Chapter 2

Third person pov

Summer fell upon them in the blink of an eye, and Kit became a regular in the Iida household.

Often times, Yumi and Tadao didn't even know he was there. It was the same for Tensei, though he was often busy with work anyway. His meetings with Kit were few and far between, but Tensei tucked them away for safe keeping. Kit was an oddity, but one he was quickly beginning to love. He brought out the joy in Tenya, and Tensei couldn't even begin to thank the brash boy for that.

Now that Kit knew which window was Tenya's, he had absolutely no trouble scaling the wall outside and letting himself in. Tenya certainly didn't mind. Seeing Kit never failed to bring a smile to his face. Hanging out with him endlessly was fine. He'd have the boy move in if he could. The blue-haired boy wasn't sure he'd ever get tired of the brunette's presence. Besides, with school out for break, he was feeling even more Kit-deprived.

Kit didn't like being at home, but he liked Tenya, so it was a win-win. Hanging out with the taller boy was refreshing. Most people regarded Kit distaste. Kit's personality was so shitty that he couldn't blame them. It was nice to finally find someone who had the mental capacity to deal with his bullshit. Tenya had the uncanny ability to actually grow fond of Kit and his brashness, which was shocking enough as it was. What surprised Kit the most was that Tenya was perfectly fine with growing fond of Kit and hanging out with him. He just let it happen without resistance. There was no shame at all there.

Now they sat in his bedroom. It felt like they were in an oven. They'd opened a window and gathered every single fan they could, aiming it at themselves to no avail. The air conditioning was broken, leaving them to sit and suffer unless they wanted to go somewhere else. Kit had been the first to take off his shirt, saying 'fuck it' as he did so. Tenya had followed closely in suit, half because his brain was boiling in his skull, and half because he didn't want it to be weird because only one of them had their shirts off.

"Dude, what the hell?" Tenya tensed as a hand planted itself on his stomach. Tingles shot out from the spot and sparked across his skin in a manner that felt mildly threatening, and certainly new. "Dude, you're ripped as hell. I mean, I get the legs, but this? Damn."

Tenya felt his cheeks flush, but he knew they were already red from the heat. Kit wouldn't notice. He shifted awkwardly as Kit's hand ran up and down his abdomen, red eyes wide with something akin to awe and wonder. A shiver shot down his spine, and he pushed his glasses further up his face as his gaze trailed down Kit's stomach. He felt his face head further and tried clearing his throat in hopes that would help.

It didn't.

There was something odd the way Kit's hand felt. It felt like... a hand, sure. But different. It was relaxing, but also made him tense all over. He liked it, but he didn't. It was unlike anything he'd ever felt before in his life. Then again, he'd never had someone running their hand up and down his abs either. It occurred to him that Kit was currently feeling him up, and the realization made his face go completely red and his spine go straight as a rod. Yet he almost didn't want it to stop. That was the weird part he couldn't quite get. It made no sense. Kit was his best friend. Was it... okay that he sort of liked this?

"You have muscle definition as well." Tenya pointed out, doing his best to shake the odd feeling taking form in his chest. Kit took one look down at himself and scoffed, poking his own stomach. His abs were showing, but weren't nearly as defined as Tenya's were. The brunette clearly worked out, but not like Tenya did. Tenya's body was built to gather muscle. He had a broad frame, and it wasn't hard to gain brawn. Kit's body was slimmer and no doubt had a harder time taking on fat and such of the like.

"Shit, I guess so. But not like you." Kit squeezed his upper arm experimentally, and Tenya's adam's apple bobbed, eyes going from his friend's hand to his tanned stomach. It looked smooth but toned, and Tenya wondered when it would be like to run his own hand down it in the same was Kit was doing to him. "Look at this. You're built like a damn tank. You could body slam the losers who were bothering you before into next week."

"I don't condone violence." Tenya's voice sounded tight even in his own ears as Kit seemed to inspect him, running his fingertips over the dips and rises of Tenya's muscles. He sat there tensely, wondering just what was wrong with him. It wasn't like Kit had never touched him before. They were best friends, so physical contact was expected. This just felt oddly... different, and Tenya wasn't sure how he felt about that.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Kit pulled back, raising an eyebrow when he saw the expression on his friend's face. Tenya wanted him to keep going, but also didn't. It was a new conflict he'd never run across before. "Are you okay? You look like someone just shit in your salad."

"I-I'm fine." Tenya cursed himself for stuttering when he had no reason to. Kit's expression fell flat as though to ask him if he was really being serious, and Tenya quickly looked away, his face feeling hotter than usual. He immediately blamed it on the heat, but he knew deep that wasn't it. He just... wasn't sure what 'it' was just yet. The weather made sense. He could blame it on that, and it rationalized it in his mind. So that's exactly what he did.

"Was it me touching you? I won't do it again." Kit held up his hands in surrender. "Scout's honor. Seriously, I had no idea it would freak you out so much."

"Ah, it wasn't that." Tenya said, even though it was. It wasn't that the touching itself was bad or had made him tense like that. He was his own feelings. Tenya had absolutely no idea what to think of them. He'd never felt such heat shoot across his body before. It was like he was on fire, but the warmth wasn't the same kind the summer weather was bringing with it. It was a different kind that made his mouth dry and breaths come out slow and shallow.

"Whatever you say. Now, what do you say to a movie marathon or some shit? Maybe we can dig out some ice cream." Kit was already making way towards the TV sitting opposite the bed. Tenya's eyes followed him without him meaning them to, and he swallowed heavily as he stared at the boy's tan back. He watched the muscles flex as Kit shuffled through Tenya's movie collection, taking out some possible choices while commenting lightly on what he was in the mood for. Tenya was barely listening as his gaze dropped from Kit's back to his-

"I-I'll be right back. Restroom." Tenya blurted out, hopping to his feet and racing out the door before Kit could call out to stop him. His heart was pounding in his chest so hard he thought it might burst right out. He felt as though he'd just had a brush with death or something of that sort, even though it was just Kit. That was the issue. It was Kit, his friend. So why was Tenya looking at him like that, so shamelessly? It didn't make any sense. They were both males and... and...

He groaned, splashing water across his face and taking some deep breaths. The heat really was getting to him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The air conditioner was fixed the next day, and Tenya made sure to crank it up high to prevent any more stripping. He didn't want a repeat of before. That feeling... he still wasn't sure he'd liked it. Whether or not it had been a good thing, it was new and unfamiliar. He wanted to know what it was in case it happened again. He wasn't sure if that meant he should try and experiment mildly to get it to bubble up again, or if he should just wait and see if it was just a one-time thing.
He was on edge the whole week. He kept diligent, searching for hints of that feeling once again. he almost wanted to feel it, but he also didn't. It was a relief that it was gone. No more confusion, and no more pointless Google searches that did nothing to aid him in his search for answers. Nothing had changed. They were just Kit and Tenya. Completely normal, best friends, with no weird tingling sensations and flushed faces. It was all fine.
"The beach might be fun. Does any bad shit happen when you get water in your engines?" Kit eyed Tenya's bulky calves, or more specifically, the exhaust pipes sticking out the backs of them. Tenya shrugged. They were sprawled out in his backyard, staring at the tree branches above them. He couldn't recall the last time he'd come out here to just lay down. He could remember times when he was younger, doing it with Tensei, but...
"Not in particular. I wear plugs as a precaution." Tenya answered absentmindedly. "We bought more ice cream as well."
"Chocolate?"
"Of course."
"I don't have swim trunks anyway. Let's go." Kit was up in seconds. Tenya was quickly beginning to realize that sweets were a weakness of the brunette's. Anytime Tenya offered him something sugary, he was powerless to refuse. It made Tenya wonder how he stayed so skinny. Maybe he simply worked out enough to make up for it, even if Tenya had never really seen him go on any runs or do any weight lifting. That being said, Tenya wasn't with him 24/7 either.
Kit's home life was somewhat of a mystery. For one thing, the brunette seldom ever brought it up. When he did, it was always with a gruff tone and downcast look that bordered on angry. It worried Tenya, but he didn't want to pry into his friend's life too hard. That might cause Kit to shut him out completely, and... well, Tenya wasn't too sure what he'd do if that happened. He was somewhat new to this whole 'friendship' thing, so he didn't want to ruin it.
"You really shouldn't consume so much sugar, Kit." Tenya fell into step next to him with ease. Tenya was about half a foot taller than the brunette, so he had no trouble keeping up with him. His legs were far longer than Kit's. Tenya found that oddly amusing, though he'd never tell his friend that. He'd get a spiel of curses if he mentioned it, along with a fair amount of pouting and moping. It never failed to remind Tenya of a sulking dog. An angry, sulking dog.
"You're the one enabling my sorry ass. Did I buy the ice cream?" Kit raised a brow up at him, red eyes meeting blue. That's when it happened. It was such a shock that it nearly made Tenya trip and fall flat on his face. It was that feeling. That same one. It was brief, a mere ghosting of warmth brushing through him like a swift wind. It was gone just as quickly as it came, and Tenya blinked rapidly. Not because he terribly stunned, but because he was confused. It shouldn't have been possible. He hadn't even touched Kit, and Kit certainly hadn't touched him either. Could it be that the sensation could be brought on by non-physical acts as well?
"You're the one choosing to eat it." Tenya ended up quipping back when he realized he was staring. Kit narrowed his eyes a bit before mumbling something to himself and shuffling into the house like a scolded child. Tenya snorted a bit to himself as he followed, determined to help Kit reach the bowls so he didn't try to scale the counters on his own again. That had been a mess, no matter how much it made them laugh.
They got their ice cream, Kit managing to convince Tenya to have some too, before they went up to his room and flipped on the TV. Tenya hadn't really used his movie collection or TV before meeting Kit, but now it felt like he was watching it left and right. He didn't see anything wrong with that. The TV was there to be watched, right? He was glad it was getting some use. Kit tried to get him to help in the choosing of what they'd watch, but the brunette gave up when he realized Tenya's mind had taken a vacation.
It was true. He was quite preoccupied trying to figure out what that feeling was. He'd spent hours surfing the internet. A preposterous way to spend his time, he knew. He never would have devoted so much of his day to such an act were it not summer, and were he not desperate. He'd never had a best friend, so of course he'd done research on those. There were no mentions of the sparking sensation or the scalding heat. Was there a chance he was the only one experiencing it?
It happened again when they were watching movies. Kit didn't do anything this time, really. He didn't touch Tenya or look him dead in the eyes. All he did was laugh. Not a particularly loud or boisterous one, but it was certainly there. It sent warmth shooting out from Tenya's chest and climbing across his body like a wild fire. Tenya hadn't been able to resist the urge to smile and stare at his friend's face. He had no idea why this was the case, but it was beginning to freak him out just a bit.
Tenya considered a terrifying fact. He considered that maybe, somehow, he was broken. There were no mentions of this in his readings of friendship articles. Things had been fine before, and Kit wasn't doing anything differently. Everything was at it should be. As it had been ever since he first met Kit. All the cogs in their relationship were turning just fine. All the articles he read on healthy relationships with friendly associates told him that they were doing everything right. Well, everything right before Tenya had to ruin it.
Kit had to go home that night. Tenya was sad to see him go, but this was nothing new. He gave him a quick pat on the back and promised to keep his window unlocked. In return, Kit swore he'd text him later before dropping into the bushes a whole floor below Tenya's window. He probably earned a few scratches for it, but that didn't seem to bother Kit. His arms and legs were littered in small nicks and scars. A few scrapes from some branches weren't anything to him.
Tenya tried to look his symptoms up. He felt feverish, his skin prickled, and his heart rate increased. Not to dangerous levels, but noticeably. He was also quite sure his face had flushed during these few 'episodes' he'd had with Kit. However, he'd never had a mirror on hand, nor did he want to ask Kit, so it wasn't a fact he could confirm. He decided to leave it out of his search just for good measure. He checked several sources over the course of the night, and came to a terrifying realization that made his heart drop in despair.
He rushed across the hall to Tensei's room once he was somewhat sure. It was the only explanation, and he didn't know what to do. He'd never run into this problem before. Not once! He needed some advice. He knew Tensei had experience with things like this, growing up. Asking him was the most logical course of action in Tenya's mind. He knocked hastily and maybe a bit more frantically than he'd meant to.
It didn't take long for the door to swing open. A half-asleep Tensei braced himself against the door frame with one hand, his other on the knob. He blinked blearily as his slightly-panicked younger brother as he tried to process just what he was seeing. Tenya was very clearly upset about something. Maybe upset was the wrong word. He looked more concerned, if nothing else. Tensei took a deep breath and tried to gather his thoughts.
"Tenya?" Tensei finally managed to grumble, voice scratchy from sleep. "What are you... it's two in the morning."
Tenya looked surprised by the revelation. Tensei tiredly raised a brow at that. "My apologies! It did not occur to me to check the hour." Tenya seemed embarrassed by this fact, but then the panic was back. "I have an issue, Tensei."
"What is it?" Tensei felt a little more awake as Tenya's face flushed. His younger brother took a deep breath. Tensei prepared for the worst.
"I believe I am developing an allergy to Kit."
Tensei stared at him for a full ten seconds.
"...A what."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Oh dear god.

Tenya didn't have an allergy. Tensei obviously knew that the second he said that. You couldn't be allergic to a person, unless it had something to do with their quirk. Someone with a cat allergy might not go well with someone with a cat quirk, but Kit was quirkless, so that was completely off the table. That begged the question: why did Tenya think he was allergic to Kit? It hadn't taken Tensei long to realize. At all.

Tenya had a crush. Or at least the beginnings of one, from what Tenya frantically described. The touching, the eye contact, and the laugh. Huge red flags in Tensei's all-seeing eyes. The second he mentioned the odd urge to touch Kit's stomach as well, Tensei knew. He knew, and poor Tenya had absolutely no idea what was happening. Not only did he have a crush, but he liked boys too! Of course there was no way to tell what his actual sexuality was: gay, bi, pan, it could be anything. But it was probably one of those. Tensei supposed that was pretty low on the list of priorities right now.

"God, how do I even begin to explain this to you?" Tensei groaned, running a hand over his face. He had to be up for work in a few hours, Tenya looked like he was having some form of an existential crisis, and Tensei was being forced to wrap his head around all this in the span of a few minutes so he could reassure his younger brother. "Well, I can promise you it isn't an allergy."

Tenya looked shocked but relieved. "It's not? How can you be sure?" He asked. Tensei sighed heavily, pulling his phone off his bedside table and unlocking it. Tenya watched with curious concern as his elder brother tiredly typed something in while squinting against the bright light his mobile device produced. A text, perhaps? Tenya wasn't sure, but he wasn't about to ask and interrupt either.

"Here." Tensei thrust the phone towards him after a moment, massaging his temples as he felt a headache began to form from being woken up so abruptly. Tenya hesitantly took the phone, eyes scanning the page. His eyes immediately went wide as saucers, and his lips parting in surprise as heat crawled its way into his cheeks. He looked at his half-asleep older brother with an expression that was nothing short of completely taken aback. Tensei didn't have the energy to snort in amusement. Tenya's gaze flickered back down to the phone.
