Dixie

May

A month after Noah picked her up and things are normal. Well, as normal as things could be.

She finds herself waking up. Opening a window, she's been longing for spring and to smell the fresh flowers that it would bring. She was getting restless in that endless winter.

She ran outside, smiled up at the sky, and basked in the sunlight. She'd always loved spring.

Dixie ran back inside, grabbed the book she's been reading, and went back outside, to sit on the porch swing and read in the heat.

She's so caught up in her novel that she doesn't see or hear when someone speaks up.

"Hey Dixie." A voice says, causing her to jump at least 7 feet in the air and lets of a little yelp.

She looks at the voice and is meet with brown eyes, Elijah.

DIxie smiles. "Oh hey, sorry."

He smiles back at her. "I didn't mean to startle you."

"Its okay, I should pay more attention but I was reading." She laughs. "How'd you find me?"

He comes close, "I asked around, its a small town so I figured someone had to know. I was going to ask you if you maybe, uh..." Elijah goes silent, face turning red.

Dixie laughs. "Ask me if I maybe what?"

Elijah takes a deep breath. "Ask you if maybe you want to go on a date with me."

Dixie considers it. He's nothing like Noah, in fact, he's the opposite. She doesn't know how she feels about Noah, but she knows he's denying whatever he feels about her. Or at least, he's trying to. And there's no harm in going on one little date with Elijah, after all, he's really not that bad looking either.

"Sure, I'll go on a date with you." Dixie says, nodding her head and smiling.

Elijah smiles, his face lighting up. "Really? That's amazing. So does tonight sound good? I have to work the rest of the week, I got a job at Ray's hang out."

"Yeah, what tine should I be ready?" She gets up and walks over to him."

"How about I pick you up at 7:30?" He ask's casually putting his hands in his pockets.

"Sounds good." Dixie says,

"Okay well see you tonight." Elijah waves and walks away.

After he leaves, Dixie walks inside and sits on the couch. Should she really be doing this? Should she really be going on a date with a boy, while she doesn't know how she feels about blue? She tells herself that he wouldn't care, there's no reason for him to care, hell, he's hardly friends with her anyway, Why would he care? More importantly, why should she care if he cares? She's allowed to go on a date.

Just as she starts to really overthink, her dad walks through the door unexpectedly, he's home early from work.

"Hey pumpkin!" He says as he walks in and spots her on the couch,

"Hey dad!" Dixie says, getting up to hug him. "You're home early. Something go right?"

Her father is an obstetrician, he helps women deliver babies safely at the hospital. It's kind of a weird job for a man, but it doesn't bother Dixie. Earlier this morning he was called in on an emergency, a woman wouldn't go into labor without having him there specifically, she wouldn't allow any other doctor to help her, just her father.

"Yeah, she tried to remain calm, it didn't work out so well at first," He says shrugging and hugging her quickly. "She gave birth in under 5 hours though, so thats a bonus. It was a boy. She and her husband named it Jack. Just another day in the ward."

"Oh well I'm glad you're home early." She says smiling, "I have a date tonight."

Ever since her mother left, her dad has tried filling in for her mom, and he's done the best he's could, but they both knew he could never replace mom. As much as father tried, there was still a piece of her missing.

But still, he tried. "That's great honey! I guess that means it's just me for dinner, Don't stay out too late, it may be a Saturday but that doesn't mean you can come back late."

"Of course, dad"

He gave her a kiss on the forehead and went off.

A few hours later, Dixie is standing in front of hr closet, debating what to wear, And also, thinking about how she got here. Standing in front of her closet getting ready for a date with Elijah West, top of the class in grades. She'd been helping him with his application to Stanford awhile now, but she can't help but wonder why the boy with the best grades in the school asked for her help of all people  to help him with his application.

Not knowing what to wear, she whips out her phone and texts Elijah.

Dixie: So what the hell am i supposed to wear anyways?

Eli: Something casual, comfy

Looking at her closet and shrugging, she grabs a pair of simple blue blue jeans and throws them on, noticing its a bit cold out even though its spring, she grabs a black sweater so she wont get cold. Noticing her hair doesn't want to function right, she throws it into a simple ponytail.

Just has she was about to slide on her favorite pair of Ugg's, the doorbell rings.

"Dad! Can you get the door? I'll be right down!" She yells, grabbing her Uggs and putting on both shoes while attempting to run down the stairs.

Dixie spots her father staring down Elijah, the poor guy. Her dad isn't intimidating, hell, he couldn't be intimidating even if he tried, but right now Elijah is looking pretty scared.

"Hello, sir. I'm here to pick Dixie up." Elijah says, as polite as he can. Dixie smiles.

"It appears so. I want her back no later than 11:30. Got that?" Her dad says, seeing how Elijah will react. She knows he's trying not to laugh at how scared Elijah is.

She appears behind him. "Hey, Eli." She smiles at him.

Eli blushes. "Hey, Dixie. Ready to go?"

She nods and turns back to her dad to give him a kiss on the cheek. "Bye, dad. I'll be home 11 soon."

Her father nods, and looks at Elijah. "No later than 11:30."

"Yes, sir." She turns to Elijah and takes his hand, intertwining her fingers with his as they walk to his car. He opens the door for her and she gets in.

He walks around to the driver's side and starts the car.

"So, what are we doing?" Noah asks, looking up at Elijah. There's probably a good 7-inch height difference between them, and he looks at her.

"How does pizza sound? I know, it's no fancy restaurant and candlelight dinner but I thought we'd keep it casual and simple." Eli says, looking a little anxious.

"Sounds amazing. And perfect." She smiles at him and he visibly relaxes. He takes her hand and leaves one hand on the wheel and it gives her butterflies, something she normally gets around Noah, but it's the first time she's felt this way around Elijah. It's unusual, but strangely enough, she's not bothered by it.

When they get to the only pizza place in town, Elijah opens the door of his car and helps her get out. He takes her hand again as they walk towards the door.

Just as they're about to go in, Dixie steps in front of the door to open it but all the sudden it swings open quickly and she runs into a tall person.

They thud together chest to chest, but because the person is so big, they nearly knock her over. She'd surely have fallen if the stranger hadn't steadied her after they bumped into each other.

"Hey man! Watch where you're---" Elijah starts but suddenly stops when he realizes who just ran, literally, into Dixie.

She finally notices Noah too. She looks up at him as he looks between her and Elijah, and he seems to get increasingly more and more frustrated. All the sudden, before she could even say anything, he lets go of her abruptly and walks away quickly.

Dixie is in too much of a shock to say anything as she just watches him walk away in the warm May night.
