Chapter 4

     As I watched my mother run with my siblings, I didn't notice one of the men put something thin and tipped with a fluffy thing into a long tube thing.  I looked at the man, confused.  He pointed one end of the tube at me and pulled this tiny thingy on the bottom of it.  Something whizzed out of the tube and embedded itself in my neck.  I yelped with pain.  A second later, everything just kind of, tipped into darkness against my will, forcing me to fall asleep.

                                                                        *     *     *     *

     I slowly blinked awake.  Something was wrong.  As in,  this concrete was soft, not cold and hard.  And mother was gone, along with my siblings. And this concrete was moving.

     After a moment, full memory clicked back on.  It didn't help clarify where I was, though. I got out of where I had been sleeping,  (which turned out to be one of those fancy beds)  and discovered I was sort of in a room.  And it wasn't just the fancy bed either; the whole room was moving.  There was a sort of hole in the back of the room, covered by metal poles crossing over more metal poles.  I stood on my rear legs to see what was outside the hole.  I couldn't believe it!everything was whizzing past at lightning speed.  It kind of made my head hurt, so I ducked back to a normal standing position.

      In the far corner I found two holes in the floor.  One had water in it, so I drank a little, than stopped. This water was weird.  It was much... cleaner  than water from gutters and puddles that I usually drank from.   In the other hole, there was this mix of wet stuff and mushy half-solid stuff.  I took a small bite.  It was actually delicious.  It sort of reminded me of that half-eaten tuna sandwich, but it had kind of a  richer  taste than that.  Once I was satisfied, I went back to sleep.  What else could I do?
