II. black and lavender

Mhina followed behind the bitter boy, hearing the soft complaints that left his mouth. If it wasn't about her 'walking too slow' or bags being 'too heavy', it was the hallway being 'too long'. She hid a giggle behind her hand, finding this situation quite humorous.

Well, she had to or else she would've punched Calum in the nose.

The boy caught her little laugh and looked over his shoulder, once again, rolling his eyes. He found the door, kicking it open with his booted foot and tossing her luggage inside.

"This one's yours. Which isn't yours it's rightful owner is my sister so don't touch anything other than the bed." The boy explained, leaning against Mali's lavender door. He thought back to when they each decided to paint their doors. They fought over the color blue since it was a mutual favorite which led to their mother forcing them with a color chosen by her, black and lavender.

The memory brought a smile to his face as he stared off into space. Mhina watched the boy, furrowing her brows.

"Are you okay?" She asked, honestly concerned for the boy. Just a few seconds ago, he was all frowned up and now he's grinning?

He quickly snapped out of it, shaking his head and frowning down at the girl.

"Yeah. Not like that's any of your concern."

"What is your problem?" She asked out of nowhere, fed up with his little grumpy act. Jeez, we get it! You had a sister, she left, and you feel there's no need for anyone other than your bitter  behind here! But now that it's been explained that I'm more than likely not going anywhere, what's the point in being a sour sara anymore?

Calum stepped closer to the girl, narrowing his eyes. "My problem is standing directly in front of me!"

"I didn't do anything to you! You barely know me-"

"And I don't plan on knowing you!"

"Why not, Calum?"

"Because it's irrelevant! You aren't my sister and you never will be."

"That's a coincidence because I don't want to be your sister!" The two had their heated back and forth, stepping closer and closer to one another until they were chest to chest. She had to tip toe in order to reach the end of his neck. He looked down at the girl, his angered expression twisted into an amused one. Maybe it was the height advantage on the girl and maybe it was the fact she was tip toeing on her small feet.

Calum leaned to her ear, tugging her waist to hold his position, whispering in her ear, "And I'll never see you as my sister." He backed from the girl, satisfied with his words, leaving her alone in the room.

Mhina let off a breath that she hadn't known she was holding, plopping down on the well made bed, sighing.

The girl was mentally and physically tired. She's been from group home to group home, then flying across the world to Australia (where they claimed to have had a more steady group home that allowed any girl from ages 17-21), to finally being signed to the Hood residence. Only to come and find out she has a son who's a butt hole.

If anyone deserved a nap, it was Mhina. So, she kicked off her shoes, not even bothering to pull the duvet over her body, falling into a deep slumber.

"Should we wake her up."

"No, look at her. She looks like a baby."

"That's creepy, mate. You would stare at a sleeping baby?"

Mhina heard voices in her sleep and she knew it couldn't have been from her dreams. She slowly opened his lids, eyes falling on the two who woke her up. Two, that she knew nothing of. As in, two strangers staring back at her as she raised an eyebrow.

One had golden hair to match his golden colored eyes, a light scuff, a nicely chiseled jaw, and a bandana tied around his head.

The other had blue eyes and a lip piercing.

The three stared each other down, mouth slightly parted but neither of them spoke. That's until the attractive golden haired boy coughed, which was a sort of attempt to break the ice. He cleared his throat and lightly smiled.

"Erm, did you sleep okay?" His attempt only made things more awkward. But, nonetheless, Mhina nodded, looking between to two boys.

"And you guys are?..." The girl didn't ask in a harsh way, she was just curious. And she just might of been more curious to find out who the golden boy was than the other.

"Oh yeah, I'm uh, Ashton." Ashton smiled at the girl, extending a muscular arm, shaking hands with the girl.

"I'm Luke." He copied Ashton's motion, pulling back to stand alongside his friend.

"So, you know our names, and you certainly don't look like Mali so who are you?" Luke smiled, looking at the girl. Mhina sat up, noticing that the cover somehow ended up over her, bringing her attention back to the standing two.

"Mhina. It's spelled like 'China' but an M not a C." She informed the boys. They both nodded lightly, Ashton actually repeating her name with a smile.

"I like it." He said, showing off his dimples. Mhina couldn't help but mimic his expression, finding his smile somewhat contagious.

There was a beat of silence that filled the air a few seconds later, that's until Mhina remembered that they were watching her sleep not too long ago. Though, she didn't mind Ashton staring that much, it was still weird.

"So, do you always watch people sleep or...?" The two chuckled and shook their heads. It relieved the girl but it confused her at the same time. Then why were they here?

"Dinner. Dinner is ready and we came to get you but you were sleep and looked so peaceful." Ashton explained, bringing a smile to the girl's lips. She had forgotten all about the spaghetti. Mhina thanked the two and stripped the covers from her body.

Luke was first to step out, then Ashton, and finally Mhina.

"Did you put a blanket over me?" She asked the golden boy. He shook his head and the girl decided to not worry about it any longer.

They made it down the hall, turning left towards the dining room. She spotted Calum and his mother, conversing over something and laughing.

Immediately, she started to feel a pit of guilt. How could she just step into this house that was already a home? I mean, the mother had two children why did she need a third? Well, technically, a third. Mhina started to feel so out of place, not like she felt in place at first, considering Calum's unwelcoming attitude.

"Mhina!" Joy's voice broke her thoughts, causing the girl to look in her direction. "Are you hungry?" She asked sweetly, holding a plate in her hand.

"I know I am. " Calum said before snatching the plate from his mom's hands. Joy attempted to smack him but he quickly moved from her reach.

"Calum Thomas!" She called out but it was too late. The boy had already stuck his fork in the plate and started eating. "I'm sorry Mhina, let me fix you another plate." Joy said, walking over to the stove.

Mhina took this opportunity to peek at the boy over her shoulder, smiling at his angered expression.

"So, Mhi where ya from?" Ashton asked, taking the seat next to Calum, smiling up at the girl. Mhina turned to the boy, one, shocked because she wasn't expecting him to ask her questions and two, he gave her a nickname. Well, it's not like she hasn't been called that before, it's just that she hasn't been called that by Ashton.

"I'm, uh, from Florida." She answered and the golden boy nodded. Calum gave his friend a confused look, probably wondering why he was even wasting his time trying to get to know the girl. Or maybe he didn't like the smile on his face whilst doing it.

"How did you end up here?"

"My mum drove her. Can you pass the parsley?" Calum interrupted, holding a hand out. He was beginning to become annoyed by Ashton's inquiry. Why did he want to know anything about her? It's not like Ashton was a man to ask questions; whenever they were in class together, he'd never ask the teacher anything, though he knew little about the assignments.

So what even was his motives?

That question was what he was left with as he watched his friend reach for the said condiment.

"You don't even like parsley but okay." Ashton replied, bringing his attention back to the pretty girl with nice eyes. Or at least that's what he thought back in her room.

"Yeah and you don't like asking questions but okay." Calum mimicked the boy's tone, glancing over at Mhina before he focused back on his food.

Ashton's manicured brows came together, obviously taken back by his friend's words. But before he could say anything, Joy came from behind the kitchen counter, calling Mhina's name.

"Thank you, Mrs. Hood." The girl took the plate from the woman's hands, giving her a genuine smile. At first, the girl thought the woman was a bit too much and smiled a bit too often but now, she's figuring out that, that's Joy. She would hug you any chance she gets, smile at you every second, and willingly do things for you. It was the complete opposite of her rude offspring.

"Call me Joy." She corrected the girl, rubbing her arm. "And you're welcome."

"Oh, well, Joy can you fix me some spaghetti?" Luke's voice sounded from beside Ashton, smiling widely at the smaller woman.

"Get it yourself, Lucas. And it's 'Mrs. Hood'." Ashton and Mhina let off a few 'ooh's' then shared a laugh. Which only became contagious, causing both the blue eyed boy and Joy to join in.

And all of this became suffocating to Calum, causing him to rise from his chair and storm upstairs. Everyone stopped and watched the boy, hearing a door slam, making them flinch.

What a drama queen, Mhina thought.
