Chapter 35

DAMON POV

"Pacing isn't going to wake her up any faster, you know that right?" Fox said as she looked over at me with her eyebrow raised. She was sitting in a grey, decorative chair on the other side of the hotel room.

"And not taking her to a god damn hospital isn't any better for her health either, now is it?" I snapped at her as I shot her a deadly glare.

"That's her rule, not mine." She said as she shrugged.

"This is ridiculous. She needs serious medical attention, not rest!" I exclaimed as I threw my hands up in the air.

"It's just a concussion from hitting her head, she's fine." Fox said sternly as she stood up and walked over to the mini fridge at the bar. "If anything, you need your rest too." Fox said calmly as she opened the door and pulled out a zip lock bag filled with ice.

I glanced at the clock: it was already midnight here, but with the constant jet lag from all this traveling, I did feel a bit exhausted. I glanced over in the other room, and saw that Angelo and Gio were passed out on the couch, Storm was asleep on a chair, and Rebel was asleep on the other bed, her arms and legs spread out completely as if she was a starfish.

"I'll be fine." I said as I ran a hand through my hair.

"Suit yourself." Fox said as she walked over to Ghost and gently placed an ice pack over a small bump on her forehead. Silence stretched between us as the tension in the air grew thicker.

"Fox, who was Ghost talking about?" I finally said in a low voice, making her sigh slightly.

"What do you mean?" She said as she stood up and stared at me with her lips pursed.

"You know damn well who I'm talking about." I said as I leaned against the wall behind me and crossed my arms. "'Fox, find the fucker who's looking for me.'" I said while making air quotes at her before crossing my arms once more.

She paused for a moment, taking a deep breath as she looked at down at the ground before looking back up at me with an annoyed expression painted across her face.

"You're gonna have to take that up with Ghost when she wakes up." Fox said sternly as her eyes narrowed. Fox never struck me as an intimidating woman. Granted, her intellect surpasses majority of people in the world, yet she had a soft, gentle demeanor to her. It seems like when it comes to Ghost, or anyone else in the crew for that matter, she was wildly protective of her friends. It made me grateful that she was this loyal to Ghost, yet it also annoyed the shit out of me that she isn't giving me the information that I need.

For some reason, I found myself overcome with uncertainty. I would be lying if I said that that phone call didn't stir some unwanted thoughts. As I looked down at Ghost on the bed, I felt... conflicted. This woman was unlike anyone I've ever met before, yet she's an enigma. Constantly one step forward and two steps back.

She's helping me and my crew for a simple favor, yet she hasn't told us what it is yet.

She's the most skilled fighter I've ever seen, yet she hasn't told me who is after her and her crew.

We spend an entire night making love to each other. Yet I don't even know her real name.

Part of me feels like I was living in a fairy tale, delusional with the idea of Ghost. The idea of this perfect, one of a kind woman. Yet that phone call rattled me to the core. Can I actually trust her? What am I to her? What is going to happen to us after this is all over?

"Take what up with Ghost?" Ghost mumbled as she opened her eyes weary. I pushed off the wall with my heel and rushed to her side. I sat down in the chair next to the bed, and grabbed her hand. As she attempted to sit up, I gently put my hand on the center of her back, and helped her.

While I was assisting her, Fox grabbed her phone, and gracefully sat down on the other side of the bed. She instructed Ghost to follow her phones movements, as she moved it side to side. Thankfully Ghost was able to perfectly, and my nerves calmed a bit after seeing her responsiveness.

"How you feeling?" Fox asked Ghost as she stood up and placed her phone in her pocket.

"Minor concussion from the initial fall. Nothing to worry about." Ghost said seriously before cracking her neck loudly. "We'll continue with our initial plan and infiltrate the nightclub. Wake everyone up." She said in a commanding tone.

"Got it." Fox said as she nodded slightly. Her eyes shifted to me, before settling back on Ghost. She quickly turned around, and gently closed the door to the room so as to not wake up the rest of the crew.

"Hey." I said softly as I gave her a small smile and stroked her hand with my thumb.

"Hey." She whispered. Her hard expression melting into an affectionate, soft one. Suddenly, my previous doubts about her started disintegrating as soon as I saw that beautiful smile of her. But the reality of the grave situation that happened hours earlier came back, rearing its ugly head into my subconscious, making me furrow my eyebrows.

"My love, it seems like we have something to discuss." I said as I felt a frown coming to my lips.

"What is it?" She said seriously as her own eyebrows furrowed.

"Who's looking for you?" I asked after a moment, hoping she won't just dodge the question like she usually does.

Silence filled the air as she looked at me. Her eyebrows furrowing further, as if she was in a mental battle with herself, a mental battle debating if she should tell me or not.

"I don't know." Ghost finally said as she looked at me with a serious expression. "Someone has been looking for me over the past year apparently. Fox just caught an IP address when she landed in London, so whoever it is... they're here." Ghost explained as her eyes hardened.

"Any clue who it might be?" I asked as I continued stroking her hand gently.

"Damon, I don't think you know how many enemies I have. Shit, I don't even know who most of them are." She said in a slightly annoyed voice, making me furrow my eyebrows. "I'm just good at disappearing, that's all." She said before taking a deep breath. I could tell that she was telling the truth because she seemed rather uncomfortable.

"... You aren't going to disappear after this is over, are you?" I asked hesitantly as I looked up at her.

"Hopefully, I won't have to." She whispered as she looked into my eyes. Usually, Ghost is a rock. Always confident, full of bravado, yet she was opening up to me... she was allowing me to see her in a vulnerable state, a rare view that I have come to cherish. But it was the look of fear in her beautiful, doe eyes that made my heart feel uneasy.

"I'll do everything in my power to keep you safe my love, you have my word." I said as I brought her hand to my lips and gently kissed the back of her hand, making her smile softly.

Even though there were unanswered questions still lingering in my mind, I decided that it would be best not to push her. It would be wrong of me to expect her to open up at such a rapid rate when she wasn't ready to, and as long as I'm around, I'll give her all the love and support she needs until she feel confident enough to let me fully in. After all, she's keeping secrets from me, just as I'm keeping a secret from her.

I didn't want to stress my blonde beauty out anymore than she already is, so I decided to not tell her about the phone call I received. Angelo might be able to give me more information on it, but until then, I'll just let her get the rest she deserves. But then my mind went elsewhere:

The journal.

The thought of the journal made my heart swell with guilt. My eyebrows furrowed, and a deep frown came to my lips as I looked at her.

"What's wrong?" Ghost asked as she tilted her head slightly and stared at me.

"Ghost, I have to tell you something." I said as I looked at her seriously. I took a deep breath, and pursed my lips.

"Boss." Rebel said as she knocked on the door, making us both look over at the white, wooden entrance to the room. The door opened to reveal Rebel in a cocktail dress, fully ready for the mission.

"Yeah." Ghost said seriously as she looked at her.

"There's been a change of plans." Rebel said as she looked at her seriously.
