FOUR. letting go is sometimes the best thing to do
THE CAST and crew had been on set for the past couple of days and though the Love Club had a bigger role this season, it still meant a lot that August put her best foot forward.
She sat next to Josh at the piano mumbling some lyrics to herself as she played the song.
She had been asked to write two songs for the show and though she took the opportunity with open arms, it was still a very scary thing for her to do.
For now, she was trying to finish the song Let You Go that would be sung by Josh and she wanted it to be absolutely perfect.
"Can you start singing from here?"
Josh could tell that this really meant a lot to August. This whole show kicked her into a world of stardom that she hadn't really been prepared for.
She had been signed to a record label, been set as one of the main cast members of the show, and had people make fan (and hate) accounts for her. She had become this "it girl" that people either loved, hated, or envied.
It was almost as if she was following in the path of her character Shiloh Molina. But of course, she couldn't spoil what was going on with her character that season.
All of that to say, August felt like she wanted to pay the show back by giving them something. A song or two wouldn't hurt and when Tim approached her about writing a song for season two, she was agreed with no hesitations.
Josh cleared his throat and shimmied his shoulder causing the girl to smile and chuckle as she pressed her fingers against the keys.
"Now I've gotta let you go. I'm pickin' up pieces left and right, now that our hearts are both untied; it'll take time, it'll take time. No one can say we didn't try? I'll think of these days all my life; it'll take time, it'll take time."
August took a deep breath and moved her hands onto her lap.
"What?" Josh chuckled, nudging her shoulder, "I think it's great."
"You're my boyfriend. You're supposed to say nice things to me."
"Even if I wasn't your boyfriend, it would still be a great song, Gus."
August gave him a small smile and rested her head against his arm. He moved slightly to wrap his arms around her and kiss the top of her head.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Is there pressure for you to drop new stuff from your label?" She asked.
Josh had been dropped his self-titled EP along with a film with him singing his songs.
"Yeah. All the time." He answered, "What do they want from you?"
"Anything. And I have stuff I just" She sighed, taking a slight pause, "I feel like people are expecting so much from me. I mean, people are talking about all the awards and I haven't released an album yet."
August and Olivia had been nominated for several awards for their respected songs. If one didn't win the other did.
August had beater Olivia out of three American Music Awards, while Olivia had taken home two Video Music Awards.
People were waiting on August to drop something. It could be the next SOUR they simply didn't care and neither did her record label.
The couple sat in a beat of silence before Josh stood up and grabbed something out of his bag. He sat back down next to August and began flipping the pages of his notebook.
"It's not completely done, but it's what I have so far." He smiled, "I think it's gonna be called Feel Something, but that's just an idea."
Josh handed the book to August and watched as a small smile grew on her face.
"Pull my hair and kiss my head and we'll get high." She read with a smile, "Is this what your into Bassett?"
Josh chuckled as August read over the song.
"I love it."
"You're my girlfriend. You're supposed to say nice things to me."
August smiled and handed the book back, "I love it, really."
"Can't release though."
"Why not?"
Josh sighed and stood from the bench; August turned to face him.
"It's not the "Joshua Bassett" they know. They want something like Anyone Else or Only a Matter of Time."
"How is this different than Lie Lie Lie?" August asked.
"That song is surrounded by rumors while this song is something fun. It's about me and my friends and you and-"
"Me?"
Josh smiled, "I could write songs about you all day, darling don't underestimate me."
August sent him a small smile before standing.
"So, the only thing stopping you from releasing this song is-"
"My label." He answered, "I promise I understand what your going through, Gus. Whether they like it or hate it, which I doubt, you know what's best for you and your career."
August held her lips in a fine line and wrapped her arms around his torso.
"Why are you nice to me?" She asked.
"I'm I supposed to mean to you?"
"I heard bullying works."
