It's more of a lake than a coast, really. You're not at the beach quite yet, and still have a little ways to go. And you'll stay relatively safe, as long as you stay away from the water. Who knows what lives under the surface?

The lake is murky and deep, and probably has traces of radiation as well. It would be a smart choice to continue on past it, but there is an abundance of Water-type Pokémon in the area. If you already have a Water type, then you'll be far less prone to attack and disease.
