Chapter 7: Pleasant Surprises Not So Pleasant

{Ferb}

I struggled to turn a bolt with my trusty wrench. After a few more turns, the bolt finally lets loose and I turned it clockwise.

I stood back and reveled in joy at the finally, finally, finished machine. It didn't take us two months like I had told Vanessa last night. Nothing I make takes me two months, especially not a simple machine as this.

"It's finished! And with this, we can take over the Tri-State Area!" Doofenshmirtz cackled.

I sighed. With a small lean, I reached over and slapped him.

His mouth popped and he rubbed his red cheek. "Oops, did I do it again? Hehe, old habits die hard."

I just roll my eyes. I've gotten used to this for the past months, having spent most of my time here. I enjoyed the company, almost as good as making those silly inventions with Phineas was.

I heard the all-too familiar crash that sounded on his patio. I turned a blind eye as Doofenshmirtz cried, "Perry the Platypus! You're here!"

I heard a trap catch around my pet platypus and I smiled as Doofenshmirtz rambled on about a separate machine he made. In the glass window, Perry's eye catches mine and he smirked. I send one back and continued to tinker with some tools, hiding my view from Perry.

As O.W.C.A policy, the host family can never find out about their O.W.C.A secret agent pet. How the organization hasn't been suspicious that I haven't found yet is anyone's guess.

Finally, I heard an explosion and Doofenshmirtz yelled, "Curse you, Perry the Platypus!"

I glanced back and I saw Perry salute to me before his hang glider glided him out of sight.

Doofenshmirtz stared at his blown up machine, dejectedly. He happened to look at our machine and his face lit up again.

"I still have this!" He exclaimed, clapping as he ran over.

I stopped him before he reached it.

He put his hands up in defense. "Ok, ok. For Vanessa, I know..."

He looked around at the other things I've been really building for the past two months. "So...these are also for Vanessa, I'm guessing? 'Cause if they're for me, I'm going to...politely decline. Is...is this a baby crib?" He shot me a glare.

I just stared down with a blush.

"What's up, Fletcher? I thought I finally made the list of people you talk to." He said.
"You did. I was just thinking about something Nessa said last night." I said.
"What'd she say?" He asked, eager for gossip especially about his daughter.
"She asked if I wanted to be a father." I said.
He glared. "You didn't do anything, did you, Fletcher?"
My eyes went wide. " Oh, n-no, Sir. I mean..."

I blushed as I suddenly remember something that happened a few months ago but he didn't need to know that.

He shot me the stink eye. "Better not." He muttered.
I ignored him. "Do you have a truck?"
"Pfft! Forget truck! I've got a hover board that helped me steal the Eiffel Tower! Did I ever tell you that?" He asked, excitedly leading me to a storage room.

I thought about Paris when I helped Vanessa reconcile with her dad after he put work before her, one too many times. I smiled as I thought of Phineas' crazy idea to travel around the world in one day on the Summer Solstice.

"Norm! Bring the machine here and also bring the hover board out, that dang thing!" He ordered his robot butler.
"Coming, Sir!" Norm rushed over and did as he was told. He was gentle when he handled my machine.

Doofenshmirtz grumbled and I smirked, knowing fully that Norm liked Vanessa and I better than his supposed father.

I hesitantly got on the hover board, not willing to take a chance on a machine I didn't make.

Norm had fastened my machine to the back and I was holding on, not only to keep it safe, but so I wouldn't fall off.

"I haven't done this in ten years so uh...you might want to hold on to that machine of yours." He warned as he flies the thing off the patio.

Now he tells me...

A few seconds later, I'm not thinking about how mad I should be at him for going so fast and not putting a seat belt on here, I'm just hoping I'll survive to return home even though home is where I'm going.

I squeezed my eyes shut, hoping not to die. Fortunately, we make it to the 'little' house that Vanessa and I share.

I hopped off the hover board, thanking some mysterious force that I was still alive and ran inside.

I found Vanessa watching t.v. and was oddly rubbing her stomach. Did she eat too much?

I shook that stupid thought from my head as I excitedly took her hand. "Come on."
She smiled, confused. "You're early."
"Just come outside." I urged, aware of a childish smile that even I was unfamiliar with.

I could tell she was dying to ask a million questions, and more, but didn't and just smiled at me, trusting me. She got up slowly. I was a little impatient but I waited, knowing that she wouldn't be happy, no matter the surprise, if I rushed her.

We walked outside and she stared at her dad in confusion who had covered the machine with a green cloth, just in time.

"Hey, sweetie!" He waved.
"Dad?" She asked.

I jogged towards him and rubbed my hands, eagerly.

"You ready, Nessa?" I asked.
She giggled, nervously. "Well, if we're putting surprises on the table, I'd like to say that I also have a surprise."
I tilted my head, puzzled, but didn't think anything of it. "Ok, Nessa, I'll listen to your surprise but would you like to see mine first?"
She laughed. "Seeing you acting like a child is a little refreshing so sure."

Doofenshmirtz took one piece of the cloth and I took the other. In a silent one, two, three, we whipped the cloth off and I stared at Vanessa with joy as she gasped, laughing all the way.

"Ferb, no!" Vanessa grinned.

The age-reverter ray of our childhood

The exact same one that brought us together

This was what the blueprints were for that I'd found buried under Phineas'. It was a surprise that I knew she'd get. Vanessa loved reminiscing the past so this was perfect.

"Wanna try it out?" I asked, handing Doofenshmirtz the remote control, a twinkle in my eye.
She giggled. "Depends what'll I get."
I laughed and grabbed her hands as I twirled her around. "Just think about it, Nessa! Going back to being thirteen! The best times of our lives! When it was just you, me, Izzy, and Phineas against the world, running around in our crazy and silly machines making the most of every day! Just think! When 'Carpe Diem' was all we wanted!"
She quirked her eyebrow and smirked. "You drive a hard bargain but..."
I rolled my eyes, smirking. "I'll be home every day now in time for our wonderful dinners."
She smiled. "Well, what are we waiting for? Carpe diem, Fletcher!"

I nodded to Doofenshmirtz, signaling for him to press the button.

When he pressed it, we watched in a amazement as the once familiar green and pink lights surround us, changing us before our very eyes, to our old bodies that we had long forgotten and yet, hadn't.

I opened my eyes when Vanessa's hands pulled away from me with such ferocity. Her eyes weren't excited at all, but scared.

"I forgot!" She screamed in panic.
"Forgot what?" I asked, my excitement long gone.
"The baby! Our baby, Ferbs! It might die!" She shouted.
"What?! A baby?!" Doofenshmirtz and I yelled.

For some reason, there was now a fierce wind whipping leaves, grass, and hair, covering my sight from her. The transformation was happening still as I tried to scream to her dad to shut it off.

He couldn't hear me. I couldn't see him or Vanessa anymore.

All I could do was stand, helplessly, as the noise roared in my ears and my body grew smaller to a world I had once missed but was now dreading.

Ahhhhhh I'm sorry but I wanted to make more cliffhangers

So any thoughts?

Will the ferbnessa baby die before it's even born?
