Chapter 23

Third person pov

They kept gathering information on the hero commission. Tensei was a big help, and he and Dabi became fast friends when they both realized they had a mutual dislike for Endeavor despite the flame-hero being, in general, widely accepted by the public. He had a legal team the size of Texas and enough money to make most issues disappear. But the Suzuko company was gaining more traction issue by issue. They were hitting the topics people wanted and needed to hear about hard. They'd recently hired a team that would be translating each release into English to be distributed further in America as well, and they'd opened a secondary website in the language as well.

They were booming. People didn't realize just how hard they were gearing up. The Chad Project was under tight wraps. They'd told none of their editing team or other various employees about its existence. They couldn't risk a leak this early in the game. They were careful with who they interviewed, choosing only the people who wanted Endeavor to fall the most. The ones who wouldn't risk ruining it by slipping up. They talked to mothers and to fathers who'd lost their kids. To families left misplaced without a place to go, and to mourning siblings just like Hawks who's watched their brothers and sisters die because of Endeavor's brash quirk misuse.

He'd impacted a lot more than any of them had realized. Dabi had been stunned by the overflow Izuku's anonymous Reddit Post had gathered. Some people just knew people who'd been effected, but a lot who'd responded to the chain had been victims themselves. And if not, plenty of people were willing to link articles they'd seen or find ones on incidents that had happened near them. It had taken Dabi a moment to process the mass amount of feedback, but eventually he was scrolling through with diligent eyes and a grim expression, picking out only certain people or Izuku to reach out to.

They had just finished up a series of interviews that didn't relate to their ever-growing project. This week they were focusing on talking to parents who were raising or had raised kids with difficult, dangerous, and peculiar quirks. They were getting tips, stories, methods of coping, and had even gotten a few organizations that sought to help the parents of powerfully-quirked children to partner up with them and offer forth several resources and how to access them for them to put in this week's issue. They were hoping it would benefit families that were struggling to wrangle their out of control children, and hopefully make household environments safer all across Japan.

They'd even brought Mitsuki and Masaru in to be interviewed, which had almost caused Tenya to short-circuit. He hadn't been properly introduced to either of them. Last Mitsuki had seen Tenya was outside the police station when the tall boy was making out with her nephew, which she luckily seemed to find extremely amusing rather than volatile. She reminded him a lot of Kit, with a brash attitude, sharp tongue, and an arsenal of foul language that would make most people cringe. The Iida teen was too acclimated to it to really bat an eye.

Mitsuki decidedly adored Tenya Iida and his brother, Tensei. She had given them one look and decided to say fuck all and offer forth her fashion services. She and Masaru weren't as immersed in the fashion industry as they used to be, but they were willing to jump feet first back in to help out with what they could. Mitsuki was a prior model and by extension, knew a lot about clothing. Masaru was a photographer with a sharp eye who knew a lot about putting together sets for photo shoots, and was more than willing to help out. Especially since Kit was buying all the groceries before anyone could stop him and was trying to weasel his way into paying the bills, too.

"I can help out some, too." Dabi had also grumbled just hours before, watching from a shadowy corner of their office space as people filtered in and out for interviews. He flexed his fingers, blue flames flitting across the back of his hand. He'd grown up with a forceful quirk, that's for sure. It was clear to see where that had got him. "As long as it's anonymous. I grew up with a pretty powerful quirk, obviously. I have a few things I wish were done... differently."

His interview had proved to be very useful. He was the only one with a powerful and truly threatening quirk they'd gotten a chance to interview, and he had plenty of suggestions and things to comment on. He explained some of the pitfalls he'd gone through and touched base on where his parents had failed him, and also where they hadn't, all without giving too much of his past away. Unfortunately, there still seemed to be more error in his story, but there were some productive moments that helped further their list of tips for parents who could be raising children just like Dabi. Ones with absolutely no control over what they were doing who were a danger to not only others without meaning to be, but to themselves as well.

The issue was thrown together efficiently. They were all studying for midterms, and Kit had really been putting Izuku on the grind. The brunette worked out with him every step of the way, so he was also starting to gain a little more bulk than usual. It was almost comforting to Tenya to watch his boyfriend get stronger. He knew well and good that Kit could defend himself just fine, but watching his strength grow was reassuring. Like insurance that he wasn't just going to beat up anyone who messed with him. He was going to fucking destroy them. Kick their ass seven ways to Sunday.

"I know our next topic and who to contact." Izuku announced almost giddily. They were all set up in Tenya's room. They had a professional space in Suzuko's offices, but they always seemed to find themselves back at the Iida household anyway. Tensei was sitting in with them today, watching Tenya edit photos of him and everyone else on Team Idaten. Tensei was becoming a fan favorite, and had recently jumped severely in the hero rankings due to the publicity the magazine brought. The look on his face when he hopped from the low hundreds right into the top fifty had been extremely amusing.

"What's it on?" Kit didn't look away from his phone. He handled what went in and out, organized the interviews, acted as the face of the company, and dealt with everything financial. He also was the one building the law team they were going to need the moment The Chad Project dropped. It was a struggle to find people who you knew couldn't be bought out. Not only that, but he was revamping all the benefits their employees got. They didn't have many, but their team worked extremely hard and deserved only the best. Kit was never one to do things in halves. He was a go big, go home type of guy.

Tenya reached over and patted his boyfriend's back with a large hand, trying to convey his reassurance. It was clear as day that the brunette was stressed. Who wouldn't be with the workload on his shoulders? Tenya and Izuku got the easy stuff. They wrote articles and edited photos, which wasn't as hard as it sounded; especially when you had a knack for it. Kit had a lot of weight on his shoulders and was doing all the shitty stuff that you got almost no enjoyment out of whatsoever. He seemed to like it okay, but it was still a lot. He knew more about business than anyone would've first assumed.

"The faces behind the functioning of hero agencies." Izuku looked up, eyes shining. Next to him, Denise shifted slightly. He really wasn't much of a talker. Inko was attached to the thing though, so Izuku had somewhat bonded with it too. "We see the heroes, but what about the people who keep the actual agencies going? The secretaries, assistants, researchers-- all of them. I was reading up on it and I think it would go good with the segment we're doing on the police force next week."

"That sounds promising. We have a lot of people that help us function, like EMTs, support gear techs, PR officials." Tensei listed off. "And my agency isn't all that big, but I can definitely get you some interviews. I'm sure Hawks would be happy to give insight into the inner workings of a bigger office, like his."

"That would be quite informative. I'm sure it would open a lot of doors for those who wish to work with heroes but either don't want to be one themselves or don't have a quirk suited to it." Tenya made a few chopping motions with his hand. He'd learned fast that it didn't matter what your quirk was. Anyone could be a hero, and his boyfriend was living proof of that. But not everyone had the same determination as Izuku and the same vigor as Kit. And that was okay! There were other doors for them to walk through.

"Do that shit." Kit flicked his pen, and Izuku beamed. Kit had never stopped him doing from anything before, but the freckled boy still got starry-eyed with excitement whenever given the go-ahead to do something he really wanted to do. Kit's fingers flew across his phone screen. He didn't know how he felt about a live interview, but this was a big news station, credited with only giving interviews to those who really deserved it. The reporters were genuinely nice. If Kit was ever going to do any sort of interview, it would be with them.  "I have a feeling you have someone in particular you want to hunt down."

"Yes!" Izuku blurted out. Tenya and Tensei shared amused glances. "I've known about this guy for a while, but I wasn't sure if we should pursue it! But now I really thing it's worth a shot. It's All Might's private assistant! Toshinori Yagi!"

Kit stopped typing, looking up quickly and with a sharp grin. Izuku grinned back, looking even more exuberant than before.

"Toshinori Yagi..." Kit trailed off, grin widening. "Where can we find him?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Izuku set to work tracking down Toshinori. And by that, Kit meant stalking to try and learn his schedule so they could catch him. He didn't ever make public appearances, spotted only a few times going into All Might's tower. There were several reddit and tumblr threads dedicated solely to him and trying to figure out what he did, where he lived, and who he was in general. Izuku had always had a curiosity about the man, but had never had a real reason to truly dig into it until now. This presented the perfect opportunity to put his fanboy skills to use.
While Izuku holed up in his bedroom with only Denise and his laptop for company, Kit and Tenya seized the moment. Alone time between the two of them had been few and far between these past few months. Juggling school, training for UA, studying and doing their homework, and of course the company, they had pretty much had no time at all to spend with one another aside from passing out on Tenya's bed next to one another from sheer exhaustion alone.
So here they were getting ice cream. Or they had been, and then Kit had pulled his boyfriend into an alleyway where they were now making out. The whole PDA aspect of it made Tenya blush right down to his toes, but he didn't exactly refuse. At least they weren't shamelessly doing it in the middle of the walkway, instead tucked off to the side. How long had it been since he'd kissed Kit? Not just a peck on the lips in passing or a brief press of the lips before Kit left. But a deep, real kiss. The kind where their bodies melded together and the world melted away.
"W-We should really not do this here." Tenya breathed out, flustered and feeling a little light headed. Kit grinned against his lips. Kit was captivating in an addictive way that made you want more. It was honestly astonishing to Tenya that he'd managed to hook someone like him. He was wild and spontaneous, and brave but kind-hearted. That, and he was absolutely the most attractive person Tenya had ever seen in his life. His bone structure was unlike any other he'd ever seen, and his eyes held this spark in them he'd never in his life seen before. He didn't seem like the person anyone would be able to tie down, but he'd committed himself loyally to Tenya. He'd allowed himself to be caught, and Tenya loved it.
"Take a risk, Tenya." Kit hummed, lips brushing his boyfriend's. The shorter teen had his back to a wall, Tenya looming over him. That made the taller teen all the more flustered. It was a miracle he hadn't started sputtering and chopping his arms about in a panic. "I've been following the rules so well lately. I'm haven't broken a single law since last Thursday."
Tenya paused, opening his mouth to ask what the hell law he'd broken this time and more importantly, if he'd managed to cover it up. He'd gotten used to his boyfriend doing things he wasn't supposed to and could only really hope for the best these days. There was no use trying to correct it-- it wasn't going to happened and he wouldn't stop. So long as he didn't commit anything too heinous, Tenya could settle. Reluctantly, but he was learning fast that it was futile to even try.
Kit pulled back with a mischievous laugh, but he didn't take it back. Tenya grinned back without meaning to, his blush fading a bit as Kit's smaller hand slotted against his own. Kit was a wild card. He was a needle in a haystack, and Tenya was a magnet. Or that's what it felt like sometimes. There was a pulling attraction there that had appeared one day and never left. Tenya was fine with that. He'd like to stay like this forever if he could.
"Alright, alright. Stop looking at me like that, you shit. Let's get some ice cream." Kit pulled him along, drawing him from his love-struck daze. "We're right in the middle of Tensei's patrol route, and I'm sure you can imagine what would happen if he stumbled upon us experimenting with exhibitionism."
Tenya probably should've been embarrassed. A few months ago, maybe he would've been. This time, however, he couldn't help but laugh. Being in a relationship was sort of scary, but Tenya was staring to enjoy the thrill. And he'd be damned if Kit wasn't the biggest one there was.
