Feeling the Love Tonight

Feeling the Love Tonight

A/N: Okay, I still have not seen "Trolls: World Tour" yet. But after hearing this lovely song for about the millionth time, although this time I had Trolls on the brain, I was suddenly inspired to write this teeth-rotting fluffy piece for you guys.

I guess this is also a way of saying thank you for all of those who have been amazing supporters of my first official Trolls story, "Catch a Rising Star." I probably won't update it this week or possibly even the next because I have a co-author on another story on fanfiction.net who is eager to work on the next chapter. And it's gonna be a doozy.

So until I update "Catch a Rising Star" again, this can be something new that you guys can read while you wait. At least it's something, right? So let's get on with it. And action!

**********************

Summary: Branch and Poppy just enjoy a quiet little date night, having a peaceful stroll under the stars, still basking in their new relationship that never felt so strong before.

Takes place after Trolls: World Tour.

**********************

It was a perfect and starry night in Pop Village. Things had gotten back to a new normal ever since the Rock Trolls' World Tour and the destruction of the Strings. All of the Trolls, no matter what tribe, now lived in harmony with one another after so many years.

And as a way to let other young Trolls know more about their fellow tribes, the leaders of each tribe issued an exchange student program where young Trolls, no matter what tribe they're from, can visit a specific tribe for a couple of weeks and learn about what life was like in other tribes.

However, on this night, it was not meant to be a night of exchange students studying pop music or experiencing a Pop Trolls party. Tonight, it was actually kind of quiet. There weren't any parties, no one was singing, no one was dancing. There were only the quiet sounds of the night.

And it was actually a perfect night for a nice, quiet little stroll through the moonlit forest, especially for an optimistic Troll queen and her cautious but caring boyfriend.

When Queen Poppy heard a knock on her door, just as the moon had begun to appear in the dusky purple sky, a soft but bright smile appeared on her face. She zipped over to her mirror, double-checking her attire for the occasion. She wore a simple light teal dress with her usual flower headband on her head. She made sure that her hair was nice and smooth and her bangs somewhat out of the way, before she left the mirror and then opened the door.

Branch stood there on the other side, a soft and loving smile on his face when he saw her. In his hand was a beautiful purple flower that he held out to her. Poppy smiled at him and took it, carefully placing the pretty little violet flower in her hair behind her ear.

Branch then held out his hand to her, and she took it. They then began to walk out of the village and into the forest, never letting go of the other's hand. Whether they heard it or not, soft music began to play in the background.

There's a calm surrender
To the rush of day
When the heat of a rolling wave
Can be turned away.

Branch looked over at the beautiful pink Troll walking beside him as she slightly swung their hands. He still couldn't believe that Poppy actually loved him back.

He had been in love with her for so long, even before he had regained his colors during the adventure to Bergen Town. At first, he disregarded it as a petty crush because he didn't want her to get killed because of him, and that he thought that he would never be good enough for her. But after their adventure, she became his closest friend, and his feelings for her grew into something more, something he couldn't deny any longer.

True, they couldn't be any more different. She was upbeat, positive and naive. He was more serious, a bit over-cautious and more mature. But her sunny, never-give-up personality was just one of the many things he loved about her.

An enchanted moment,
And it sees me through.
It's enough for this restless warrior
Just to be with you.

Poppy looked over at him, and this time, he didn't feel quite that embarrassed that he got caught staring at her. He could see the starlight twinkling in the depths of her magenta eyes. His smile grew wider as he lightly squeezed her hand.

Just the feeling in her warm hand in his, now knowing that their relationship had become more than friends, was enough to make his heart soar. What made it fly even higher was the small, loving smile she was giving him as she returned the squeeze.

And can you feel the love tonight?
It is where we are.
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we've got this far.

And can you feel the love tonight? (Tonight.)
How it's laid to rest?
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best.

Soon, they had arrived at a quiet little river bank, where they could see the stars perfectly. Both Poppy and Branch sat down on the ground, looking up at the hundreds of stars above them. Branch then began to show Poppy some of the constellations, drawing in the air with his finger. Poppy would giggle when he showed her some of the star pictures that were of critters, which in turn made him chuckle as well.

There's a time for everyone
If they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope
Moves us all in turn.

Soon, both of them fell into a comfortable silence as they watched the stars slowly swirl around in the night sky. Branch then pointed to a bright star in the middle of the swirling pattern in the dark blue color of the sky, saying that it was called the True North Star. He began to explain that since the star never moves from its spots while millions of other stars seemed to twirl around it in a spiral pattern, one will always know where they were going if they knew where to look. The True North Star always leads north, no matter what direction one would face, hence its name.

There's a rhyme and reason
To the wild outdoors,
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager
Beats in time with yours.

Poppy took that moment to admire her boyfriend. Boyfriend. She never thought in a million years that Branch, out of all Trolls in her village, would one day become the one that her heart beats for. Yes, she had always wondered if she would ever find true love like the kind she would read about in all of the fairy tales she had ever read. But to find it in the most unlikely person, due to Branch's gray reputation about two years ago, it was surprising.

She'll admit, she never knows what to expect when it came to the now teal-colored Troll, but every new thing that she learns about him, from his tragic past that caused him to lose his colors, to his wonderful voice that was silent for so many years, to his ingenuity and leadership skills, to his bravery and loyalty to his friends and people, to his heart that was much more caring than she could ever imagine, only made her heart swell even more for him.

Even though he was now more open with others, she felt like she was the only one who could fully read him like an open book. She never knew when exactly she fell in love with him, but when she finally realized her feelings for the survivalist Troll, it hit her like a direct blast of confetti in the face. She was already too far deep in when she set off to help him be happy again years ago, but to quote Branch and his beautiful poetry, she wouldn't mind never coming up for air whenever she looked at him. When he was by her side, she felt like she could do anything.

And can you feel the love tonight? (Tonight.)
It is where we are.
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we've got this far.

Poppy took the opportunity of the moment to rest her head against Branch's shoulder as they continued to look up at the stars, and the moon as it slowly climbed higher into the sky. In response, Branch gently placed his head on top of her, taking in her sweet strawberry bubblegum scent. Poppy on the other hand, could take in Branch's own scent of blueberry, pine, earth and the faintest kick of sweat. But that was his own distinctive scent, one that she will never change.

Just then, Poppy felt Branch slightly shift in stance. She thought that his shoulder was getting tired, so she removed her head from its comfy spot. However, she soon saw that Branch was just reaching over with his free hand to draw something in the moist dirt in front of them. His finger soon drew a perfect heart, and his soft sky blue eyes met her own magenta ones, filled with love.

And can you feel the love tonight? (Tonight.)
How it's laid to rest?
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best.

How was it possible to love someone so much? Poppy softly smiled at him, her eyes filled with equal affection. Then, she reached over with her own free hand and drew a heart right next to his. Then, she drew a crown above it, and then another one above Branch's.

His eyes slightly widened in surprise and he looked over at her to meet her eyes again. Poppy softly squeezed his hand as the silent messages between them became clear.

Are you sure, Sunshine?

I've been sure about a lot of things, but in this case, I have never been more sure about anything in my life. Not right away, though. But I just want you to always know that my heart belongs to you and only you.

Poppy then looked down briefly, making Branch tilt his head at her with confusion. Then, she looked back up at him, and the teal Troll could see the flicker of sadness in her pink eyes as she squeezed his hand as if she wanted it to be her lifeline.

I almost lost you once. I don't want to lose you again.

Branch knew that she was thinking about what had happened during their final confrontation with Barb. How he had jumped in front of a caged Poppy to save her from turning into a Rock zombie, but got changed into one himself. She had felt awfully guilty for that because before that happened, she was only listening to herself and not to anyone else, including Branch. If she had listened to him beforehand, then he might not have been changed, with glowing red eyes instead of gentle blue piercing through her very soul.

The survivalist Troll only smiled at her sympathetically and gently placed his free hand onto his beautiful queen's cheek, stroking it gently with his thumb. The message in his sky blue eyes was clear to her.

I'm not going anywhere.

Knowing that, Poppy smiled lovingly at him, which in turn made Branch smile back at her. Then, slowly, their faces began to slowly incline closer to each other, their eyes fluttering closed.

It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best.

The view soon changed to show the full moon shining down on the two of them, showing their shadows behind them. Soon, their shadows blended together, and one can tell from their postures that they were sharing a gentle and loving kiss.

A/N: What did I tell ya? I'm surprised that I didn't get cavities while writing this. But I did feel my heart leap during certain parts of this. I really hope that soon, we might see an official first date between those two.

Though I have a feeling that it's probably not going to be as mushy as this, and maybe even the Snack Pack would spy on them and try to make sure that their first date goes on without any problems, which might cause some pretty funny shenanigans. For some reason, I can totally see that happening.

The song that was playing during this was, of course, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" by Elton John. I don't own it in any way, but it is such an incredible love song, no matter how many times I hear it.

Well, I hope y'all enjoyed this. I might write some more Trolls one-shots like this sometime in the future, but I'm not sure. Probably until I get inspired again. Please leave a comment about what you think. And remember to stay healthy!

Got to fly! ;)
