XXV. a letter to Luke

Calum called his three bandmates, well two since Ashton forwarded his calls but read his text message, and told them to meet him at his house.

They were all hesitant and even told the boy he was going to pay for their bus ride back home but they managed to come through.

Even Mama Joy was told to stop tending to her garden and join the boys.

"What's going on, Calum? I have some tomatoes that need picking." She said, peeling off her gardening gloves and placing a fist to her hip.

"Yeah, dude, I was busy playing League of Legends." Michael added, sticking a thumb behind his shoulder as if his house or the game was right there.

Luke looked at the two who answered and shrugged. "I was just chilling, to be honest." He simply said, taking a seat in one of the sofas. "Where's Mhin--"

"She told my mum she was going out, earlier." Calum quickly explained before his attention went to the doorknob.

The front door opened, causing everyone to angle their heads to get a view of who it may be.

A golden curl came through the door before the person and you could hear a pen drop from the silence.

Ashton glanced up at the quiet group then closed the door behind him. You can tell by the blank expression he wore and his demeanor that he didn't want to be here.

If that didn't make it noticeable then it could be the look he gave Calum as he walked further into the living room before giving his attention to Mama Joy.

He smiled small and opened his arms to take her into a hug. "How are you, mumma?" She smiled back as she wrapped her small limbs around him and rubbed his back.

"I'm okay, my boy. How are you?" She threw the question back his way and he sighed. Ashton pulled away and his jaw clenched as he stuck his hands in his front pockets.

"I'll be a lot better after this, I feel. Thank you." He gave her a tight lip smile which wasn't intended for her but the fact that he's in the same room with the guy he punched in the face.

Mama Joy didn't question it, instead she nodded.

Michael turned his head to Calum then to the stack of enevelopes in his hands.

He nodded at the rectangular white packages. "What ya got there?" His green eyes moved up to Calum.

The brown boy spread them on the coffee table in the middle of the sofas and sat back in the loveseat. He pointed. "These were left on the doorstep when I came back from the gym."

Suddenly all of them became more interested, even bitter Ashton. The eight multicolored eyes took a look at the envelopes displayed among the wooden table.

Luke scooted to the edge of the sofa seat and squinted his blue eyes. "What do they say?"

Calum's two brown pair moved to the table, which in totaled a number of ten eyes on the white rectangles.

"They all have our names on them." He sat up and began dispersing the envelopes to the correct names.

One slid in Luke's direction.

One made it halfway to Michael.

A third was tossed towards Ashton.

Another was handed to Mama Joy.

That left two envelopes, one with Calum's name on it and the last with Nikki's written in cursive.

And almost on cue, the latina came through the front door, back nearly hitting it when she found everyone in a general region.

"Dios mío, you guys scared me." Nicole said as she took a breath and stepped inside. She also gave Calum a look then proceeded to give hugs to everyone else.

She then sat next to Luke and clapped her hands together.

"So, what was so importante that I had to miss my nail appointment?" Nikki raised her brows up, scanning the room for someone to answer.

Calum waved the envelope with her name in front of her then slid it across so she could reach it.

"Calum said he found these on the porch and they all have our names on 'em." Michael briefly explained, giving the brown boy a look to which he nodded to.

Mama Joy furrowed her brows and examined the envelope, flipping it around to the seal area. "How do we know it's not like some psycho roaming about the neighborhood dropping letters on front porches?" She questioned, causing everyone to knot their brows in confusion.

Calum raised a bushy one up at his mom. "Probably because that's not too likely, mum." He replied, nodding wih a quiet and elongated 'yeah' when her mouth formed an 'o'.

Ashton rolled his eyes at how long this was all taking and sighed loudly. "So, what are we gonna do? Take 'em and leave because I have somewhere to--"

"I think we should read them here." Nikki suggested, flashing an apologetic smile at Ashton for interrupting.

Calum stared down at his letter and bit his lip. "I mean, maybe we should." His head picked up and he looked up for everyone's approval.

They all thought about it and kind of shrugged.

Mike tilted his, now, black head and pouted his lips. "Read them, like, aloud?" He asked curiously.

Everyone, even Ashton, though he didn't want to, looked Calum's way, silently asking the same thing.

The brown boy shook his head then paused to squint his eyes, an idea popping into his mind.

He licked his lips and got to the edge of his seat. "Okay, so maybe we can read them aloud, y'know just in case it's something important for us all to hear." Calum shrugged, looking around at everyone's reaction.

They seemed hesitant but soon they were all reaching for the top seal of their envelopes. But Calum was quick to stop them.

"Dude, seriously?"

"What now, Cal?"

Mike and Luke expressed, though they all generally felt the same. The maori boy dropped his small package and nodded his head at the blue eyed one.

"We should go one at a time. Luke first?" He asked and suggested. The impatient remaining of the group sucked their teeth, well all except Nikki since she gladly dropped hers, and brought their attention to the nervous blond boy.

"No pressure, right?" Luke asked sarcastically to Calum, gaining an apologetic smile in response. He rolled his eyes and carefully ripped open the seal, taking out the neatly folded letter inside.

His brown eyebrows came together as he read what was in parenthesis.

Blue eyes met brown as Luke gave Calum a suspicious look. "You sure you didn't write all of these to get us here?"

His words caused them all to put Calum in the hot seat, their eyes the single swinging light, leaving him hot and sweaty from it's rays.

Calum quickly shook his head, feeling the 'heat'. "What are you talking about?" He asked as if Luke was crazy.

Luke's eyes peered back down to the letter as he read what was barricaded between the semi-circles.

"It says 'read aloud' atop of the page." Luke said.

The brown boy shook his head and raised his brows. "I guess it's just a coincidence." He responded, bringing a scoff from Ashton's lips.

Calum ignored it. "Go on with the note, Luke." He insisted, causing everyone to give the tall blond the floor, eyes on him as he began to read aloud.

(Read aloud)

11:39 pm. A night after the calamity.

Dear Luke, I don't even know why I'm writing this letter to you when I'm at loss for words, really.

Well...okay...maybe I do have a few words to say to you.

But let me start with the positives before we reach the negatives.

I can see it right now. Your cheeks all pink from being so nervous and shy whenever you're around anything that's remotely close to a female.

You're probably blushing right now.

But I never understood how someone as handsome and as talented as you could be so coy.

Girls would fall to your feet or go crazy over your vocals and awesome guitar solos and your face would flare up.

I'm not saying to change your ways but I never understood it.

But put a mic in front of you and a guitar in your hands and you transform into this new person.

A new personality, a new Luke.

A more confident Luke that should be displayed more often.

I feel like I'm rambling and by now you know who this is...let me get to the point.

I want to send my biggest apologies over letter because it's the only way i could face such an innocent bystander besides a few others.

You didn't know of the situation and in a matter of seconds it came spilling over in front of you, bringing this decision to choose between which friend to help upon you.

Someone like you didn't deserve that.

For that, I apologize.

And then I nearly broke something I've had nightmares about since it happened...I broke a close bond.

A band that was held together by the strongest of glue, pulled apart by an acetone of wrong decisions.

I'm so sorry you got caught into the wildfire caused by the cigarette of lazy fingers.

I hope to hear your singing voice again but behind a screen among millions, holding that guitar that fits your hands well.

"Signed, Your number one fan." Luke finished, cheeks pink but eyes cloudy as he held the letter up to eye level.

Those were probably the sweetest words anyone has ever said to him.

Everyone was silent, taken back by what was written in the note.

Mama Joy seemed confused, not putting the pieces together since she hadn't known of the situation that happened in the garage a few days ago.

But the other ones knew and they had put those puzzle pieces together quickly.

Calum closed his eyes for a few seconds, doing some breathing before he met eyes with Michael's green pair.

"Alright, it's your turn, Mike."

So I'm gonna stop it there since it's getting long but yeah this first letter wasn't as emotional but trust...yall...it's coming! Lol

So, who do yall think wrote the letter?

I'm gonna leave it at that for now and I'm gonna try to get the next chapter up sooner since they go in sync with one another.

Anyway, I hope yall enjoyed this and I'm sorry for the long wait!

Pls comment and vote because I love feedback from yall an it takea a few secs to do it :]

Love yall and ttyl ♡
