I Am Not Seeing Things

I was sitting in the backseat of the car with my parents. My dad was driving, and my mom was resting in the passenger seat.

We were on the highway and coming home from one of our favorite restaurants. It would be a long drive. Over a half an hour. So I had to occupy myself for the time being.

I had always loved bringing a few of my belongings to the restaurants. Today, I brought along my 3DS and a couple of books from my favorite series called Forlot.

You would think that I would play on my 3DS or read one of my books. Most of the time, I did those things while waiting for my meal. Heck, I would read and skim the pages while I was eating!

Please do not judge me, but I love looking out the window. Even if I am seeing the same sights, I enjoy the outside world. I love seeing the sky and the trees that touch that very sky.

Sometimes when I got my parents' permission to roll down the window, I would do so and breathe in the fresh air. It was so satisfying.

Little did I know that this day would be anything but ordinary.

I was staring out the window and taking in the wonderful buildings and other sights. I had the window up and do not know why. I guess that I did not feel like the wind brushing itself against my face.

I decided to watch the vehicles that passed ours and sometimes would get a glimpse of the drivers and passengers.

This one car...I swear that I am not crazy.

The car that I am referring to was dark blue, and its windows were not tainted, so I could see through them clearly.

I could not believe what I was seeing. Actually, what I was not seeing.

There was no passenger in the passenger seat. Okay. I can get by that.

But in the driver's seat...there was no driver!

I examined the situation, hoping that it was my mind just playing with me.

But no. The driver's seat was empty, and the steering wheel was moving by itself.

As the car drove past us, I could not help but be scared. I desperately wanted to tell my parents, but I knew what they would say. That I was only thinking that there was no driver.

But I know what I saw...right?

To this day, I question about that moment. That surprising and possibly scary moment.
