Chapter 33
Third person pov
"It was an accident." Was the first thing Kit said to him when Tenya stormed into Chad's hospital room, phone clenched in one hand and the collar of Izuku's shirt death-gripped in the other. Kit's red eyes flickered down to the freckled boy's limp form, brows raising at the distant expression on his face and the sling his arm was in. Tenya frowned, releasing Izuku unceremoniously onto the tile and advancing. Kit held his hands up in surrender, focus immediately back on his boyfriend. "They swung first! Ask Dabi! Or Rei!"
Kit didn't look hurt outwardly, but there was no telling what kinds of wounds he could be hiding under his clothes! He was wearing shorter-than-short shorts and Ingenium-brand knee socks to throw him off, but Tenya was determined not to be distracted. Even if Kit was batting his eyes and had his hair messed up in the most impeccable way possible. Tenya is not a man so easily swayed! He has to stay strong. It's not like anyone else is going to back him. Izuku's out of commission, laying on the ground in a state of relative unconsciousness, and Dabi's only purpose in life is to judge them and laugh at their misfortunes. Chad's here too, but... you know...
"I was gone for less than six hours." Tenya ignored, thrusting his phone so close to Kit's face the boy went cross eyed trying to look at it. It was admittedly quite cute, but he's supposed to be mad. He is mad. Well-- maybe it's more frustration and stress than anything else. Can you even blame Tenya at this point? How had this even happened?! "Six hours, and suddenly you're a publicly-recognized vigilante! Kit!"
"I'm sorry!" Kit whined back under Tenya's indignant stare and scolding tone. His Cheshire-worthy grin gave him away. Tenya brought his hands up to his face with a defeated groan as Kit burst into a fit of moderately unhinged snickering, further proof of how unapologetic he actually was. Tenya wasn't sure what he'd been expecting, really. Perhaps the faintest sliver of regret? He'd been thinking too big. Kit didn't have the capacity to feel shame. "We were just trying to get information on Denise. We didn't ask those fuckers to attack us. I swear it."
Tenya let his hands drop, doubtful. Yeah. Likely story. He loved Kit, yes, but he was absolutely lying right now. How was Tenya supposed to peacefully go to UA knowing he was leaving Kit to his own devices for so long?! There was no telling what he'd get into if Tenya wasn't there. This was only the first day he'd been away, and it hadn't even been a full school day's worth of time! Tenya shivered thinking of how Kit would act once he got acclimated to Tenya not being around to scold him.
"You literally told them to come at us, you little shit. And you also told them we were vigilantes and asked them to name you, since you had to ideas." Dabi drawled from his spot perched in the corner, verifying Tenya's suspicions. He had a Suzuko magazine in his hands and was leisurely flipping through, not bothering to look up. If he had, he'd have only been pinned by Kit's betrayed glare anyway. "I guess my mom did throw out the first move up, though. So you have that going for you."
Kit's irritation towards the scarred man flowed off his face and he turned to Tenya with a beaming grin, as though goading them weren't just as bad as attacking was. Tenya slumped in defeat, a heaving sigh escaping him as Kit reached forward grabbed him by the arm, dragging him down onto the small couch next to him. Tenya allowed himself to bonelessly collapse, the exhaustion from the exams helping to drag him down. Kit was immediately forcing himself further into his side, legs thrown over his thighs and arms wrapped around his middle. Tenya felt himself grow warm, his cheeks reddening. He cleared his throat in an embarrassed manner. At least Izuku wasn't awake to laugh and gag at them.
Kit hummed, propping his chin up on his boyfriend's bicep and peering up at his face. He looked downright exhausted. Kit had no fucking clue if Izuku was even still breathing. Where had the whole broken arm thing come from, anyway? Tenya had texted saying they'd be late and that Recovery Girl had to do a few rounds of healing on the freckled menace, but how bad had it been originally that she wasn't able to knock it all out in one go? Once again, Kit had no fucking clue. He guessed it didn't matter. No fucking way they didn't pass.
"How was the exam? I bet you aced that shit." Kit's tone was low, but Tenya still perked up pridefully nonetheless. Kit bit back a massive grin as he preened, shoving his glasses further up his face. Ugh, he's so gay. This is so gay. He can feel Dabi's judgement radiating from the corner, but at least he doesn't have a crush on a guy who's in a coma. Fucking dumbass.
"I believe I'll have no issues entering the hero course." Tenya smiled, seeming positively delighted. Kit beamed at him, leaning up to plant a wet kiss on his cheek. Wow, Tenya had come so far. He wasn't even collapsing into a flustered blob anymore. Kit was so proud! "Though, something odd did happen. Izuku used a quirk. I'm not sure where he would've gotten it, or why he would've hidden it..."
Kit paused, blinking. A quirk? Izuku Midoriya, quirkless for as long as Kit has known him, used a quirk? That was... fucking metal, dude. But Tenya was right, there was no way the freckled boy would've hidden it. Implying that he... had probably mentioned it at some point, and they had definitely ignored him in favor of being gay. When was it? What were the details again? Kit definitely recalled this. For sure, this shit had happened. And by the way Tenya was blinking right now, he did too. It was like watching an obscure trivia show and knowing you know the answer but being unable to quite scrounge it up.
Tenya racked his brain. He probably should've been more shocked about the quirk thing, but Kit wasn't, so he didn't see the point. Izuku had definitely told them about this at some point. Right? Yes... Yes, certainly Tenya could remember him mentioning something about getting a quirk one night. He and Kit had been cuddling and exhausted, and Izuku had been hyperventilating and crying. Kit had told him to calm down, shut the fuck up, and go back to sleep before promptly rolling back onto Tenya's chest and passing back out. Tenya had wrapped his arms around his boyfriend and followed in suit, but what Izuku had said was along the lines of--
"Holy shit!" Kit gasped, whirling around to stare wide-eyed at Izuku's prone form. "All Might gave you his fucking quirk?!"
Needless to say, Dabi accidentally set his magazine on fire.

Hawks is a simple guy. He works to pay his brother's medical bills, eats fried chicken, and day dreams about all the things he and Chad will do once he finally wakes up. That third one is a bit of a new addition to his usual routine, actually. He'd honestly lost hope he'd ever get to talk to Chad again, but after the stint with the music and the singing and the subsequent brain activity-- how could he not hope? It was the only sign of life he'd seen from his brother since the incident.
It was a little sickening to think he used to be a fan of Endeavor, the very man who had caused all this. The mere thought alone had his teeth grinding, his hands curling into fists, his feathers ruffling with irritation. To think Hawks'd ever been so blinded. Endeavor's sins ran deeper than just what he'd done to Chad. They expanded out like a poisonous web, the burning flames reaching villains, civilians, and even the man's own family alike. It was downright disgusting to see someone so vile in such a place of power. Surely the Hero Commission had to know on some level what he was like. They had to be aware of all the covering up he'd been doing.
It wasn't worth getting upset over, Hawks supposed. He'd run himself in circles and straight into the ground if he wasn't careful. Besides, he had a small platoon of teenagers who had taken on the issue and were tackling it in a scarily efficient manner. A public execution that was unavoidable and that Endeavor wouldn't be able to weasel out of. Kittrick Suzuko was an absolutely terrifying little tyrant who had been building up his magazine's fame and garnering more attention for the sole purpose of creating a bigger boom whenever the Chad Project dropped. Just overviewing the entire scheme made Hawks' heart beat a little faster.
It was genius. Eccentric. The scale of it was something Hawks never thought he'd be a part of. How many people had they interviewed and reached out to? How many incidents had they dug up and gotten concrete evidence to back? How many photographs of those who sustained irreversible handicap from Endeavor's missteps had they taken? It was a tornado that continued to wind up in scale, fed more and more debris to make it even more volatile. Kit, Tenya, and Izuku were going to take Endeavor down. Not because he had personally wronged any of them, but because he was a piece of shit and they had decided that if no one else was going to do it, they may as well.
That being said, he never thought in a million years that he'd come into Chad's hospital room to find Endeavor's wife seated by the bed. Ex-wife? Either way, Rei Todoroki was hiding out as Rei Suzuko for the time being, her hair dyed brown and her clothes made to be as inconspicuous as possible. The most shocking part of all of this hadn't been her, but instead the revelation that Dabi was also a member of the Todoroki family. Endeavor had to be truly bad if even his own child hated him that much.
Still, Hawks didn't see how such a douchebag could possibly come from a woman as soft as Rei was. Looking between them, mother and son was the last thing to come to his mind. He guessed that wasn't his business. It's not like he really resembled his mother or father either. That was probably because of Chad though-- who had stepped up to raise and take care of him despite being only a little older.
"Ah, Hawks." Rei gave him a small smile. He hadn't had much interaction with her at all, but he knew she was in charge of managing the company's social media and was doing her best to help out. He offered a grin back, but he couldn't manage to make it reach his eyes as his gaze drifted over to his comatose brother. What would their lives be like if Chad had never fallen into coma? Where would his older brother be right now? "I didn't mean to intrude."
"Oh, no! I'm sure he enjoys the company." Hawks blurted out before he could stop himself, his cheeks flushing slightly with embarrassment at his own hasty reply. Dabi was nowhere to be seen, but Hawks assumed he was probably lurking around somewhere if Rei was here. He was sort of glad that idiot was out for the moment. If he were, Hawks would be getting mocked hard. "How uh... How have you been doing?"
Rei smiled again. How did she manage to look so warm after all she'd gone through? She seemed content, sitting there besides Chad's bed. She'd looked a bit morose and regretful when he came in. Was she feeling guilty for something she hadn't done? Hawks hoped not. Rei Todoroki had been through enough in life, and so had her children as far as Hawks was concerned. Dabi too, even if he was a trick ass bitch.
"I'm a vigilante now." Rei announced unexpectedly. Hawks blinked at her in surprise. "Do you know what I chose as my name?"
"What?" Hawks asked, a little eager. A vigilante? Rei? How had this happened? It must've been earlier, when she'd gone out with Kit. That would track.
"Endeavor." Rei smiled. Hawks froze for a moment, taking in her self-satisfied expression. Hawks couldn't help but grin back, and this time, he can safely say it reached his eyes.
Though, nothing compared to the smile that overtook his face when Dabi came back with food to find that Hawks had somehow managed to befriend his mother in his short absence. Of all the moments he's had in the past few months, he thinks that dickhead's mortified expression may be one of the top highlights. And by the glint in Rei's eyes, Hawks thinks maybe that was partially her intention to begin with.

Kit kicked Izuku awake and they demanded answers. The freckled teen was horrified that they'd told Dabi of all people, but the scarred man had been more offended by the assumption that he'd tattle than anything else. Just for that, Dabi had turned and told Tensei too when he'd walked in after his patrol. Izuku's indignant shriek and shout of 'I'm not supposed to tell anyone!' had sent Kit devolving into irritating laughter that only made Izuku even more upset. Something about not getting any points and then breaking his bones and-- yeah, it was a whole sob story, really. Sucked to be him.
"You can just come be vigilantes with us." Kit reassured the green haired boy idly, ducking when Tenya's hand swung to smack at his head. They were on the way to meet with Natsuo Todoroki, Izuku trailing in a haze behind them. He kept stumbling every few steps and seemed like he may pass out at some point. Definitely super concerning but until he actually fell over, they were going to ignore the issue. He needed to get out a little anyway. Take his mind off the exam and the potential results. "What! It's not like you'll turn our asses in."
"That doesn't mean it's not reckless, dangerous, and illegal." Tenya stressed. As if he'd ever rat Kit out. Kit and his other loved ones were his morally grey area and he didn't plan on changing that anytime soon. Not that this fact mattered right now. Kit was going to get himself hurt! As capable as he was, the risk was just too high. What was going to happen when he got shot, or someone with an overpowering quirk got the jump on him? He felt antsy all over just thinking about it. He knew he was being a bit pushy, but this was a topic worth being pushy over if you asked him! "What's going to happen when you go out there alone and then don't come back?"
Kit hummed a bit, swinging their joined hands back and forth thoughtfully as though he were actually considering it. Yeah, Tenya knew a lot better than that. There was absolutely no goddamn way Kit was going to listen to a single word he'd just said. The brunette would probably do his best to see it from Tenya's view at least up to a point, but Kit was just... Kit. He did things his way and getting into unnecessary fights was a part of that. Tenya was just going to have to accept the reality that he'd be having heart attack after heart attack for many years to come if he was going to be with Kit. Which he was, by the way. Tenya is too head over heels obsessed to even consider being apart from Kit. Which was precisely why high school was going to be so hard.
Kit smothered a smile as Tenya seemed to slump, seeming to realize just what a losing battle he was trying to fight. It's not that Kit was trying to worry him. Those shits in the alley had swung first and had gotten the shit beat out of them for it. They deserved it, through and through. Kit had really only been there to ask about Denise. They're the one's who had decided it was a confrontation worthy of a fight. Besides, the entire thing was comedic goddamn gold. Rei choosing 'Endeavor' as her vigilante alias? Best thing to ever come of one of his back-alley escapades.
"...Hm, well try not to worry your ass off. It's not like I'm going to go out trying to save people just because they gave me a name." Kit hummed after a moment, waving his free hand absentmindedly. Tenya looked a bit relieved to hear his words of reassurance, standing up a bit straighter as they walked. "Besides, we've got bigger fish to fry, babe. What the fuck are we going to tell Natsuo Todoroki when he asks where his mom is?"
Tenya opened his mouth to say something, paused, and then blanched immediately. Kit pressed his lips together, taking a deep breath as his boyfriend's gaze settled on something behind him. Just his fucking luck. He already knows what's about to happen, and no, it isn't that Izuku is going to finally give in and fall face first in the dirt. If only that were the only thing they had to worry about. Taking a deep breath, Kit plastered a bright smile on his face and turned.
Yeah, there the fuck he was. Natsuo Todoroki was standing there with slack shoulders, staring at Kit with clear surprise on his face. There were bags under his eyes that made the brunette wince a little. Yeah, that was definitely his bad there. He should've said something. Let him know that they were going to stage a breakout via Denise. Who they still hadn't found. Trying to find Denise would truly be his undoing, honestly. There were no traces. Not a single fucking one. It was driving him nuts. He's good at everything, but apparently not this. Nags on his goddamn nerves.
"You... Y-You know where my mom is?" Natsuo asked in a small voice that made Kit feel a sliver of remorse for once in his life. Tenya looked like he was about to buckle under the guilt, expression twisting. Kit gave his boyfriend's hand a squeeze.
"Your older brother Touya, too." Izuku's voice rang out like a goddamn train whistle in the middle of the night, ruining everything as per usual. Kit and Tenya whirled on him, eyes wide and offended. Izuku narrowed his eyes at their indigitation, as though questioning the audacity. "What? You told my secret."
Kit and Tenya shared a look as Natsuo's eyes all but bugged out. Dammit. Izuku was such a petty bitch and now they were too far in. Kit had been planning to tell Natsuo the bear minimum because honestly, what if he spilled? It would've been safer for all parties if they'd gone that route. So much for that. Broccoli headed bitch ass snitch. Kit was going to have to shoot Dabi a text and warn him. If they were lucky, the scarred man would set Izuku on fire and they'd be done with it.
Natsuo looked like he'd just had the floor ripped out from underneath him. Tenya and Kit scooted closer to each other, feeling a bit deer in headlights. Kit didn't do the whole 'comforting other people' thing unless it was Tenya in need of comforting, ooo la la, and Tenya was still emotionally uptight with others he didn't know well. Kit was steadily warming him up to their steamy romance, but Natsuo was somewhat of a stranger. Tenya's naturally uptight personality meant he was less than suited for this situation. Damn. Well, Izuku had gotten them into this mess...
"Fuck it. We're going on a date. You dug this hole so lie in it, you little shit." Kit decided. Izuku's expression dropped like a stone in a pond. He flipped him off, shooting a business smile at Natsuo, whose world was crumbling right before his very eyes. "Izuku will be happy to explain! Call us if you need anything!"
Tenya was still too busy short-circuiting to say no, and Natsuo was too far in his shock. Izuku watched them book it, betrayed as Kit dragged Tenya through the bushes so they could get away faster. Kit flipped him off again for good measure as he went. He and Tenya hadn't been on a date in a while anyway, so this was a great chance! A little outing to celebrate him getting into UA. Maybe they could even get a few things done. Kit had been meaning to call Present Mic back for a while now, after all.
