Chapter 13
Y'alllll I need a pride-themed contest idea for this book whaddup
Also, this is ABSOLUTELY a filler but it had to happen so here we are! It'll pick up with actual story afterwards. The end is important. Rest is bullshit. Leggo.
Third person pov
In true Kit fashion, the teen showed up at Tenya's at a truly atrocious hour. Three AM.
Kit's day had been hectic, but overall good. He'd helped Katsuki and Masaru haul things out of the office, and had put together a bed. There'd been a woman at the store with light blue hair and tired purple eyes that directed them to one of the more cheaper models that was still sturdy and would last. It was also, coincidentally, able to be put together in literally ten steps. When they'd asked how she knew enough about beds to even know that, she'd only sighed and shook her head. They didn't ask further questions.
Putting it together was still a struggle even with the overly-simple instructions. Afterwards they'd all quietly sat around the table to drink lemonade and ponder. Katsuki was still unnerved by the sudden appearance of his brash and violent cousin, but much more at ease compared to earlier. All of them were exhausted from all the running around like chickens with their heads cut off, but at least they'd gotten it done. Nothing was said of Kit's mother, and the brunette was glad.
Despite the exhaustion invading his bones, Kit still wanted to see Tenya. Not only that, but he also wanted to get his phone. That way there was a more open line of communication between him and his new boyfriend. Seeing as Tenya would no longer be within at least ten feet of him anymore, they had to go back their 'old ways'. And that meant constantly blowing up one another's phones with calls, texts, and pictures of random animals they saw out and about.
Kit wasn't sure what was going to happen with his schooling. He was determined to finish it out at Somei with Tenya, but that would mean waking up entire hours before the ass crack of dawn just to catch a train that would drop him somewhat close to the learning facility. Then, after school, he'd have to do the same thing. Half an hour wasn't the longest train ride in the world. Really, it could be worse, but the first one left at around six AM. The second was at half past seven. He'd have to take the earlier one to get there on time.
"Kit!" Iida breathed out as the shorter boy tumbled through the window, almost getting his foot stuck in the process. Tenya scrambled up off his place on the floor. Though he had eaten just as his elder brother requested, he'd gone right back to lying on the ground soon after. Excusing a bathroom break here and there, Tenya really hadn't moved all that much. He knew he should probably do his daily workout, but he felt entirely drained and just overall depressed without Kit here. He knew the boy hadn't left him permanently or anything, but he was still worried. He had no way to check on the brunette were he to even want to.
"Why the hell are you awake?" Kit raised an eyebrow, though was grinning as he asked. Tenya beamed back happily, reaching out and steadying him. The room was dark, the only thing really lighting it up being the glowing lampposts outside. They cast a warm glow across them as they stood there, just staring at each other. Tenya didn't realize it was possibly to miss someone so much when they'd only been gone a few hours. He supposed maybe he'd gotten too used to having Kit around constantly. It was something he'd have to work on.
"I uh... I-I couldn't sleep." Tenya managed to sputter after realizing he hadn't responded. Kit's grin returned full force, his hands snaking up to grasp Tenya's upper arms. The blue-haired teenager immediately felt his face grow hot as memories from earlier drifted back to him. Kit calling them boyfriends, the article, the kiss. It all made him heat up like a simmering pot of embarrassment, relief, and most of all, anticipation to see what might happen next.
"That's fair. I really couldn't either." Yeah, that was a fucking lie. Kit felt like passing out. "I thought I'd come see you, and get my phone so we can talk when I'm not here. I know I left rather abruptly. Shit hit the fan real fast."
"Yes, I suppose it did." Tenya agreed breathlessly. Kit snorted. The Iida boy clearly had no idea what to do. All he was doing was standing there and staring with wide eyes, looking like a deer caught in headlights. A flushed deer. Kit would have to fix that. Get him used to it, maybe? He didn't know. He'd never actually had a real relationship before. Tenya sure as shit hadn't, especially if his reaction was anything to go off of. Honestly, Kit found that surprising. The fact that Tenya hadn't dated anyone. They were young, but around that age where they began to like other people. How no one could like Iida was beyond Kit.
"Are you just going to stand there and stare at me like an idiot, or are you going to kiss me?" Kit raised an eyebrow, and Tenya's eyes grew wide as dinner plates in an instantly. His blush spread from his cheeks all the way down his neck and to the very tops of his ears, making Kit sigh and shake his head in an almost sad manner. They had a shit ton of work to do if this was going to, you know, work.
"K-K-Kiss?" Tenya squeaked, his voice at least three pitches higher than it usually was. Kit almost had to laugh, but didn't want to ruin the moment even more. One wrong move and Tenya would curl up in a fetal position and hyperventilate while muttering to himself about what he was supposed to do. Maybe he'd even beg the internet for a step-by-step guide. Actually, he probably already had. It wouldn't surprise Kit at this point.
"That's what couples do, isn't it?" Kit grinned sharply up at him, leaning closer and standing on his toes. "We are a couple, aren't we?"
Tenya was sure it wasn't healthy for a heart to beat as fast as his was at the moment, but there wasn't all that much he could do about it. Instead, all he could do was stand there and gape as he processed Kit's words. He needed to calm down before he overheated. He knew he was making a fool out of himself, but he was too comfortable around Kit to care. Kit had said they were boyfriends. Tenya wanted to be boyfriends. He'd processed this hours ago, and yet he was still freezing up.
"I-I- of course we are, but-" Tenya's mouth snapped shut as Kit pulled him further down. The taller of the two bit back a remark on Kit's height, face firing up a fresh shade of red as their lips connected. Somehow, Tenya didn't expect it to be the same as the first. It was a pleasant surprise to see that he was wrong. Just like before, the fireworks were there. Kissing Kit was... he didn't know what exactly it was, but he liked it. A lot.
For someone so brash, Kit was awfully soft on the outside. His lips were smooth like honey, and his skin felt oddly soft, at least when compared to Tenya's. To think someone so rough on the inside could be so... not on the out. Funnily enough, Tenya felt astonished as his lips moved against Kit's. This was surreal. Tenya had experienced literal dreams about this, and now it was happening. Kit was his boyfriend. Holy shit. It was all hitting him for real, right at this very moment. How did he deal with this? Was there a certain way to proceed?
"You know, it kind of ruins the kiss if you start to hyperventilate during it." Kit snickered, his breath fanning across Tenya's face. It smelt like oranges and another fruit. Maybe apricots? Tenya didn't know, but he could somewhat taste it against his lips, lingering. The realization made him turn redder. He was quite sure he'd pass out soon if he didn't do something. This was something he needed to get used to, and fast.
"S-Sorry." Tenya sputtered as Kit slipped away from him. For a moment he almost reached forward to grab at him again, but stopped himself as his best friend-- and boyfriend-- turned towards his desk. He took a few deep breaths as the brunette rummaged in the drawers. This was still Kit. It always would be Kit. It was the same boy who'd introduced himself in front of a flaming desk, with a snarky smile and shimmering eyes. Same person. Tenya needed to take a fucking chill pill.
"There we go." Kit tossed his phone in the air for a heart-stopping moment before catching it, turning to Tenya with a grin. The tall boy still looked shocked beyond belief for whatever reason, but Kit had faith he'd get over it sooner or later. "You know, I've got to get going. I'm fucking wiped. We can meet up tomorrow, if you want."
That seemed to bring Tenya back down to Earth, at least to an extent. "A-Ah, of course! You must be tired. You look tired. I mean, you look good, but also rather 'wiped' as you put it." He babbled, face flushing with clear embarrassment. "Sorry..."
"You're fine, Tenya. It's just me. Kit. Narcissistic, gay asshole who likes to beat shits up. You know me." Kit raised his eyebrows. Tenya felt a bit like he'd been slapped, and even more so like an idiot. He'd been viewing Kit differently ever since they kissed. No, ever since his feelings really began to spring up, he'd been acting odd towards the shorter teen. But Kit wasn't any different. He was still Kit. Tenya just... wanted to kiss him now. Not a huge difference if he was being honest with himself. Transitioning from friendship to romance was a bit of a leap, but that didn't mean Kit was a different person.
"You... I suppose you're correct." Tenya blinked at him. "I still don't condone violence."
Kit rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, you've said. Not gonna stop my trash ass from seeking it out anyway." He shot a finger gun at Tenya, winking. The boy scoffed and shoved his glasses further up the bridge of his nose.
"Sometimes I wonder why I like you." The taller sighed. Kit snorted blandly at him, though was quite invigorated to see Tenya seemed a bit calmer. At least in comparison to his blushing extravaganza just a few minutes prior. There was a good chance Kit had managed to nail some sense through that thick skull of his. Tenya was a panicker, that's for sure. Sometimes all he needed was a good, metaphorical slap in the face to set him right. Kit was always happy to deliver those, that's for sure.
"Coincidentally, I wonder the same damn thing." Kit shoved his phone in his back pocket. "No matter. Now, I've got to get back before Mitsuki notices I'm gone. or worse, Masaru."
"Your aunt and uncle? Are they both nice?" Tenya said, taking a step forward. Kit snickered a bit at his worrying, feeling a bit delirious with his exhaustion. He allowed Tenya to put a hand on his back, leaning against him just a little. Things had gotten rather chaotic rather fast, but at least he was still here. Being his same, strict-but-not self. Kit genuinely hoped Iida never changed.
"Definitely, but they worry like hell." Kit sighed, running a hand through his hair. His lips pulled into a smile again, though this one was smaller, and more subdued in a sense. Tenya frowned down at the exhausted boy before him, wondering if it was even safe for him to try and wander home on his own. "Right, well, I've got to haul ass. And for the love of god, please sleep in your own damn bed. We both know the floor isn't that comfortable."
"Then why did you keep willingly sleeping on it?" Tenya's nose scrunched up. Kit snickered again, swatting at him and stepping away, closer to the window.
"Because you were down there, you dumbass. I swear you're dense as a damn cabbage sometimes." Kit was already putting a leg through the window, reveling in the way Tenya's face flushed. "I'll try not to get my ass mugged on the way home. Call me."
"W-Wait, you're going to leave, just like that?" Tenya immediately regretted saying it. Kit was tired, Tenya was tired, they were both tired. Of course the brunette was going to leave. He needed sleep, and he had his phone anyway.
"Well, we could bone if you really want to." Kit said sarcastically. Iida gave him a blank look. "Google it after I'm gone. No, in the morning. You won't sleep if you google it."
"I think I'll avoid googling it in general." Tenya said, nose scrunched up. Kit barked out a laugh. Tenya felt a fond smile spread across his face as he was given a wink and a two-finger salute by Kit himself before the teen dropped down, disappearing into the bushes under his window. He immediately scrambled to lean out, watching the shorter boy roll out of the brush and pop up on his own two feet, just fine.
Kit turned to give one last wave before darting off down the street. Tenya propped his head up on his hand and watched the boy go until he couldn't see him anymore, and even then he still lingered. He stayed sitting there by his window until his eyelids grew heavy. Though, rather then trying to return to his spot on the floor, he found himself getting in his actual bed instead. He was out before his head hit the pillow.
Kit was not having such luck, but that was mainly because he wasn't exactly home yet. Not because he hadn't had enough time or anything, but because he'd done exactly what he'd tried not to do. He'd even told Tenya he wouldn't, and yet here the hell he was. Apparently he was full of shit, though, because here he was, getting mugged anyway. If this wasn't his luck in a nutshell, Kit didn't know what was. He could already feel the headache he was going to have from it before it even happened. He was pretty good at smelling bullshit, and he knew the moment he stepped into that alley that the place reeked of it.
"Hand over all your cash, kid." One of his muggers was a spiny man with a revolver. His skin was made of up what looked like elongated scales. Kit immediately grimaced. It looked tough, which meant punching and kicking wasn't going to do much. A real problem considering that's all he really had. He'd have to go for the crotch and eyes, which he hated doing. The last thing he needed was to get arrested alongside his mother just a day after escaping her clutches.
"I don't have any on me." Kit shrugged, which wasn't a lie. He just had a bus pass and his newly-acquired phone. He eyed the other two muggers flanking him. Cliche as hell if you asked him, but this wasn't the time for comedy. One had a knife, the other a baseball bat. He'd wager to say at least one of them had a firearm of some sort on them, if not both. It didn't matter. He wasn't giving up his phone, even if he had to money to get another one. All his pictures of himself and Tenya were still on there!
"Don't lie, squirt. Won't do you any good." The man with the bat was huge without factoring a quirk in, and could probably pin Kit with size alone. Not a good thing. The other was scrawny, but his skin was rippling and that could definitely be dangerous. Kit really didn't want to think about how much this was going to hurt.
"Would you like me to empty my pockets? Shake out my boots? Maybe take off my shirt and let you inspect it?" Kit raised his eyebrows. They raised there's back.
"You're not wearing shoes."
Kit looked down, frowning. Huh.
"...Right. What makes you think that I, a ratty, shoe-less kid, would have literally any money?" Kit crossed his arms over his chest. There was a fire escape to his left. If he hopped onto the dumpster he could make it, but the buff guy was tall enough that he could probably snatch him off the ladder if he were fast enough, maybe even follow him up. He didn't know what the rippling-skin guy could do either, but there was a small chance he could extend his limbs, or go long range. That would be an issue.
They seemed to be stunned into silence, but then he saw the scaled fucker clench his teeth and knew his shit was damned to all hell. Really, this wasn't Kit's week. Sure, he's scored a hot boyfriend who was kind, compassionate, and too good for him, but he was about to die before he could delve any deeper into that. Of course he'd go down kicking and screaming, but that didn't change the end result.
"Dammit, just give us your wallet!" The man in the front barked. Kit lunged for the gun.
The sound of a gun going off wasn't something Kit thought he'd ever get used to. It was always deafening, and it made his ears ring in the most uncomfortable way. Still, he was accustomed enough to it that it no longer stunned it to have it go off right by his head. His hand knocked the spiny man's hand upwards, and another shot went off as he wretched the gun from his hand with the other. The firearm went flying when a knife glanced past his shoulder, catching his shirt. It was dull.
"What the fuck! You little bastard!" Spiny shrieked. A bat hit Kit in the back, sending him stumbling forward towards the knife-wielder. He grabbed the sorry excuse for a weapon and yanked, seeming to surprise the man for whatever reason. Kit had literally just gone for that guy's gun, which had flown off to god knows where. Him going for a knife was several, several steps down.
Kneeing knife in the balls was all it took to get him to drop to his knees, though the bat hit the back of his neck with a thump that made his teeth clack together painfully. He knew it would bruise later, twisting around and slashing the knife blindly. It hit the arm of the scaled fucker, doing nothing but making a slight 'twang' that irritated him to no end.
He dodged the bat, almost tripped on the guy he'd kneed, and then got a hard fist to the face from scales. Not exactly a fair match, and Kit was about to snark as such before he was rather rudely interrupted. The brilliant blue light that flared up at the end of the alley could mean either good or bad news. Either way, Kit gladly took advantage of the distraction. With a grimace and click of his tongue, he prayed the police wouldn't catch him for this later as he jabbed the hilt of the knife into spiny's eyes.
And just like that, all hell broke loose.
