Chapter 16

Third person pov

A few runs on the beach and a sleepover at Izuku's later, and the freckled boy finally agreed to meet Tenya. It had taken a lot of convincing on Kit's part. Katsuki had melded the green-haired boy into a Midoriya-sized bottle of anxiety and self-esteem issues. The guy was absolutely convinced he wasn't worth the trouble Kit was going to for him. Kit even tried pulling the 'friends do shit for each other' card several times to no avail. It took days before Izuku even seemed to realize that Kit wasn't just fucking with him, which was sad. Kit had begun to eat as much of Katsuki's shit out of the fridge and pantry as he could as retaliation.

Mitsuki and Masaru were delighted to hear that Kit had reconnected with Izuku. They'd been prompting Izuku to for a while to no avail, and thus were overjoyed when the brunette went off and did it without anyone having to tell him to. Katsuki seemed especially annoyed when Kit would roll out of bed at the ass crack of dawn to go on a run with the freckled boy. They'd build up his stamina a bit, then maybe start with some weight training. Kit didn't care about Katsuki's opinion on any of it. If Izuku wanted to be a hero, then a hero is exactly what the fuck he'd be.

"A-Are you sure this is a good idea?" Though Izuku had agreed, the quirkless boy was still nervous as he scurried after his brunette friend. These past few weeks had been totally surreal for him. Kit Suzuko was his friend again! He'd come back from god knows where, covered in scars and with a six times as much snark, and was ready to rekindle their flames of friendship once more as though they'd never gone out to begin with! It was totally insane. He was elated with disbelief, and so was his mother. And now, he might get to have another friend? One who was a part of a hero family?!

"Positive, vato. Just trust me. He's a great guy. He's a bit uptight when you first meet him, but he grows on you. I'm also working on trying to get him to be less tense. If I could just get him to comply." Kit's eyes narrowed. Izuku wanted to ask what he was doing, but thought it was better not to. He really didn't want to know. His eyes trailed down to Kit's feet, checking to make sure his shoes were still there. As weird as it was, the tanned teenager always seemed to lose them wherever he went.

Kit was... weird. Not in a bad way necessarily, but he was a whole lot different than anyone Izuku had ever known. He'd changed quite a bit from when they were kids, but Izuku knew better than anyone how bullying could change a person. Kit was strong, but that didn't mean he hadn't been through anything harsh. If anything, he was strong because of what he'd withstood. If Kit had moved here, it was for a reason. One he didn't really seem too keen on talking about. Izuku obviously wouldn't push, but it was clear it had upset him decently.

"If... If you're sure, then..." Izuku said hesitantly, uneasily gripping the straps of his backpack. His legs ached from the long runs they'd been going on recently, and his arms hurt from the push-ups, but he trudged on after Kit anyway. The soreness was a sign of progress, even if it wasn't much. That alone was enough to make his lips curl up into a smile. The heavy weight that normally rested upon him felt entire tons lighter with Kit around. Kit believed he could be a hero. That made him feel incredibly determined. It was amazing what just a little bit of someone else's faith could do.

"Don't sweat the small stuff. Tenya's a cool guy. He already has been urging me to try applying for UA, and he knows I'm quirkless as shit." Kit noted. He really just wanted Izuku to feel better. When they were younger, the guy was all smiles and happy, fun times. Now he just seemed... sad and withdrawn. It was actually pretty depressing to see what a difference a few years could make. Izuku used to be open with everyone, happily participating in games, conversation, and speaking out about his passions. It was annoying to know his own cousin was one of the main reasons Izuku no longer felt so inclined to share.

Izuku had potential, though. Most quirkless people were pissed at the world. Kit was one of them, and so was Izuku, though he didn't show it the same way everyone else did. Izuku used most of his rage to fuel his determination. Kit was the same way, but a lot of his anger also seeped out in the form of snark, causing him to lash out and at times get violent anytime he was provoked even in the slightest. Izuku's rage was silent. Always there, but never really coming out to play until shit hit the fan. That's when the freckled boy would wield it like it was some sort of terrifying weapon. There was a lot he could do with that alone, even without a quirk on his side.

"A-Alright, yeah." Izuku said, feeling a bit better about it as they walked down the street. Kit hummed to himself, content enough with the answer for now. They'd work on it. Anxiety was a bitch, but Kit would help him better work through it over time. There was just one little issue. How was he supposed to get Izuku to go to Somei? It was either that or Kit go to his shit hole middle school-- and he really wasn't jumping at that idea considering where Tenya was. Kit had a sneaking suspicion his boyfriend really wouldn't be all that here for it either.

Kit could pay for it. Though he was still a minor, the company had fallen onto him. Kit had spent plenty of nights sorting through it. They had a magazine they needed to get out by the end of the month, and you could sure as shit bet Kit was curbing its focus. It was a fashion magazine his mother had constructed of only the hottest models and heroes, placing them on the covers. She didn't get a flying fuck about the little guy. Kit would wrangle Tensei onto the cover if it was the last thing he did. And no more shitty gossip sections about who was fucking who. They needed something else, and he'd told their team of writers as such via a very heated phone call. Most were ecstatic, luckily. He also wanted to do more on support gear companies and quirkless awareness, along with LGBTQ+ awareness within hero society and the community itself.

Their plans for the day were quite simple. They'd go meet up with Tenya, host some 'formal' introductions, per the Iida boy's insistence, and then they'd go tear up the town. See how many ice cream sandwiches they could fit in Kit's mouth, have Izuku attempt to guess people's quirks, and maybe even force Tenya to challenge a motorcyclist to a race. Bonus points if the one on the cycle was a cop with an ego thinking they couldn't possibly be beat.

Kit was ready for them to meet. They were going to become best fucking friends. A trio to keep an eye on. If Kit could get Izuku on his side, Tenya would be outnumbered, and then maybe they could get into some real trouble. The fun kind, though! Nobody would get hurt-- so long as they minded their shit, that is. That was besides the point. Izuku and Tenya would get along great, or Kit would bash their skulls in until they did! Simple science, or whatever the fuck it was.

Iida was actually quite a bit nervous to meet Kit's childhood friend. What if they hated him, and that made Kit not want to see him anymore? He knew the thought was incredibly stupid, but that didn't stop him from having it anyway. Kit would never leave him over someone else's opinion. Especially if he hadn't talked to said person in years. He just had to have faith in his boyfriend's judgement. Considering all the questionable people he tended to associate with, intentionally or not, Tenya was reasonably concerned. He had a right to be! How long would it be before Kit dragged in a criminal?

Back on the topic of Kit's friend, it was valid to not that were also quirkless. That didn't mean much in terms of personality, but Kit had described them the same way most people without a given power were. Quiet, meek, anxious, and generally shy. Izuku fit that, the only difference being that he appeared to be smarter than most people-- quirk or not. Kit didn't give praise lightly, but had been raving about the other boy's hero notes since he finally got a chance to read them. On top of that, the other teen was apparently a hero nerd. At least, that's what Iida was assuming based on the countless photos he'd gotten.

Tenya's eyes scanned the crowd in search of his brunette boyfriend. It wasn't all that crowded, but Kit was short enough that he could easily slip by even in minimal foot traffic. Iida had to keep his peepers peeled if he wanted to catch him before he could slip by. He kept his back to the ice cream shop he'd stationed himself in front of, not wanting anyone-- namely Kit-- to sneak up on him. Last time they'd met in public, Tenya had nearly had a heart attack when his boyfriend leapt onto his back and latched on like some sort of koala. The shorter teen's laughter still rung in his ears even now.

His roaming eyes found the pair he was looking for, and he straightened considerably. Kit was with a boy only a few inches taller than him, his hair just as green and wild as Kit had described it to be. He had freckles sprinkled across his face, and looked generally gangly and skinny. He could see what Kit meant when he said the other teen wasn't in shape. He almost couldn't help but grimace. Helping him get into shape wouldn't be easy, but if Kit was up to the challenge, then so was Tenya!

Midoriya looked withdrawn and a bit shy, an anxious smile on his face as he tentatively chatted with Kit. Kit didn't acknowledge the nerves, which was to be expected. He wasn't the type to get onto someone for being stressed out. He just walked alongside him, hands shoved in his pockets as he mindlessly talked about whatever the given topic was. His crimson eyes lazily roamed about, presumably in search of Tenya. That made the blue-haired teen want to smile and flush for no reason at all. His blue eyes met red, and Tenya cleared his throat.

"Kit!" He boomed a bit louder than he'd meant to, making a chopping motion with his hand without really intending to as the brunette switched courses and made his way over while sporting a familiar, sharp grin. Midoriya jumped slightly at his loud tone, so Tenya made an effort to lower it. "And you must be Izuku Midoriya! It's a pleasure. My name is Tenya Iida."

"O-Oh, hi!" Midoriya squeaked out, his eyes wide. Kit let out a laugh, slipping himself under Tenya's arm. The taller teenager couldn't stop himself from flushing, clearing his throat as he held out a hand for the green-haired boy to shake. Kit watched the pair expectantly. Izuku seemed incredibly nervous and jittery as he shook hands with Tenya. "I-It's nice to meet you too. Kit h-has told me a lot about you!"

Tenya went red at that, and Kit snorted. "All good shit; don't worry. So introductions are done, right? Izuku, Tenya, Tenya, Izuku. Awesome. Let's go do something illegal."

"Kit!" Tenya and Izuku both exclaimed, Tenya's coming out more exasperated in comparison to Midoriya's yelp. The two looked at each other with clear surprise, Izuku's shoulders hunching considerably. Kit could only sigh. Wonderful. Two goody-two-shoes to get on his case. How would he have any fun? There was still hope for Izuku. He could be converted and all that shit. There was, however, no hope whatsoever for Tenya. Kit had come to accept that, though he was still one-hundred percent sure the taller teenager was a freak in the sheets. It was just a matter of convincing him. Kit wouldn't pressure him. Consent was key, obviously, but he would keep bringing it up until Tenya said yes. It's not like he'd actually said no.

"Yeah, yeah, alright. Let's be lawful and obey the restrictions society has placed upon our sorry asses." Kit sighed. Izuku seemed a lot more relaxed now, shaking his head and smiling a smile that didn't look quite as nervous as his others did. Kit hummed to himself. What was something they could do that technically wasn't illegal? Walmart fashion show was out, as they weren't really fans of all their women's clothing being ripped off the hangers and put on by odd teenage boys. Sticking Mentos in a few two liters in a gas station was probably off, and so was tagging.

"Excellent! I'm glad we agree." Tenya said with a knowing smile on his face, completely ignoring the sarcasm his boyfriend had displayec. His eyes shifted to Izuku. "Is there anything you'd like to do, Midoriya? I believe it would be beneficial if we got to know each other some more!"

"O-Oh, I don't know! Anything is fine with me!" Izuku sputtered, not sure what to do, say, or even how to breathe at this point. Tenya Iida wasn't at all what he'd been expecting. He was... well, exactly how Kit had described him to be. Izuku had thought for sure that the brunette had been exaggerating, but could see now that he was sorely mistaken. Iida really was fairly uptight when you first met him! Izuku hoped he'd get to see the more laid back side of him one day. The one Kit said he reserved solely for close friends and family.

"Jesus Christ, you two. This is a friendly fucking get together, not a job interview. Lighten up!" Kit slipped away from Tenya, putting his hands on his hips. "Let's get ice cream or some shit. We can even get some cookie dough to go so we can bring it to Tensei during his break or whatever."

"Where are your shoes?" Tenya asked instead of responding to his suggestion, frowning at his feet. Izuku jumped slightly, gaze snapping down. How the-

"You just had them on!" He yelped, whirling around with furrowed brows in search of them. Kit blinked down at his feet languidly, clearly not really seeing the problem. How he could just lose his shoes was beyond both of them. If they didn't know better, they'd both say that was his quirk. "Kit, where did they go?"

"I have absolutely no idea why you're asking me." Kit said in all honesty. Iida and Midoriya both shared a look. Kit rose his eyebrows at them. "So, are we getting ice cream or not? I'll even pay for it before we leave."

Tenya sighed as though burdened, and Izuku couldn't stop himself from smiling. Kit and Tenya were an odd pair, but... Izuku thought they made for great friends.

"Orange juice fuels your engines? How does that work?" Izuku asked, frowning at Tenya's bulky calves as they walked towards where Tensei was patrolling. Izuku was carrying the plastic bag that held the small tub of cookie dough ice cream while Tenya carried Kit on his back. The brunette had insisted he could walk, but Tensei frequented some of the shadier parts of the prefectures he patrolled, meaning the streets weren't nearly as well kept. Izuku had agreed that stepping on broken glass or a discarded needle would be less than ideal, hence why the brunette was getting piggy-backed.

The sun was setting in the distance, and it was safe to say Izuku and Tenya were officially friends. Just as Kit had promised, the pair got along great! They had a lot more in common than you'd think, and when they had no idea what to say or do, Kit was there to mediate. His snark was perfectly balanced out by the pair of them. They didn't even mind Izuku's ramblings, or the fact that he stuttered, and got embarrassed easily. Tenya had even agreed it was, without a doubt, possible for Izuku to become a hero! He'd admitted that it would be hard, and that obtaining a top rank was unlikely, but he believed Midoriya could do it. And that was enough.

"That's a good ass question, Tenya. I should've thought of that." Kit said, head propped on his boyfriend's shoulder. Why was it orange juice?

"I'm not too sure myself, if I'm being perfectly honest." Tenya admitted. "Orange soda does the trick too, though not nearly as well as pure orange juice. It's the same for Tensei, and for the remainder of my family. We've never really questioned it all too much."

"Maybe it's the citrus or some shit." Kit's nose scrunched up. Izuku found himself nodding and opening his mouth before he could stop himself.

"Citrus fruits like lemons, grape fruits, limes, and oranges have an acidity that conducts a 7/10 of an electrolyte! So it could be that your quirk somehow maximizes that into powering your engines. It wouldn't be the first time. Also, if you put an orange peel in a high-powered microwave, it produces a gas that can be collected in a liquid form! Scientists are trying to make an eco-friendly fuel out of it!" Izuku rambled excitedly for a moment before seeming to realized he'd spieled again. His face turned bright red. "A-Ah, sorry..."

"No, don't apologize! That was very informative." Tenya gave a smile that was more easy-going than not. "Those are certainly some viable theories. Perhaps when my engines heat up..."

"Told you he was a fucking genius. He's the brains, and I'm the brawn." Kit said in a huffy tone. Izuku lit up considerably at the acceptance of his nerding out. He wasn't used to people actually being... interested in it.

"Then what am I?" Tenya looked mildly miffed. Midoriya stifled a snicker at the offended look on the taller teenagers face. Kit was silently for a moment.

"...The getaway car."

"Kit!"
