It's the whimpers — soft but familiar — that catch his attention and drag him away from his usual route to class after lunch break. His blond hair bounces as he jogs over in the direction of the distressed sounds.
It's way too familiar.
It sounds like —
Jungkook!
His eyes catch sight of his bunny hybrid, curled into himself, in a weak attempt to shield himself from the incoming blows.
"Hey," he yelled, gaining the attention of the seniors and causing Jungkook to snap his head up, eyes wide and teary, his bunny ears pressed flat against his hair.
Jimin doesn't take a good look at the seniors as he pushes past them, shielding Jungkook's tiny body away from them, and pressing soft but frantic kisses to the younger hybrid's hair.
"Look at this," a senior mocks in an overly exaggerated baby voice, "looks wike wittle chick is trying to be all big and brave and help his wittle bunny boyfriend."
The other seniors crack up too, and before Jimin sees it coming, he's snatched away from Jungkook. He gives a surprised squeak that only causes the seniors to erupt into laughter.
"No," Jungkook cries, reaching for Jimin in fear, but he only succeeds in getting himself pinned down by a dog hybrid, canines dancing in front of his eyes, a growl causing him to freeze in response.
Jimin squirms violently as a hand grips him by the jaw, forcing him to look into the eyes of his captor.
A bear hybrid.
"Don't play smart, dumb chick!"
He's stronger and Jimin's squirming and kicking does nothing to help him or Jungkook in the situation.
"Let us go!" Jimin growls in anger, as he hears another whimper escape his boyfriend.
"You barged in here. You got yourself involved," the senior shot back, pushing Jimin to the ground.
"You hurt my boyfriend, bitch!" Jimin yelled, jumping to his feet and making a move to head to Jungkook, only to be held back by the senior and pushed back to the ground.
A kick lands on his shin and he gives a cry.
Jungkook trembles, tears spilling down his cheeks as he begs the seniors to let Jimin go, that it's him they had a problem with. But the reaction it emits from the bunny hybrid gives them sick satisfaction.
The bear hybrid smirks wide and lands a kick right to Jimin's stomach. The hybrid cries out in pain and curls up into himself.
The seniors laugh when Jungkook begins to sob, sadistic comments on the tips of their tongues when a figure emerges from the shadows, a ferocious growl startling them.
There's hardly any time to react before the bear hybrid is pressed against the ground, blow after blow landing on his face. He tries to block, to defend himself, but the other is strong, wrenching his hand away and pinning it above him, rendering him helpless.
Jimin lifts his head, wiping away the tears in his eyes to see Taehyung. Sweet Taehyung, who would never hurt even a fly, gone feral. Canines drawn in a snarl, eyes enraged, glowing like embers in fury.
The dog hybrid lets go of Jungkook, the bunny hybrid scooting away from the scene, drawing his knees closer to his chest.
Jimin watches in awe and horror as Taehyung, their usually gentle cat hybrid boyfriend, unleashes a side of himself he never knew existed. It's as if a switch has been flipped, and the playful, carefree Taehyung has been replaced by a fierce protector.
Taehyung doesn't hold back. His blows rain down on the bear hybrid, each one fueled by the anger and frustration of witnessing his boyfriends being hurt. The bear hybrid tries to fight back, but Taehyung is relentless, dodging his attacks with surprising agility.
Namjoon, their class president, a koala hybrid, rushes onto the scene, followed closely by Hoseok, the school's star athlete, at the commotion.
"What the hell is going on here?" Namjoon demands, his voice authoritative.
The seniors freeze, their faces pale with fear. Taehyung's actions come to a halt, and he moves off the now bloodied bear hybrid, eyes wild as he gives one final hiss.
Hoseok steps forward, his expression a mix of disappointment and anger. "You know the rules," he says, his voice low and dangerous. "No fighting on school grounds. What the heck even prompted this?"
Jimin rushes to Taehyung's side, his stomach still throbbing with pain.
"They were hurting Jimin and Jungkook when I arrived. I gave them a taste of my fist and more. They're lucky I didn't tear their throats out, because trust me, for these two boys of mine, I would kill," Taehyung growls, eyes flashing dangerously, the sincerity in his tone causing the seniors to shiver in fright.
Namjoon shifts his gaze to the seniors, lips drawn in a thin line. "I think the Dean will be interested in seeing you all."
"Well? You heard Namjoon, didn't you? The Dean's cabin is that way. Make a move," Hoseok ordered.
As the seniors shuffled away, heads hung low, Jimin suddenly realised that their youngest boyfriend was still huddled against the wall.
"Jungkookie," he cried, rushing to the bunny hybrid and kneeling beside his trembling figure, "baby, look up at me. Look at hyung. Let hyungs see you, baby."
Taehyung appeared on the other side, a comforting hand placed on the other hybrid's shoulder. Slowly, Jungkook lifted his head from where it was tucked into his arms. The bruises on his face stirring new rage within Taehyung, but he suppressed it.
He could deal with the seniors later. Right now, his bunny needed him more. Taehyung placed a soft kiss to Jungkook's forehead.
"You're safe now, sweetheart."
Jungkook leaned against Taehyung and allowed the cat hybrid to nuzzle his cheeks, jaw, and neck.
Jimin ran a hand through Jungkook's soft locks, fingers gently stroking his bunny ears.
"I'm okay now," Jungkook whispers to them both, before he turns to Jimin, "I'm sorry I got you into this mess. You got hurt because of me."
"No. You're not to blame. They are. They were hurting you and I wouldn't stand anyone hurting you. So don't you dare apologise, Kookie."
Jungkook's lower lip wobbles and Jimin gathers the hybrid in his arms, gently kissing him.
"Thank you. Thank you," the youngest sobs.
"Hush, darling. Don't cry," Taehyung whines, peppering the younger's face with kisses, "I don't like to see tears on my baby's face and anyone who brings tears to your eyes will face my wrath. That I promise."
Jimin smiles softly, "It's all okay now, baby. We're okay. Everything is okay. Our feral kitty is here to protect us."
Taehyung blinks.
"Feral kitty?"
"Mmhm, you went bonkers on them. Hit that senior like there was no tomorrow."
"He touched you both. I should have ripped his arms out for that. I was lenient."
Jungkook's eyes widened.
"No one is tearing anyone's arms out," he mumbled.
"I just might if I see them again," Taehyung huffs, softly thumbing away a year that made it's way down Jungkook's cheek.
"Let's get you to the nurse. Those bruises need to be checked and tended to," says Jimin.
"So do yours," Taehyung responds and Jungkook nods in agreement.
The two help the bunny hybrid to his feet. Taehyung placed a protective arm around Jungkook's waist as he limped. The three of them made their way towards the infirmary, Jimin teasing Taehyung about going all mama mode on the seniors and Jungkook laughing.
The end.
