Prologue
The brunette female frowned as she entered her house, quickly ridding herself of her stilettos as quickly as possible.
"Sorry, can't go out tonight, I've got a hot date." She said, a sarcastic smile appearing on her face, although her friend on the other side of the phone couldn't see it.
'Really, who with?' The faint voice on the other line could be heard, sounding intrigued.
"A bottle of wine and a bubble bath." The brunette female, Chiara, said, sarcasm dripping from her voice.
There was a laugh from the other line before the voice said 'Alright, you have fun with that. Bye.'
There was a beep, indicating that the call ended and Chiara let out a depressed sigh, going to her room to rid herself of her work clothes.
She stepped into the bathroom, making sure the bath was running at the right temperature, then left, going to get a bottle of wine from the cabinet in the kitchen, only clothed in a tan towel.
Setting the bottle down, she gave out another sigh, this time more annoyed as she realized she left her phone in her bedroom.
As she walked into her room, she frowned, seeing her window open, but curtains just as she had left them. "I must've had the window open. I'm such a fucking idiot." She mumbled to herself, closing and locking her window.
Seeing her phone where she left it, she picked it up, carrying it with her as she returned to the bathroom.
Seeing that the bath was full, she stopped the water from running, stripping herself of her towel an setting herself comfortably in the bath.
Just as she had relaxed, her phone went off, causing her to groan and opened her, previously closed, eyes, drying her hands to pick up her phone.
'Hey, it's probably about time you came back.' The text said, and she swore she recognized the number.
'I'm sorry, who is this?' She texted back, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
'It's sad that you don't know your cousin.' The text said, causing her heart to stop.
She thought she was rid of him when she moved to the small town.
'You better have your guard up, I will find you.' Another text said, causing her to throw her phone across the bathroom.
She took a deep breath, composing herself. Ok, he said 'I will find you' that implies that he doesn't know where I am right now. I'm still safe. She thought, sighing in slight relief, though it was rather shaky from the fear, and got out of the bath, dying herself quickly.
She changed into her pajamas, hoping to sleep before she had to move. She couldn't get caught by him.
She walked into her room, carrying her, now cracked, phone. She needed to get a new phone.
And a new number.
As she finished her routine, tidying her room a bit, she laid in bed, still feeling tense.
That's when she heard a creak from the other side of the room.
She shot up, already horrified by the sound, the sight before her causing even more fear.
"You really shouldn't have left, Chi. It's too bad, you might have been of use to us." A dark voice spoke, his Italian accent thick.
Fear coursed through Chiara's body, causing her to be paralyzed with the horror of the sight in front of her.
"It's rude to ignore people of higher power, Chi." He said, using the childhood nickname for his cousin yet again.
"L... Luciano... How did you..?" She was too shocked to say much more, and her body was still frozen.
"It's not that hard to trace you. You're a mafia child, you should know better." He said, giving a disappointed sigh and wagging his finger back and forth, as if scolding a child,
"I don't want to do that, anymore. Leave me alone." She said, finally regaining her senses that allowed her to move and talk properly.
"What have I told you about that attitude of yours? It's not very ladylike, is it?" He asked, a playful tone showing in his voice.
He was toying with her.
Just like he had when they were children.
"Go away, Luciano." She practically yelled, her voice strong and commanding.
This didn't help her.
At all.
"You're being very rude, Chiara. If you just come along, the others won't hurt you... Well, not too bad." A smirk appeared of the tanned male's face, his eyes practically glowing.
"No." Chiara said, finally pulling the gun out from under the pillow, shooting it twice.
Once hit Luciano in the left shoulder, the other missed completely, hitting her wall and shattering a picture of her and her brother, Feliciano.
"Damnit!" Luciano yelled, holding his shoulder out of instinct. His eyes closed and he took a few deep breaths, the breaths slowly forming into laughter. "You thought that would work? Sorry Chi, but I guess you're not as smart as I thought."
With that, a tall male came out of the shadows, being previously unnoticed by the brunette female, and grabbed her arms, pulling them behind her harshly.
Due to the violent treatment, she dropped her only method of defense, the gun that had been used to shoot Luciano.
Luciano kept his hand on the wound, preventing any blood from dropping to the floor. There couldn't be any evidence that it was him. He took a few steps forward before leaning down, although it wasn't too far considering his rather short height, and whispering "You really need to start thinking things through, Chi."
She would've responded with an average sarcastic comment, but the knife in her stomach made it impossible to speak. She looked down in horror, blood seeping through her clothes. She thought she had gotten away from this monster, only for him to chase her down.
Like a fucked up game of tag.
Luciano smiled as the life quickly left his cousin's eyes, with the help of about six more slices to the abdomen. She did start this, after all. She knew better than to leave, but she did it anyway. Pathetic. Luciano thought to himself, glaring at the dead body, which was still in the taller male's grasp. "Thank you for your assistance, Lutz, you're free to let go of her now."
With that, the German male dropped the body, stepping over it and walking out of the room.
Luciano took a quick once over of the room, smiling at the little amount of evidence and leaning down to retrieve his knife. "Sorry, Chi," he said, staring at her lifeless body, "but I have some important matters to attend to in San Jose."
With that, Luciano left the room, shutting the door behind him.
