalk sighed and followed Barktwist outside of the camp.

"There is something else. Darkness. I can feel it. It's coming from you in waves," Barktwist growled.

Fernstalk gulped. Dreamkit or Graybliss had said something about that... about darkness and that she shouldn't listen to, since it had corrupt her body but not her mind.

Darkness will come and take the Fern's life away, takin the Falcon with it.

This is what it means

Lilacwishes is dead

What will happen to Falconprowl?

She looked at Barktwist. Did Barktwist know?

Barktwist's eyes went black, and their body fell onto the ground.

"BARKTWIST!"

Her voice rang out throughout the clan. Cats ran over as quickly as a fox grabbing a mouse.

Driftrain was the first. She hugged Barktwist's body before turning to Fernstalk.

"What did you do to him, you force of evil!" Driftrain's shrill voice pierced Fernstalk's eardrums.

"It wasn't me, I swear to the Stars! I swear to Barktwist and Lilacwishes and Dreamkit and Graybliss!"

Driftrain's blue-gray fur shone in the moonlight.

"Dreamkit? You know your little brother?"

Fernstalk smiled. "My little brother, the fluffy white Tomkit."

Driftrain's eyes widened, indicating worry.

"What's wrong, Driftrain?"

"You... you weren't..," she started, her mixed eyecolor slowly getting more and more cloudy and dull. "you weren't supposed to know about your brother."

She had said it darkly, her emotion changing. Fernstalk flicked her ear, and bounded back to the clearing.

Fernstalk leaped onto the Telling Trees. "All cats who are old enough to swim, uh..." she meowed loudly and timidly. "come to the Telling Trees?"

Cats came out of their dens with a confused look on their faces. They plopped down on the ground, and yawned.

"What do you want, she-cat?!" a black Tom yowled.

Fernstalk licked her paw. "I... I have seen something terrible, and we are all in great danger. Barktwist is gone, Lilacwishes is gone forever and not in StarClan anymore, and Driftrain is going mad." Her voice cracked.

Cats gasped, yawned, blinked, stood up, wailed, and basically every sign of grief, astonishment, and sleepiness.

"Fernstalk, what do you mean?" Falconprowl meowed.

"Darkness is coming. There was a mention of darkness in the prophecy..."

"The prophecy? Fernstalk, get over here!"

Fernstalk looked at the white she-cat who had yowled at her. Hail's fall. Of course.

Fernstalk leaped off of the Telling Trees and padded over to her leader. She dipped her head, and Hailfall did the same.

"Yes, Hail's fall?"

"The prophecy. Tell me again."

"The darkness that rises will startle the predator stalking through the ferns, taking it's last breathe with the falcon that prowls. Why?"

Hailfall paced around, cats watching her. "You are the predator stalking through the Ferns, Falconprowl is the Falcon that prowls, and darkness is coming. The omen has begun."

"So... darkness will destroy us all?" Fernstalk meowed, obviously very upset and distraught.

Her gray fur flowed in the gentle breeze. Her big blue eyes slowly closed. She took a deep breath, and ran to the warriors den.

Fernstalk lay there, thinking about her life, her family, her hopes and dreams, the prophecy, and even Falconprowl. She was getting more used to him and Dreamkit.

Dreamkit.

Dreamkit, where are you?

"I'm right here, my sister."

Fernstalk smiled to the sound of her brother's voice. She turned around to see that it wasn't her fluffy little brother by the name of Dreamkit.

"Budstalk."

The Tom smiled. "I can't let you win, my little ki-"

He was cut off by Fernstalk's yowls. "You're not my father."

Budstalk lunged for his foster kit, but she dodged. She screeched and bit his scruff as hard as possible. She was thrown off and landed on the cold hard ground.

"Ow..."

Budstalk curled his lip, and unsheathed his claws. He swiped at Fernstalk's ear and raked his claws down her nose. Fernstalk grimaced in pain at first, and then retreated to yowling and begging.

"Please, Budstalk, you don't want to do this..."

Fernstalk got up, darkness swirling around her.

Budstalk frowned.

"You don't know me at all..."

"Falconprowl! Falconprowl, please help me!" Fernstalk yowled, not knowing what else to do and how to control the darkness and her corrupt body.

The brown Tom came running over to his daughter.

"I'm so sorry, Fernstalk. Please forgive me someday."

Fernstalk widened her eyes as she saw her own father, Falconprowl, stick a claw into her back! She cried out in pain, darkness flooding over her, and then she blacked out.
