The Last Two Standing | Chapter 1

"What is it about this word that describes everything in life, when it comes to the worst things to exist this phrase describes the traumatic experience that only one person can understand, No one handles the same type of fear, some people have the fear of others and what they might say or perceive you as, but some may have the phobia of heights instead, while no one will ever know the exact feeling of everyone's terror we can only assume that what they feel inside is genuine. There are many different types of ways that people have expressed fear through body movements or facial features contorted to represent their unease. For example, there are the people who are overcome by fear, petrified as goose bumps make their way up their arms, icy shivers down their spine silent horror gripping them, heart pounding in their chest like it's bound to spontaneously detonate, never knowing if this dark everlasting black hole consuming them is ever going to let go"

"And there are the people who run away from their fears, like propelling a desperate marathon hoping to reach the end trying to deny there is no  finish line they can escape to" "Then the last human reflex are the people in this universe most likely end up being the most successful, they are the ones who face their fears, find a route overpower it leading into the future without doubt".

"Those are the people who succeed but not all of us can be as courageous as them" "some of us are trapped in this never-ending cycle knowing all your fears are never going to go away forever watching over you paralyzed unable to breath or bring yourself together to take that one big step" Daisy read. She had been asked to clarify her thinking of what the word fear meant. Only just walking into the clean, neatly painted, white, vanilla scented, trophy filled classroom at her new school indulging in her first subject of English.

Mr smith had just observed someone's perspective of what the word fear meant, then as she sat in her small wooden sturdy desk he had the audacity to ask her what the word meant. Never having a specialty at public speaking, she began to shut her eyes tightly embracing the rising anxiety almost biting her lips enough to draw blood, she began to open her mouth slowing standing up and getting through it. The teacher appeared to be intrigued at her interpretation of such, evidently only having students give half-assed short comments. Letting out a shaky breathe she slowly sat down red blush of embarrassment now contoured all over her face not due to being happy that people liked it but instead because she was scared up there, trembling I her skin.

It was enough moving to a whole new state, new house, new school, new people. But to do this on her first day, already taking to stress of settling into a foreign environment she had to take the stress of everyone gazing at her with eyes of malice waiting for her to mess up so they could laugh, the teachers wanted her to look like a fool. Well, perhaps that's just what was going on in the mind of self-doubting person worrying over things being worse than they are in reality, as she settled back down, her face started to cool off all the thoughts slowly drifting out of her head replaced by pointless daydreaming "I hope everyone is excited about the camping trip next week. Now has everyone besides Daisy, handed in the forms" the teacher excitedly announces, clapping his hands eyes scanning the room for anyone in late due of their form. Daisy's heart dropped the last thing she needed was a trip that would bind her to all these unknown faces, it's just a lame excuse for teachers to get a week of not having to deal work.

The bell rung to symbolize lunch time in which Daisy would await to sit alone as everyone stared. Yet, this didn't seem to be this case as she caught the attention of the girl known as the sports addict. Bonnie Valdez, an athletic girl adorned with gorgeous short dark hair that framed her stunning face captivating her silvery grey eyes. Introducing herself Bonnie walked up to her a hand placed on her hip with a confidently smug smile forming it's way on her lips as she looked down at Daisy through her eyelashes "Bonnie Valdez, you must be the new girl" she spoke with a mischievous tone. "Yeah, I am" Daisy replied shyly outstretching her hand out to shake, however the mysterious girl walks away in return smiling while looking back at her. Bonnies shinning fluffy hair waved in the wind, those beautiful metallic eyes locked Daisy's attention quickly, that smile capable of causing a explosion.

It was like she was in a deep trance; all that filled Daisy's mind was the perky smile she gave her, was she perhaps flirting? the thought circulated a deep blush into her cheeks once again but then another intrusive thought made her feel cold, was it because she did not like her? Was she trying to be rude? All these sudden degrading thoughts came rushing through her instantaneously. But what was most troubling was deciphering her next action 'I have never felt this way, why am I feeling like this over a girl?! do I just want to be friends and am getting confused?' Daisy whispered to herself confusion fighting way between the heteronormative environment she grew up in and this newfound desire.

Shaking off these thoughts she began to ponder on somewhere to sit in the daunting cafeteria, there were so many different types of groups filling the complex. First there were the stoners (never go near them), the sport junkies (always take a game WAY to far) and of course the nerds (most likely to end up being business owners), "the boys" (the devils work I swear), pick me girls(the dreaded female monsters), sad emo's (pretty self-explanatory), rebels (have their own permit seats in detention) then the group that peaked Daisy's interested with hanging with, outcasts (always picked last in a team for sports) . In that group is her cousin Lilly who had previously invited Daisy to hang out with them she said daisy could hang out with them. However, if the group is anything like her oh boy I will have my work cut out. She is the strangest creature, but she really is the funny type, that is why I love being with those types of people, you will never get have to waste your time looking at makeup, doing endless study, or even not playing by the rules. Those things get you nowhere in life, at least that's what dad said before he...." Tears formed in her eyes refusing to let them drop after just thinking about her father. He had died a month ago, he was the one person she had in this life the one thing she needed to get by. His demised is the cause as to why Daisy had to move to this weird place to move in with her cousins. Unable to let him go her father somehow appeared everywhere she looked, billboards, books, tv's, school. Every time she even saw a glimpse of hope that her dad was alive, it all came crumbling down like the twin towers. It was never him, just some stranger living their long happy lives, unlike her father. People take life for granted, you should enjoy life while you are still here, watch that movie, run in the rain, get into trouble, try that dress on, kiss that person you like, have parties, make mistakes, in the end we all die so who cares live life to the fullest.

As much as Daisy was dreading camp, it was coming around the corner rapidly. But at least she had some friends, over the first three days of starting school however school camp was only two days away and she was still terrified about it, she stood by letting her thoughts wonder to the pointlessness of school camps, "pushing you to be the best you can" yeah right more like pushing yourself to the edge of the boat, making you tip and drown in the water. Made to sleep with complete strangers in a tiny tent in the middle of now were, do vigorous activities for the benefit of who knows, but the worst of all having to eat slops like a pig and the all and mighty "teachers" get to have beautiful morning coffees, smooth fresh toasted bread with sweet strawberry jam.

4:30am read my alarm clock, it was camp day.  The dreaded day had begun. Pitch black dark outside, icy wind glazing over exposed skin sending shivers all throughout your body. Forcing her eyes to stay open through lack of sleep. As everyone started file in to the meeting grounds the teachers gathered us up into seating plan for the bus ."Bonnie Valdez and Daisy Willows" "You two are at seats 40-41" Mr smith yelled out across the yards of kids gathered. Daisy's heart dropped, this deep aching pain in her stomach, a swelling feeling coming from her throat, there was no doubt that Daisy was beginning to develop crush on Bonnie, unlike what she had been brought up with the rule that only men and woman could be together, she wanted something different.

Well it was more so she had no choice but to be different. It was difficult for her to really accept what was happening, she knew she was different to the other girls, talking about boys and how they all wanted to be saved by a prince, what if she wanted to save the princess or she would be saved by one. It never sat right with her the whole you must find a man to look after you ,I don't need a 'man' to look after me, but maybe I do want a girl to look after and her to do the same.

After yelling out all the kids assigned bus seats it was time to get on. Daisy said her farewells to her friends for the last time then hopped up onto the bus, carrying her overpacked bags up those annoying large stairs was a hassle specially when 20 odd kids are behind you telling "go faster" or "take your time bud". Finally getting up the stupid stairs it was time to find her seat..... seat 41 was Daisy's perfect seat right next to the window with the joyous addition that she could take a nap without anyone knowing. As she put her luggage under her seat, footsteps neared as Bonnie arrived at her seat with those stunning eyes piercing her own once again. She placed herself in the bus seat sliding her bags under then put the seatbelt on. "I see you have appeared to have settled in well" Bonnie teased.

"yeah I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone" Daisy remarked. "It can be tough moving around places specially in the higher grades, everyone kinda has their place, where they belong" Bonnie observed. "Yeah, it  really was hard at first to fit in to the group but when they got to know me, they really found it enjoyable to be around me" Daisy told her genuinely. "I totally understand. Anyway, I have this hit music play list on Spotify would u like a to listen?" Bonnie offered.

"Absolutely" Daisy almost leaped out of her, eager to accept her newfound crush's offer. Bonnie gave daisy one of her airpods, then got her phone out to press play on her "hit" play list. As soon as the lyrical melody entered her ears Daisy's heart pounding within her chest beating faster and faster. Girl in red, the wlw anthem 'I wanna be your girlfriend'.

"Do u listen to girl in red?" Bonnie's gaze locked to her own, knowing the implication of the cliche comment she nervously replied not being able to hold back stutters "Uh-umm-yeah" Daisy was breathless. "does this mean what I think it means? is Bonnie interested in me too? "I thought so, no straight girl looks that pretty" Bonnie Joked leaving Daisy a blushing mess unable to come up with anything to say.  They both sat in their seats listening to girl in red, as time flies by Bonnie slowly lolls down to Daisy's shoulder as drowsiness consumed her not even realising her position as she slept. Daisy felt every nerve of her body come to life with a sensation close to feeling like she was floating. Unable to calm down theses flustered thoughts, she retreated into sleep herself resulting in them falling into a not-so-platonic-looking position.

The world began to fade out and all that was known where each others scents. Loosing track of time, after what seemed to be hours I pried open my drowsed eyes, I gazed upon my surroundings only to feel a jolt of unease.

No one.
