Dreams Versus Reality

——————————————————————————
I was in a nervous state. Tomorrow would be the first day of school, and I was not looking forward to it.
Now, do not assume that I am one of those kids who hates school. In fact, I am the complete opposite. I love school and making and being with friends.
The problem was that I was now separated from my friends. Separated from my school that I had known and loved for most of my life.
If you have not caught on, my family and I had recently moved to another state. We were in an unfamiliar place, which meant that I would be attending a new and unfamiliar school. That was exactly why I was not excited for school.
Okay, I was excited. But I was also nervous. My stomach churned when I woke up in the morning.
Today was the big day, and there was no time to waste.
I got dressed, ate breakfast, and went to the new school. When I approached the school, I examined the building.
The first thing that I noticed was that it was bigger than my old school. I said a little prayer to myself that I would not get lost and made my way in.
Dang. Like, dang. I had just stepped inside, and there was already a bunch of students. More than my old school.
I had a piece of paper that had my locker number and unfolded it. As I was skimming the paper and walking, I accidentally bumped into another student. It was a boy, and he was not pleased that I had bumped into him.
"Watch where you are going," he warned. He held up a fist. "Or else."
I immediately looked up from my paper, and my body shook in fear.
"S-sorry," I stammered. "I-I promise that it will not happen again."
I was backing away when I bumped into another boy. He reacted the same way towards me just like the other one.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" He punched his fist into his palm and smirked. "You must be a new student."
This time, I was careful to not back into any more boys and moved away from the two boys.
"I am so sorry. I will not bother either of you ever again."
I heard someone whistle and turned my head to the left. There was a group of boys who were all looking directly at me.
The boy in the front was grinning at me and had his arms crossed. "Look, boys. It is the new kid."
His friends howled like wolves in response.
"C-can I help you?" I asked.
"Why, of course," the boy in front replied. "I am the leader of this gang, and we have been searching for a new member. Usually, we do not allow girls..." He walked up to me and brought his face close to mine. "...but I will make an exception."
I had a bad feeling about his gang and started walking away. "I am not interested. Sorry. Ah!" I felt fingers and a thumb wrapping around my arm and pulling me back.
The boy was now frowning. "What did you say?"
"I-I said that I am sorry. I-I am not interested right now."
"Oh? And why is that?" He grabbed my other arm and pushed me up against the lockers. "Do you think that you are too good for us?"
I choked out a whimper. I was scared for my life.
"Answer me! Do you think that you are too good for us?!"
I had the urge to scream and eventually did.
That was when I found myself sitting up in my bed.
"Huh?"
My entire body was drenched in sweat, and my hands were shaking. I breathed heavily.
"What...?"
I checked my calendar that was hanging on my wall - and came to the realization.
I had not attended the first day of school. I was not supposed to leave for three more hours.
It was a dream. All of it. Just a dream.
I breathed out a sigh of relief and was about to go back to sleep when I felt pain.
Curious to know what was causing the pain, I climbed out of bed and headed to the bathroom.
As I got out of my bed, I noticed the sweat stains.
Gee.
I made it to the bathroom, turned on the lights, and examined my reflection.
I wanted to scream. I wanted to cry out to my mother and father.
I slowly raised my arms. On them were these blue and black finger marks.
