Chapter 21
Third person pov
Tenya isn't generally suspicious of his boyfriend despite how utterly shady half the things he does are. He lets him do his thing with the magazine and establish possibly-dangerous strangers he met in back alleys after getting mugged as contacts. He likes to think he's being fairly accepting, all things considered! Kit was comparable to a live wire. He sparked wildly, but was bright when he did it. It was one of the-- not to get too mushy-- many things Tenya loved about him. Kit was too blunt to doubt.
But right now? Tenya was on edge and waiting for the worst.
"What are you two hiding?" He asked, raising a brow down at both Izuku and Kit. Their freckled friend was twitching uncomfortably, and Kit's face was expertly fashioned into something blank. Too blank, if you asked Tenya. Where was that snarky smirk or that egotistical glint in his eyes? Something wasn't sitting right with the Iida teen. They were being too quiet. Kit hadn't dropped a single curse word or insult, and Izuku wasn't even rambling.
"Honestly, I won't lie to you. That dog I adopted? It's not a dog." Kit was just going to level with Tenya. Relationships were fueled by both honesty and loyalty, among other things. Lying or avoiding it wasn't going to get rid of Denise. There was no point in beating around the bush or even attempting to hide it. Tenya was going to flip his lid, and Kit and Izuku would both have to wince and bear with it. "It's a weird man-crow-monster that can't talk that we named Denise. He's in Izuku's bedroom."
Tenya stared at them for a moment, his head dipping in a slight manner that caused the light to reflect off his glasses. Izuku was horribly tense next to Kit, inching somewhat behind his brunette companion. Kit crossed his arms over his chest, leaning his weight onto one leg as he gazed up at his boyfriend, who was in the midst of processing. It was hard to get a read on how the taller teen was feeling, but Kit had a feeling it was nothing good. It's not like they could very well take Denise back to that alley and leave him there. Once you named something, it was yours. It was too late now. They'd even fed the thing.
"...Kit." Tenya said after a moment, voice tight. "Please tell me you're joking."
Kit's grin made Tenya's heart drop and soar at the same time, and the Iida grimaced. He had a feeling today wasn't going to be a very good day.

Denise was, quite literally, a weird man-crow-monster that couldn't talk. Only he was so much more horrifying in literally every way. From his hulking body to his exposed brain, there wasn't a single appealing thing about whatever the hell Kit had decided to drag into poor Izuku's home. The green-haired boy looked to be experiencing a mixture of pride and misery as Tenya blanched at the thing standing stationary in the corner of his room. It stared back with grotesque eyes, showing no real reaction to him being there. Kit was standing there, looking fairly nonchalant despite the beast standing next to him.
"Please tell me you're getting rid of him." Tenya said, voice so small it made Izuku visibly wince. Kit had the audacity to at least look sympathetic, but not sorry. Never sorry. Iida seemed to realize this, groaning and throwing his head back in a manner that would've been deemed dramatic were this literally any other situation. However, this time it seemed more than permitted.
"We already named him." Kit said, patting Denise's arm. Denise just stared at him, not moving otherwise. "Besides, he's harmless! He can be... security. Right, Denise."
Denise stared, and then nodded. Izuku gave the beast a thumbs up from behind Tenya. It stared, but didn't do anything else. Tenya pressed his lips together, but didn't say anything otherwise. Kit gave him a 'what-can-you-do' sort of smile and a shrug that made the Iida sigh and massage his temples to try and get his forming headache to go away. Izuku turned away to disguise his laugh as a cough. Tenya was horribly whipped, and it never failed to amuse Izuku to see it. Kit had a terrifying amount of control over the Iida boy.
"What am I going to do with you?" Tenya was defeated from the beginning. Kit's snarky grin was proof he knew it, too.
"Love me, of course." Kit cooed at him, causing Tenya's cheeks to flush. "Don't give me that look. Besides, Dabi got back to me with some excellent shit. I think it's time we start our first big project, boys?"
Izuku blinked. This was the first he was hearing of any sort of information Dabi had. That being said, the scarred man reported directly right to Kit. Izuku still wasn't sure how to feel about him. Tenya had very loudly voiced his opinion that he looked 'untrustworthy and incredibly thuggish' with a variety of hand motions that conveyed his gusto. Kit had assured him that Dabi was as harmless as an industrial-grade flame thrower, which wasn't comforting at all considering how dangerous those were. Tenya had just about blown a gasket and malfunctioned.
"A project?" Tenya's attention was shifted all too easily. He was a workaholic, and had quickly become dedicated to shaping the magazine into something worthwhile. It was starting to gain speed, and climbing the rankings in comparison to other publications. They didn't have many issues out yet, but were hoping to increase production to get more out to the people. Their website was about ready to launch. Izuku was handling that, while Tenya was helping to organize and coordinate everyone and everything. Kit was sitting at the top of it all, overseeing, managing, and directing wonderfully. Far better than his mother ever had.
"He contacted me about the hero, Hawks. You know, the one that's climbing the ranks. He hunted the guy down and roped him into a conversation." Kit said, pacing across Izuku's room only to whirl on them, eyes glinting and grin stretching wide. Tenya and Izuku shared a look. The short brunette didn't look all that happy. He looked... predatory. "We'll call it 'The Chad Project'! It'll be an entire issue on its damn own. Hell, we could write a book on this shit."
"Who's Chad? Is it an acronym?" Izuku questioned. Kit grinned.
"Oh no, it's a person." Kit said, voice cooling. He stalked back towards them, dramatically falling into Tenya. The teen caught him on instinct, eyes wide at the sudden trust fall. Kit sighed in an exaggerated manner, like a damsel in distress. "Chad is one of the many, many civilians Endeavor has brought harm to. Wouldn't it simply be tragic if we were to start hunting down his victims and wringing them for the truth they never got to share?"
Izuku's eyes widened. Tenya let out a small gasp. Kit opened his mouth and laughed.

The start of their website was well received. It was sleek and professional, with an aesthetic that would appeal to younger and older audiences alike. Tenya had taken many of the photographs that appeared. Their topic of the month was displayed first, with an automatic slideshow of pictures and text relating to it displayed proudly. Izuku had worked insanely hard on it. Between that and all the working out he'd been doing with Kit, he was wiped. But proud. They'd gotten so much traffic it crashed. It was all thanks to the many tabloids talking about it. The sudden shift in their magazine's focus had caught attention.
"Damn. You kids must be rolling in it." Dabi drawled, leaning over Kit's shoulder. It was late, and after a lot of deliberation, they'd all gone off to Tenya's house. Sneaking Denise through the window hadn't been easy. Then, Kit had told Dabi to come over. Both Izuku and Tenya had been mortified. That was before they met him and realized that, while he was a dick, he really wasn't that bad a person. In fact, he reminded them of Kit. But more closed off and rude. It was a part of his whole look.
"Speaking of rolling in it, I should pay you." Kit realized. Tenya had taken to sitting in the rolling chair at his desk, and Kit had plopped into his lap sideways. Izuku was on the bed going through Dabi's thorough notes, a laptop open next to him as he cross referenced with as many articles as he could find to try and form a bigger and more detailed picture of what had happened to Chad. Hawks being his brother was a new angle not mentioned anywhere. Hopefully, that would help in bringing Endeavor down. Guy was a total shit bag. Kit looked over Tenya's shoulder. "Hey, Izuku! How much should I pay Dabi!"
"The average reporter makes 14-45 dollars and hour, but Dabi doesn't have a set work time. The average yearly salary ranges from around 24K to 89K per year, depending on experience and how good they are at it. Dabi has just started, so paying him an entry-level amount makes sense." Izuku said, not once looking up from his notes. "However, he's been hired for almost no time at all and has already brought you your first big project. He hunted down a rising pro hero who can't be easy to get a hold of. If you want him to be sitting comfortably, I'd say give him 1,700 a week."
"Sounds good." Kit shrugged. Dabi's eyes grew wide. "What? I'm rich as fuck. I'll even get you a bonus Porsche. There's like, twelve in my mother's garage that I'm not old enough to drive."
"Shit, kid, that's too much." Dabi shook his head. Were they serious? He seemed serious. This was... insane. He'd just gone from a jobless heap of scarred skin and staples on the side of the road to making a big enough salary to support himself, his non-existence spouse, his two imaginary children, the family pet that he didn't have, and to take them all on a yearly vacation. "Like he said, I just started."
"I beg to differ! Izuku has a great point. I'm sure you've hear the phrase 'go big or go home'. You've captured that and brought up the first big project we can use to make some sort of change." Tenya noted idly, focusing on the photo of his brother he was editing. He glanced at the man with a half smile, and Kit grinned up at him. "Besides, you're a part of our team. It wouldn't make us very good sports if we didn't compensate you for your troubles."
"The man speaks." Kit pressed a loud kiss to Tenya's cheek, earning a flush for his troubles. "You heard the man. You're out there kicking ass, taking names, and exposing murderous, child-abusing assholes. He's a walking arson accident waiting to happen, so fuck-"
The door opened, Tensei opening his mouth to say something but freezing. Izuku, Dabi, and Tenya all snapped to gaze at him with wide eyes. Kit didn't seem to mind, continuing.
"-him and his bullshit. We'll topple hero society if it means he gets off his high horse. Hey, Tensei. This is Dabi." Kit noted. Tensei's eyes were darting between Dabi and Denise, who was sitting in the corner trying to solve a Rubix cube of all things. He was fascinated by it. Izuku had explained it, solved it in less than a minute, and then mixed it up and handed it back to the creature to play around with. "Oh. That's Denise. He's our... security."
"Oh." Tensei squeaked out, eyes flying to Kit. Tenya looked like a deer caught in headlights, Kit sitting in his lap throwing off his entire shocked look. Dabi seemed ready to run at a second's notice, watching Tensei carefully to see what he'd do. "Can I... help at all?"
"Yes!" Izuku almost toppled his laptop right off the bed, eyes shining. "Tell me everything you know about Endeavor and the Hero Commission."
Tensei grimaced at the Number Two Hero's name. Dabi decided right then that he probably wasn't as bad as most of the pros out there.
