IT WAS odd. She knew that Josh had said it would only be the two of them on set... but were they early? The film crew hadn't arrived yet and Tim was nowhere to be seen.
August had slipped her blue dress back on and actually wore the appropriate shoes this time.
She stepped out of her trailer and received a text from Josh asking her to meet in the club room.
Once she arrived, she pushed the door open and saw the tacky fairy lights light up the room and Josh standing bin the center with a even tackier corsage in his hands.
"August... will you do me the honor and allow me to take you to your fake Homecoming?"
"What is this?"
Josh held his small smile and approached her, "I think you should've had the Homecoming you deserved and I want to be able to give you that."
"Why are you doing this?"
"You deserve-"
She smiled, approaching him and looking down at the flimsy corsage, "Josh. Why are you doing this? I'm no different than any other girl who had a bad experience at a dance. What's the catch?"
Josh took a breath in and grabbed August's hand, putting the corsage on her wrist.
"No catch. Just me and you having the best night of our lives... or until someone catches us on set."
The two of them shared a laugh and August glanced down at the flower on her wrist. It was a pretty shade of blue that almost matched the color of her dress.
While she was distracted, Josh went to change the song to something a little more formal.
August looked up and saw Josh holding his hand out.
"You have to sing." He smiled.
"I'm not Gabriella, Mr. Bowen." She joked.
"Angel said you two danced all the time."
"We had the same dance teacher growing up."
"Then I'll assume that you already know the steps." He said, taking her hand, "No Ricky and Shiloh. No Troy and Gabriella. It's just you and me and the music."
"Fine, but know that the music really is your guide on this one."
The two of them shared a small laugh as the build of the music began to sound throughout the room.
"Okay, now you've gotta sing." He smiled.
"You first we're already passed her part."
"Take my hand, I'll take the lead and every turn will be safe with me. Don't be afraid, afraid to fall. You know I'll catch you threw it all."
August smiled, a smile giggle leaving her mouth as Josh dipped her down.
He could barely stand on his own two feet sometimes, but he wasn't going to mess this up for August.
"It's like catching lightning the chances of finding someone like you. It's one in a million, the chances of feeling the way we do. And with every step together, we just keep on getting better." They harmonized.
The two of the trailed off into fits of laughter as Josh picked her up and spun her around.
The laughs soon died down as he placed her back on the ground.
August had pretty eyes. They could easily be missed because of the fake glasses she wore.
Josh could feel himself getting lost in them as the two of them sang the final lyric and the music drew to a close.
It became silent in the room and the two could only stare at each other.
Josh didn't now if his mind moved first or if his head, but he soon found his lips hovering over hers and if either one of them moved-
They both knew that Josh moved to kiss her first, but he never got to kiss her.
Her phone rang from the couch and she quickly detangled herself from him.
Josh awkwardly cleared his throat and unplugged his phone from the AUX cord that it was connected to.
"I'm sorry that was Angelina. She has this huge audition thing and they moved it up and-"
"It's okay, Gus."
She sighed, "Thank you. This is the nicest thing someone has done for me. It's a Homecoming I'll never forget." She joked.
Josh held his small smile and nodded slightly.
"I'll just call a Uber or something. I'm sure you have to get this all taken down before tomorrow."
"Right."
She waved him goodbye and quickly leave the club room only to return seconds later.
She gently grabbed Josh's face with one hand. turning it slightly and kissed him on the cheek.
She left him with that and a blush that rose to his cheeks.
They were smitten about each other and didn't know if they were ready to push that boundary just yet.
