Chapter 26
Third person pov
Izuku wasn't sure what to think when he received a message from the one and only Yagi Toshinori. He felt a mix of emotions that were hard to pick apart. The biggest one of all was excitement, but apprehension was a close second. It was out of the blue. The blonde man had no reason to try and contact them again. In fact, it would make an amazing amount of sense if Yagi-san made an active effort to never talk to anyone from Suzuko Corporations again. With the massive secret he held, talking to reporters in his smaller form had to be nerve-wracking. The fear that his identity would be revealed somehow was no doubt a heart-stopping feeling.
Yagi Toshinori had asked to meet up with him and just him. Incredibly suspicious and concerning. Tenya had been completely against it. They'd told him about their theory about him being All Might and informed him to keep it under wraps. He had taken it more seriously than Kit and Izuku combined. It was actually sort of comical. He'd straightened like a military soldier and had seemed moments away from saluting. Kit had taken pictures because he thought it was cute. Tenya had tried to get him to delete them by picking the smaller boy up but it was too late. They'd already been sent out to three separate emails. Stored on them like horcruxes or something.
Back to Yagi, though. He had requested to meet at a beach nearby. It was one that was rather secluded and known to be a total dump, which was... weird. It sort of made sense. It was certainly private, but he'd been so vague in his email as to reasoning. Why did he want to meet up? He said it was to talk, but what about? Why such a shady location? No matter how Izuku looked at it, it didn't make any sense. It would be more plausible if he were asking to speak with Kit. Izuku was just an author for the magazine-- someone who didn't have any desire to really put himself out there and in the spotlight. Toshinori's sudden interest in him had peaked the suspicion of himself and his friends.
Despite Tenya's attentiveness to keeping the secret of Yagi's identity, he had been completely against Izuku going to meet Toshinori on his own. They didn't have solid proof he was the number one hero no matter how sure of it they were. With what limited information they had on Yagi-san, Tenya didn't think it was a good idea for any of them to be going by themselves to see him. Absolutely reasonable. Kit had disagreed only somewhat. He thought Izuku should go, but he insisted the boy bring some form of protection with him. This had made Tenya pale a considerable amount, and Kit had looked at Tensei until the man raised an eyebrow and stepped out of the room.
That's how Izuku found himself in this situation. Standing in the middle of a beach-turned-landfill, sweating and with a gun tucked in his waistband. As in, an actual firearm. In his waistband. A gun. With bullets. That could shoot people. And kill them. Where had Kit even gotten this thing?! He'd just pulled it out from underneath Chad's hospital bed and tossed it at him like it was a TV remote and not an incredibly dangerous weapon. Tenya's shriek had been ungodly. Izuku was genuinely surprised the volume of it alone hadn't been enough to wake Chad from his coma. Tensei just stood outside and pretended not to know what was going on so he could have plausible deniability if something happened.
So yes, now he had a gun. He knew how to shoot one. What idiot wouldn't know the basic mechanics of a pistol? He hadn't ever used one before was all, and he really hoped he wouldn't have to. He was so going to get arrested. He was in middle school! It wasn't legal. Of course, neither were half of he and Kit did these days, but this was a whole other ballpark! The things they did were cover-up-able! This was... he... fuck. He should've taken Tenya's advice and said no. That would've been great. That would've been super duper smart-- very intellectual.
"Ah, young Midoriya!" Toshinori's deep voice boomed before the freckled boy could turn around and make a break for it. Izuku jumped, spinning around with wide eyes. The skinny man gave a weak grin, waving as he approached rather awkwardly. Izuku swallowed heavily. This was fine. He totally didn't feel like passing out right now. Not even a little bit. Super amazing. Stunning, honestly. This was going so well. "Thank you for agreeing to meet me on such short notice. I know it must've been quite the shock."
Understatement of the year, really. Of course, Toshinori presumably didn't know that they were onto his secret. His hidden identity was what really made his request such a surprise. If he were an average man and truly just the secretary to All Might, then Izuku honestly wouldn't have so much as blinked at his wish to meet up again. It was common that the individuals they interviewed would reach out to them again once they thought over things a little more. They'd give information they'd left out before after allowing their nerves to fade out a bit. But this was such a delicate situation...
"R-Right! It's no problem." Izuku laughed a little, rubbing the back of his neck. What if All Might figured out he had a gun? Would he get socked in the face so hard he saw next week? Or maybe his skull would just cave in. The green-eyed boy supposed that was better than living with the embarrassment of bringing a firearm to a meeting with the number one pro hero. Kit was probably laughing right now, wherever he was. Definitely harassing Tenya or something along those lines. He should've dropped the gun near the entrance of the beach and then gotten it once he was sure All Might was gone.
Toshinori observed the fidgeting boy. He truly didn't look like much. Though clearly nervous, he still had some amount of confidence lined in his shoulders it seemed. He was glad for that. He didn't want to scare Young Midoriya! Asking him to come alone to such an unpopulated area was entirely suspicious. So suspicious, in fact, that Yagi was surprised he'd agreed so readily. His email had been earnest and reassured Toshinori that he'd be there at the set time the blonde had chosen. It filled Toshinori with enough confidence to whisk away most of his worries. He wanted this boy to be his successor. He was sure of it! Sir Nighteye would be upset-- he'd been contacting Yagi for some time about an intern of his that would be greatly suited for One For All-- but Toshinori couldn't deny that Izuku seemed right. Giving it to him most certainly seemed like the proper choice!
"I'm sure you're wondering why I've brought you here, Young Midoriya. I feel I should cut right to the chase." Toshinori started earnestly. The boy looked up at him with big eyes. Poor kid was absolutely sweating buckets. Toshinori didn't think he was all that intimidating in this form, but perhaps he'd been wrong in that assumption. "I've been reading some of your work and I've found it to be rather inspiring. You said you're quirkless... correct?"
That was it. Izuku was going to shrivel up and die on the spot. His idol had been reading up on him?! All Might had been researching him and his work? That was... absolutely horrifying. He'd never been more mortified in his entire life, really. Forget the gun tucked in his waistband. This was a whole new level of 'fuck, I wish I could kick the can'. He was going to simply pass away. Cry until he became so dehydrated he could barely move. Let the beach's trash surround and bury him alive. Swallow him until his body vanished, never to be found again. That would be nice.
"Y-Yes, sir. I am." Izuku swallowed. Was he about get hate-crimed?
"And you want to be a hero?" Toshinori prodded, looking hopeful. The skinny man took a step closer.
"More than anything." Izuku agreed, nodding with a sureness he only possessed when his utmost passions were brought up. Determination lit up in him. These were all great questions. Truly, Izuku had to applaud him. But why was he asking? It didn't make any sense.
Toshinori could see the calculations flying through the kid's head at the speed of light. He tried to push down his elation. There was still a slim chance this wouldn't work out. He doubted that would be the case. He could feel it in his bones that this kid was supposed to be his successor. He was a man who didn't handle the secret of his quirk lightly. To be willing to tell a boy he'd met only once was a huge deal. He didn't feel scared, however. Izuku Midoriya seemed like an honest young man who would do his best to be a hero no matter what-- quirk or no quirk.
"Well, then I've got some good news for you, my boy!" Toshinori spoke. And then suddenly, he wasn't a sickly stick-looking man anymore. His body was surrounded in a puff of white smoke that made Izuku squint and resist the urge to cough. The green-haired boy watched it as it cleared, staring blankly at the massive form that was All Might. He towered over him, fists planted heroically on his hips and chest puffed out with pride. He gave a booming laugh, grinning in a larger-than-life sort of a way. "I believe I can help you with that!"
Izuku continued to stare. He'd been pretty convinced this guy was was All Might, sure. Knowing it and seeing it were two different things, however. What did he do? What the fuck was even happening? He should've listened to Tenya and said no. Just stayed back. Maybe brought someone with him so they could do the talking. Even having Denise as moral support would've been better than... well, than this. Whatever this was. What did he say? Wait, had All Might just offered to help him become a hero? Izuku was pretty sure that had just happened. Like, just now. Wait, when had he started shaking so hard? Was this was a heart attack felt like? Maybe he was finally having a psychotic break.
There was a dull plop that drew their attention. All Might and Izuku both looked down, staring at the gun that had just slipped out of Izuku's waistband and onto the sand. It had been dislodged by his violent trembling, now lying there starkly against the pale sand between them. Izuku opened his mouth to say something before he closed it again. All Might blinked, his grin frozen on his face. For a moment they just looked at it, neither of them able to muster up any words in light of this new development. Izuku finally managed to clear his throat after some thirty seconds of rapidly ascending to the ninth plane of existence where he would be burned alive.
"Uh." Izuku sputtered out. He kicked some sand over the gun, clearing his throat. "S-So you're All Might! C-Cool! What's uh... What's that like?"
All Might rose an eyebrow. Izuku wondered if Kit would be willing to strangle him alive with one of his feather boas if he asked.

The amount of magazine sales somehow managed to skyrocket even more after the interview. As though business hadn't been booming before, the public became obsessed with Kittrick Suzuko and his eccentric attitude. Kat watched Tenya all but collapse in relief at the positive response. He'd been so blunt on screen he was afraid the public would find it disrespectful, but to them it appeared to be charming. They were enamored with him and his unusual, brave view on everyday issues. A complete win in Kit's mind. He was glad it had worked out.
"I can't believe you gave him a gun!" Tenya hissed at him. They were walking down the street hand-in-hand somewhat near Dagobah beach. They had both given their word not to come and try listening in, but that didn't mean they couldn't stay in the area. Besides, there was a Boba shop over here that was unmatched. "You know that's quite illegal. If he were to be found out-"
"Hakuna those tatas, babe. He's going to be fine. Who wouldn't bring a weapon to a meeting with a creepy old anorexic man?" Kit said, raising his Boba slightly. He was in a disguise today-- an Ingenium beanie pulled over his head and a pair of massive hot pink sunglasses stuck on his face. He was also wearing swim trunks and a hoodie. Not a great combination, but Tenya had learned not to try talking him out of his weird outfits.
Kit had a point. Tenya bit the inside of his cheek, squeezing his boyfriend's hand in thought. He was just worried for Izuku was all. The boy was a genius and had gotten a lot stronger, but he was still too kind for his own good. He wouldn't say he was naive. Izuku knew better than anyone just how nasty the world could get. Even though he was given a gun, would he really use it? Wait, that was a good thing if he didn't. What was Tenya even thinking? Kit was starting to negatively influence him. He knew it. He knew it was only a matter of time before the effects started to really show, but still.
"You just had a thought, didn't you." Kit accused. Tenya's cheeks went red, eliciting a raunchy laugh from the shorter of the pair. "I fucking knew it! You're being corrupted. I knew you wouldn't stay a goody-two-shoes for long"!
Tenya swatted at his boyfriend as he popped up to wrap his arms around his neck and pull him down, his nose scrunching up as Kit slapped a sloppy kiss on his cheek. He wasn't going to admit it, but he quite enjoyed it. He felt a lot more at ease with these sorts of things these days. It felt natural. A new normal that he was finding quite enjoyable if you asked him. Kit seemed to be getting bolder in public, however. Tenya wasn't sure how to feel about that. Maybe he could just stare at him until he behaved himself. That worked sometimes. Tenya's death stare was nothing to scoff at.
"Hey, you!" A voice called. Kit and Tenya both turned around, Kit still hanging off of Tenya awkwardly. A white haired kid in sunglasses and a mask was speed walking towards them with a massive purple binder under his arm. He waved his other hand frantically, nodding in an exuberant manner. "You're Kittrick Suzuko, right?! I'm Natsuo Todoroki! I talked to one of your employees through email?"
Kit's sunglasses slid down the bridge of his nose as he exchanged a wide eyed look with Tenya, who was still bent down weirdly due to the added weight of Kit. The shorter boy cleared his throat, allowing himself to slip down. Where had his shoes gone? He swore they'd been there a second ago. Those were one of his favorite pairs, too. Oh well. They'd somehow show up again. They always did, even if it sometime took years. He'd stumbled across some from elementary school in Mitsuki's house sitting under a couch. Not sure how that happened, but it was whatever.
"Yes! I believe you agreed to an interview?" Tenya took initiative as Kit straightened himself, pulling his sunglasses off and dusting the imaginary dirt from his hoodie. He must've looked pretty fucking weird in this outfit, but it was okay. Tenya's tan khaki shorts and striped polo were average enough to balance it out. The square glasses, too. Kit wondered how he managed to look so damn put together yet so hot at the same time. Absolutely astounding. He was stunned beyond measure.
"Y-Yeah! I mean-- are you guys free now? A time was never decided, but I just saw you guys walking and thought..." Natsuo trailed off, pulling his mask down so that his voice was less muffled. Kit felt a grin stretch across his face. He tugged the beanie off his head, handing it to Tenya who took it readily and stuck it inside one of his massive pockets. Natsuo pulled his sunglasses off, looking rather hopeful.
Natsuo Todoroki was going to be invaluable against Endeavor. The fact he was even relatively willing to come out here and help them out was astonishing. He'd clearly hunted them down with no small amount of eagerness. Though he was quite obviously nervous to be going against his father, he seemed truthful about his intentions. It was clear to Kit that he wanted his father gone. Even Tenya seemed to notice, albeit solemnly, that this was the case. This was just more proof that Endeavor was an awful hero. A total bastard that needed to be taken down several pegs and thrown in jail.
Without Izuku here, it didn't feel right to interview him just yet. Izuku had gotten horribly close to this case. They were all invested in the Chad case. Even Tensei was adamant on receiving updates and keeping up with progress, and he honestly stayed out of the magazine's business as much as possible. Not because he had anything against it, but because he didn't want to infringe on the way they did things. Not to mention he was busy as a full time hero. Things had been peaceful the past few weeks, but there'd be a spike of crime in no time that would have him working from sunrise to sunset for the span of a week or two.
"Our colleague is currently busy in the area with another... interviewee. But if you'd like to come sit and chat with us, I'm sure we can get to know each other a bit more before we get into to dog shit parts of our conversation. He shouldn't be too much longer." Kit cheerfully clapped his hands together. Tenya gave him a stink-eye for his language, but Natsuo just laughed.
"I'm totally down." Natsuo hugged his binder to his chest like it was a shield. He took a deep breath, seeming to think for a moment before making a suggestion, "There's a park nearby?"
Kit took Tenya's hand again. This day had just gotten a lot, lot more interesting.
