(Readers POV)

I made it back to the village I live in after scavenging for some food for myself. I saw some people and they waved at me. I waved at them back and I noticed the small statue of a woman holding a plate nearby a small building. I believe it was once used as a way to give offerings to a deity for protection. I just laughed to myself. I decided to place an apple on the statue's plate. I walked over to my house and opened the front door, entering my home. I suddenly felt really hot.

(Y/N): Did I catch something while I was out?

I put all the food I gathered on a nearby table and went over to my bed. Maybe taking a nap will help me. I laid down and closed my eyes, falling unconscious.

(Void)

I opened my eyes and saw that I'm standing in a endless white void. I'm already standing up.

(Y/N): This is a weird dream.

I looked around, not finding anything. I took a step, making the noise of my foot hitting the ground echo.

(Y/N): Hello?

I started to feel like I'm being watched by something. It's creeping me out. I tried pinching my arm to wake myself, but I'm still here. A saw a bright light appear in front of me. I saw a humanoid figure appear in the light. I took a few steps, getting ready to run away.

Gaia: Do not be afraid, young one. I am not here to hurt you.

The light faded away as I saw a woman with long flowing black and white hair. She's wearing a black and white dress. I saw a golden halo above her. She looked at me.

Gaia: I am known as the Goddess Gaia.

(Y/N): Gaia? I think I heard my grandparents say that name before when I was young.

Gaia: The people of your village used to worship me for my protection, but it would appear that the people have stopped doing that. That is until you gave me that apple.

(Y/N): Wait, that actually worked?! I thought all that stuff was just superstition!

Gaia: No need to shout, but I do understand why it would be not so easy to believe.

(Y/N): Wait, why am I here?

Gaia: Normally I would not bring a human to my realm for giving me a fruit, but what is about to happen is not normal. An army of demons will soon attack the earth and I need someone to fight back. You will be assigned to this task.

(Y/N): Ok, now wait! Demons are going to attack the earth?!

Gaia: That is correct.

(Y/N): Why can't you just protect us?!

Gaia: If you can't show that a human can defend themself, then humanity is better off dead.

Wow, this woman is mean. But I guess it makes sense.

(Y/N): So how am I going to fight demons?

Gaia walked up to me and grabbed my hands. She's surprisingly gentle and her hands are soft to the touch. A bright glow came from my hands as a sword formed in my hands. It's a double edged blade that's colored white and a golden handle and the arm guard is the same shape as the halo on Gaia's head.

Gaia: I offer you some of my power. While you hold this sword, all your abilities will be increased. Take my blessings and do not disappoint. The fate of humanity is in your hands now.

She disappeared from my sight. That's a lot to put on my at once. It can't be that bad, right? I just have to fight some demons, but I have this sword with me, so it should be fine!

(Y/N): ...I can only hope.

I felt my eyes get heavy all of a sudden. I closed them and quickly went back asleep.

(Real World)

I woke up in my bed. I looked over at my table and saw all the food I scavenged for earlier. I looked down at my hands and I don't see a sword.

(Y/N): So it was just a weird dream.

I got up and stretched my body. How long was I out for? I stepped outside my house to see it's now sunset. I saw people running away while screaming.

(Y/N): What the hell are they doing?

I looked over and saw several dark creatures attacking my village.

(Y/N): No way... Are those actually demons?!

So that dream wasn't a dream after all. I don't have that sword though, so how am I going to fight demons?! I saw a demon jump at me. I put my hands up to defend myself and I felt something in my grasp. I opened my eyes and saw the sword that Gaia gave me. The demon stopped and stared at me.

(Y/N): Oh what? You scared of this?

I moved it slightly, making the demon flinch. I smiled to myself and swung my sword at the demon, cutting it in half. It's body turned to ash.

(Y/N): Woah! This sword is great!

I saw all the other demons turn to look at me. I readied the sword and dashed forward. I'm way faster than I ever was before. I cut through all the demons at once. Everyone in the village looked at me, cheering for me. I looked down at the sword in my hands. It started to glow and I can hear a voice coming from it.

Gaia: You have done well for a beginner. Continue forth on your journey.

The glowing stopped. I saw a huge explosion from several miles away. I quickly ran towards it, knowing that there are demons there to stop.

(One Hour Later)

I slashed at the last demon I could find in the forest. It quickly died and it's body disappeared. I sighed and wiped the sweat off my forehead.

(Y/N): This is very tiring.

I walked out of the forest and saw a nearby kingdom. I'll go there next, since I can probably find somewhere to rest up. I started to run towards the kingdom, but the sword stopped me and started to glow.

Gaia: Where are you going?

(Y/N): What do you mean? I'm going towards that kingdom over there.

Gaia: Trying to slack off even while you must kill demons?

(Y/N): I'm not a deity. I'm a normal person with normal limitations. You can't blame me for being tired.

The sword started to glow and I didn't feel exhausted anymore.

Gaia: There. You are now well rested.

(Y/N): Thanks... But I'm still going to where I want to go. I might find something that can help me out.

Gaia: ...Do as you please then. Sorry for stopping you.

The glowing from the sword stopped. I quickly ran into the kingdom and found myself in a market area. Some food would definitely be great to get. I saw some people looking at me, some with curiosity and others have a weird look to them, like they're being judge mental. I saw a person in a cloak and hood walk up to me.

Ixe: That's quite the sword you have there. Are you some kind of knight?

(Y/N): Kind of. It's a long story that you won't believe me.

Ixe: Please, I've heard of many unbelievable stories. I have the time on my hands.

He slowly reached for my sword. It started to glow slightly and I felt my hand twitch. Something is up with this dude. I moved my sword back away from him.

(Y/N): No touching the merchandise.

Ixe: My apologies. I don't think I would be able to touch it anyway.

What does that mean? I saw some snow falling from his hood. The hood moved up slightly, making me be able to see that it's a demon about to attack me with ice. I jumped backwards. The demon shot his ice at me and I slashed it away. The demon took of its cloak, showing off its scrawny body that's covered in frost.

Ixe: You scared of my ice?

I heard people scream in terror as they got away. I readied my sword and got ready to fight this demon. This is the first one I've found that can talk and can use something to attack with. Is this some kind of super demon?

Ixe: Aren't you going to make the first move?

(Y/N): Why are you attacking me?

Ixe: Because my master and all the other demons know the shape of the arm guard on your sword all too well. Gaia was the reason we became demons. We were banished to an evil realm and we demons want revenge, especially our master.

The demon held out his hand and shot more shards of ice at me. I used my sword to deflect them back at the demon. He waved his hand, destroying the ice shards immediately.

Ixe: I will no longer hold back on you! You clearly have her power and I will not risk anything!

He threw his hands forward as a blizzard flew around me. I tried to escape, but the high winds kept me in place. It became cold very fast. It's hard to breathe, it feels like inhaling broken glass into my lungs. My skin got colder as ice started to form on it. I fell down to my knees and couldn't do anything to get out.

(Y/N): Someone... Help...

I managed to look down as the sword Gaia gave me started to glow. Gaia herself appeared in front of me and knelt down to my level. She wrapped her arms around me. I can feel her warm embrace get rid of any cold I was feeling before. I held onto her to keep myself safe from the cold.

Gaia: You must not fail here.

(Y/N): R-Right!

Gaia disappeared. I managed to stand up and swung my sword, getting rid of the blizzard. The demon took a step back in surprise.

Ixe: How did you-

I dashed right past him and slashed his head off. His body slowly turned to dust as his dust slowly drifted off with the wind.

(Y/N): Next time, don't let demons talk about stuff. I'll just interrupt with an attack.

I saw some people come out of hiding and they started to cheer for me.

(Nighttime)

I was given a free room at an inn for killing that demon. I laid down on the bed and felt a pit in my stomach. I saw some light from behind me. I looked back and saw Gaia staring at me.

Gaia: What's wrong? I can sense something is troubling you.

I just turned back and sighed.

(Y/N): It's just... I've never been this far away from home before.

Gaia: Ah, the case of homesickness.

(Y/N): Well, it's not just that. You've tasked me to fight these demons, but I'm scared that I won't be able to do it. I'm scared that I'll fail and then I'm to blame for all of humanity dying.

Gaia: Ooohhh... If humanity dies, then there would be no one to blame you.

(Y/N): That's not funny.

I heard Gaia sigh. I felt some weight get placed on the bed and two arms held me. I got surrounded by a familiar warmth.

Gaia: Don't be scared. I picked you for this task for a reason. I have complete faith in your abilities. But if you're ever doubting yourself, you can call for me and I'll help you.

All my fears faded away from my mind. I turned around and saw Gaia looking at me. I held onto her and closed my eyes. I quickly fell asleep in her arms.

(The Next Day)

I left the kingdom with some resources on me. I tightly held the sword in my hands, which I decided to call it The Gaia Sword.

(Y/N): Hey, Gaia. Any idea where I should head to next.

The Gaia Sword started to glow as I can hear Gaia's soft spoken voice.

Gaia: There is a temple towards north. There are many special demons in that temple. It is rather dangerous, but I believe you will be fine.

(Y/N): Got it!

I started to run towards north at high speeds.

Gaia: The temple is on top of a tall mountain, so be careful not to fall off.

(Y/N): So why are a bunch of demons in a temple?

Gaia: They plan on bringing their master to this realm. I sealed him away a long time ago.

(Y/N): Should I be worried about him?

Gaia: ...You won't have to if the demons don't break his seal.

I don't like the silence she gave me before that answer. I decided to hurry up so I won't have to worry. I saw some mountains up ahead and I saw a huge temple on top of the tallest mountain. I jumped up onto the mountain and managed to land on the top. I saw some demons outside of the temple. I rushed over to them and slashed them, killing the demons. I rushed into the temple and saw three tall demons standing around a magical circle. They looked over at me.

Dako: Why is a human here?

They all saw The Gaia Sword. One covered himself in fire, one started to teleport around, and the last one froze in one spot.

Dako: So you are with her... If you wish, I will give you a painless death if you give up.

The one with fire around him said. I readied my sword for a fight.

(Y/N): I will carry out my mission assigned to me.

Dako: You are a strong willed one... Then prepare to be burned with fire as hot as the fire within the dark realm!

He shot his fire at me. I deflected it with my sword. I saw another demon teleport in front of me. I managed to block his attack and tried to attack back, but he disappeared. I ran towards the demon staying in one place, dodging fire being shot at me. I slashed at the stationary demon, but my sword went right through him and the demon disappeared.

(Y/N): An illusion?

I got kicked back and landed onto the magic circle. I saw more fire flying at me. I slashed down and got rid of the fire and I saw The Gaia Sword got stabbed into the magic circle. The circle started to glow. I got The Gaia Sword out of the circle and jumped back. A huge beam of light erupted from the circle.

Dako: The seal... It's broken!

(Y/N): It's what?!

I felt a sinister presence fill the room, freezing me in my spot from fear. The beam of light disappeared as a demon stood in the middle of it. He cracked his neck, back, and knuckles. He let out a sigh and looked around at his surroundings.

Hellmer: It's been awhile since I've last been able to roam the lands of the human realm.

He looked over at the three demons I've been fighting. The three demons all bowed down at his feet.

Hellmer: Who is the one to have freed me?

Dako: Well, it wasn't any of us, master.

Hellmer: Oh, then who is the one responsible?

The three demons pointed at me. The master demon looked back at me and smiled.

Hellmer: A human did so? I go by the name of Hellmer. I should repay your act of kindness to me. How shall I get rid of the debt to you?

He said to me. He saw the sword in my hand. A look of realization formed on his face. He laughed and raised his hand towards me, making a ball of dark energy in his hand.

Hellmer: Don't worry. As a token of my appreciation, I'll send you straight to Gaia herself.

The ball of dark energy was sent towards me. The Gaia sword moved on its own and destroyed the energy ball. Gaia appeared in front of me.

Hellmer: Gaia... We walk upon the same ground once more.

Gaia: That will not be the case after this encounter.

Hellmer: It will come to that, but I refuse to let what happened a thousand years ago.

Gaia: I hope you have been training in the realm I've trapped you, otherwise you will lose again.

Dako: You will not touch master!

The three demons jumped at Gaia. I was about to attack them, but Gaia glared at them. The demons immediately turned to ash. She didn't even need to touch them and I was having trouble with them!

Hellmer: Oh, you are getting fancy. Is it because you have an audience with you?

Hellmer pointed at me. Gaia put her arm out in front of me.

Gaia: You will not touch him.

Hellmer: Hahaha. I see how it is. You've grown an attachment to this mortal.

Gaia: Are you doing to keep talk?

I slowly stood up and got The Gaia Sword ready.

(Y/N): Before you start fighting, I'm going to take you down, Hellmer!

Hellmer laughed at me.

Hellmer: You believe that me and Gaia have been standing around and communicating? Each word we have spoken, we have exchanged several attacks to each other.

What?! They have been attacking all this time?! I felt a fist collide into my side, knocking me back to a wall. I closed my eyes from the impact and I'm about to pass out already. I opened my eyes and I couldn't see Hellmer or Gaia anymore. I tried to find them, but couldn't see them.

(Y/N): What's going on? I had no idea they were this strong.

The Gaia Sword started to glow and all my wounds fully healed and I can see Gaia and Hellmer fighting. I got up and dashed behind Hellmer. He's busy fighting Gaia, so I'm able to stab him in the back.

Hellmer: Gah! How dare you, you lowly mortal!

He punched me away. I was sent flying backwards, but Gaia went behind me and caught me.

Gaia: I don't like the idea of having you get hurt.

The Gaia Sword continued its glow and it healed me again. Each punch from Hellmer almost kills me. I got ready to continue fighting.

(Y/N): I don't care. I'm going to kill this bastard!

Hellmer: How rude. I never called you anything like that.

I looked over at Hellmer.

(Y/N): You said you owe me, so I want you to rot back to the realm you were sealed in!

I rushed over at Hellmer. I slashed at him, but he punched my sword. I slashed and cut his arm off, but his arm quickly grew back. He punched my gut, but I got healed back up. I slashed Hellmer's chest, sending him to a wall.

(Y/N): Gaia.

I quietly spoke into the sword, hoping she can hear me.

(Y/N): I want you to destroy this temple with something.

I looked back at Gaia and she nodded her head. Hellmer stood up and dark energy covered his body completely. He must be releasing his full power.

Hellmer: I will seek out my revenge! I refuse to be sealed again!

He rushed at me. I also rushed at him. The Gaia Sword started to grow brighter as I got stronger, I stabbed my sword into Hellmer's chest. The Gaia Sword started to absorb his dark energy, draining him of his power.

Hellmer: Hehe... Follower of Gaia. I once followed her too and look what she has done to me. Be warned for she can betray your trust at any moment she likes, like she did to me. I warn you to repay my debt to you.

Gaia: (Y/N)! We must leave now!

I nodded my head. I let go of the sword, leaving the sword into the demon's chest. Hellmer took a few steps back and sat down, taking a few deep breaths. I was teleported out of the temple. Me and Gaia are standing on one of the nearby mountains. I saw a giant meteor falling towards the temple. The meteor crashed down on the temple, destroying it and most of the temple.

Gaia: It is now over...

(Y/N): It is? What about Hellmer?

Gaia: That meteor knocking him unconscious, and that sword quickly sealed him away while he was unconscious.

(Y/N): Oh, I guess I saved humanity, huh?

Gaia: You have completed your task. You should feel proud of yourself.

(Y/N): Yeah...

Hellmer's words stayed in my mind. Gaia could betray me? There's no way that could happen, right?

Gaia: Why are you looking at me like that? You didn't genuinely believe Hellmer's words, did you?

(Y/N): W-What?! No, of course-

Gaia placed her hand over my mouth. She looked at me dead in the eyes, staring into my soul.

Gaia: No lie can escape me, (Y/N). Are you going to betray me by lying to my face?

I shook my head no, making Gaia stay silent for a moment before she removed her hand from my mouth.

Gaia: Now answer me truthfully.

(Y/N): Sorry. I did somewhat believe his words. It's just the way he said it, it sounded so real.

Gaia: It is understandable. He was the god of many things, one of them being deception. Know that any word from his mouth is to trick.

(Y/N): Right... Can you send me home now? Seeing as I'm done with all this.

Gaia sighed and we both teleported to my house. I looked around and saw that nothing has changed.

Gaia: After all the hard work you have done, I think a reward is an order.

A reward? I think I can ask for anything. Man what do I want? Riches? Great health for all my life? Maybe future sight? Gaia put her hands on my shoulder.

Gaia: I know the perfect reward. It's something that no one else in this world can have.

No one else can have? I wonder what that is. Gaia leaned forward and placed her lips on mine. Her lips are soft and warm. I put my hands on her hips and stayed in the kiss. Gaia stopped the kiss and looked at me.

Gaia: I will be honest. I have been lonely recently and I've wanted to have a partner. Since you need a reward for completing your task, I think we can both get something that's a benefit to us.

I felt my face heat up. I get to have a goddess all to myself?! If I told that to yesterday's me, he wouldn't believe me.

(Y/N): Are you sure you want me? I'm just a human after all. I'm sure there are some gods that are better than me.

Gaia: I do not care if you are a human or not. You defeated one of the strongest gods that existed. Still not as strong as me, but still. With our time together, I've grown an attachment that cannot be ignored by me any longer. Do you wish to accept my offer?

(Y/N): Is that even a question? Of course I accept!

Gaia: You are quite excited. I guess it shouldn't be surprising. I am a goddess after all. We are now together forever.

Gaia put her hands together and an orb of light appeared in front of her. It flew into my chest. I started to feel a little funny.

(Y/N): What was that?

Gaia: I just made you immortal. Now there is no fear of us being separated. If you wish, we can live here in your home for now on.

(Y/N): Yeah, I like it here.

Me and Gaia sat down on my bed. I thought about something and looked at Gaia.

(Y/N): So... Do you want to have children?

Gaia's face went a slight shade of pink from my question.

Gaia: We have plenty of time for that, so I think we can wait for awhile. Unless you want to that is.

(Y/N): I guess we can wait. Since I'm immortal, time shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Gaia wrapped her arms around me and made me lay down on my bed. We both laid there while Gaia surrounded me in her warmth. I wrapped my arms around her and we snuggled up into each other.

(Y/N): I never thought in a million years my life would turn into this.

Gaia: I'll be honest, me too.

(Y/N): It is-

Gaia put her hand over mouth.

Gaia: No more words. Let's just stay like this for awhile.

I nodded my head. Gaia removed her hand and tightly held onto me. I closed my eyes and embraced her presence with me.
