14 ➳ THE DAY WILL COME

"WHAT? Was the joke that bad?" Negan taunted, kneeling in front of Rick with a bloodied Lucille in his hand.

We were all shivering, crying, and on the verge of having no breath left in any of us. I felt like I was going to puke everywhere from my panic cries and breathing.

"I'm gonna kill you," Rick murmured, finally threatening Negan. He was asked to repeat himself. "Not today, not tomorrow... But I am going to kill you."

Negan scoffed at the threat and spat out, "Je-zus." Then, he chuckled softly, turning to look at Simon. "Simon, what did he have, a knife?"

Simon replied almost immediately, "Uh, he had a hatchet."

"A hatchet? He had an axe," Negan corrected, adjusting himself. "Simon's my right-hand man. Having one of those is important. I mean, what do you have left without them? A whole lot of work." A pause, then: "Do you have one? Maybe one of these fine people still breathing? Oh." He paused and chuckled lightly, signaling to the dead body. He clicked his tongue and sighed loudly. "Or did I...? Sure. Yeah. Give me his axe."

With that said, Simon did as he was told to do and handed Rick's axe to Negan, who then shock us all when he suddenly picked up Rick and began to drag him to the RV.

"I'll be right back," Negan called back to everyone. We all shifted and jumped when Rick was being carried away from us. "Maybe Rick will be with me. And, if not, well... We can just turn these people inside out, won't we? I mean the ones that are left."

"Rick!" I screamed out his name and reached forward to touch him, somehow. I couldn't reach him or even the person that had just died, too.

"Let's go for a ride," Negan said to Rick, shoving him right in the RV as he stepped inside after him. Then, with time, they took off.

Then, we were all left there together... Minus two, which was without Rick and the deceased.

"Make sure those guns don't go anywhere," Glenn called out to Maggie and myself. "Rick wants the small guns in this container and the bigger ones in this one. Got it, ladies?"

"Yes, sir," Maggie taunted with a smile.

I cracked a grin, too. "Aye-aye, captain," I agreed, with the hand-signal from my forehead out.

He smiled and winked, which I believe was aimed at both of us. His wife and new friend, so I don't blame him. He turned his back on us and began to walk away, eventually disappearing. As he left us, we kept on doing what we were told to do by separating the guns for Glenn and Rick.

I heard footsteps and noticed that it was Abraham and Sasha, who came up to our carts. "What are y'all doing?" Sasha asked, eyeing us. "Separating the guns?"

"Yeah, Glenn said to do it for Rick," I told her with a shrug, eyeing her just as she was had with us. "You gonna help?"

Sasha sighed and rubbed the back of her neck. "Maybe," she shrugged, picking up a simple pistol. "How about this? I'll do this if you go on look-out with Abraham. Hes getting on my nerves..."

Abraham stood there and laughed. "I heard that..."

Without looking back at him, Sasha shrugged with a grin. "Yeah. I know."

I thought about it and seen the look on Abe's face, who was nodding with a smile. "Oh, what the hell?" I sighed with my own shrug. "Sure! We don't ever get to do anything together, so why not?"

"Thanks," Sasha smiled with a slight nod towards me.

I squeezed Maggie's shoulder before I made my way around the carts to Abraham. He looked down at me and nodded. I shined my pistol at him and that is when he shook his head again.

"Nah, nah," he suddenly said, shaking his head. "You need something bigger if you're going to be on the look-out with me."

I cracked a smile and placed my hands on my hips. "What would you suggest, sir?"

He nodded, cracking another grin, before he picked up a nice rifle for me to use instead. "Here you go," he said with a smile. "You can handle this... Right?"

I cracked a smile as well and, with a nod, I took the rifle. "Well, yeah," I agreed and looked up at him.

"Then, good," he chirped and we began to move, leaving them behind. We walked and didn't talk until we were up on the post, guarding this place.

We got up there and I could feel the wind more than I did behind the walls. I looked out and there wasn't much to see at all, including no Walkers to bother us, neither. This is what I found to be peaceful the most.

So far, today had been very beautiful. The sky was painted blue with a few clouds spotted here and there, but the sun wasn't exactly burning any of us up, either. Overall, today was a good day.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, taking in the smell that actually didn't stink for once. Slowly, afterwards, I began to open my eyes and faced forward.

"You think we'll beat those Saviors?" Abraham suddenly asked me, pulling me away from my current happy thoughts. He was on my right side, eyeing me from there.

I didn't want to face him straight-on, so I lowered my head a little bit and sighed. "I have no idea, to be completely honest with you," I truthfully answered, even if it's not what he wanted to hear. "I really hope so, though, Abe."

From the corner of my eye, I could see him smirk, so that's what made me glance over there at him. "What?" I asked with an innocent shrug.

He grinned and chuckled, "Oh, nothing." I kept on glaring at him until he would budge. Finally, he sighed loudly, but kept on smiling. "It's just that... I've never heard you call me that. And, for that matter, we just don't see each other a lot."

I nodded and agreed, "Well, yeah. We always have different things that we have to do, sadly."

I felt bad and it was mostly because that I don't see anybody as much as I do with Glenn and Daryl. I also considered Maggie and Sasha my friends, too. Even young Carl. Abraham was just a decent good guy that everybody needs in their life to keep around for the good times and laughter.

"I'm sorry," I decided to apologize instead. "We should hang-out more. Me and you."

"Yeah," he agreed with a smile."We should."

———

WE are still kneeling as Negan allowed Lucille to wander around to each of us, waiting on the final word to be delivered. Who was it going to be?

"It," Negan finally said, his first kill of the night being revealed. "Anybody moves, anybody says anything, cut the boy's other eye out and feed it to his father and, then, we'll start."

I finally found the will to open my eyes after silently praying that a miracle will be spared for my friends. Almost like it was in slow-motion, I slowly opened my eyes one by one and looked to my side, but not before I spotted Negan down between Maggie and Daryl.

I held my breath, shaking like crazy, as I gulped. No... No... No... Please no!

"You can breathe. You can blink. You can cry. Hell, you're all gonna be doing that..."

Abraham flashed a final peace-sign to a devastated Sasha, before Negan stroke Lucille down on his head. "Suck. My. Nuts," Abraham bravely managed to mutter out, blood dripping down his face.

Everybody began to scream and cry, including myself. I wanted to take all of their pain away.

Negan paused to mock Abraham's last words, laughing it off. "Did you hear that? He said, 'Suck my nuts!' Phew!"

At this point, time seemed to freeze in place. It all happened so quickly, but so slowly, too. His death was what was so slow to take in and to watch, but time was only going to go so fast before it was time to go.

"Ho! Ho!" Negan chanted, sizing up with him. "Look. At. That." I couldn't even see by this point with all the crying that I was doing as I lunged forward, settling on my hands and knees. "Taking it like a champ!"

Negan came down on him with Lucille. He wasn't impressed this time whatsoever. We all screamed and cried even louder with each hit that was delivered to the brave ginger. Lucille just kept going with Negan, killing one of my close friends right in front of me. Again and again.

Abraham was dead. He was gone. We lost him before we could say our official farewells to him, but Negan wouldn't give us the chance to. He believed that killing us one-by-one would be better in the long run for himself.

"Oh, my goodness! Look at this!" Negan raved, holding up Lucille with pride, which is now covered all in Abraham's blood and brains. There was nothing left of him. Abe was gone and I cried like I have never done before. "You guys, look at my dirty girl! Sweetheart, lay your eyes on this!"

For a moment, it was silent other than all of our cries and screams together. I lunged forward again, placing my hands out there as they slipped and I fell forward. I brought my dirty hands to the sides of my head, running them through my hair. "No, no, no," I whined as I tried to keep it together. I couldn't. The pain of losing Abraham too much to bare and to contain at the moment. "Abe! Oh, my gosh!"

I looked up to see Negan has now stepped in front of Rosita, noting her extreme terror and anguish. "Oh, damn," Negan sighed loudly, then smiled from ear to ear. "Were you— Were you two together?"

Rosita remained quiet as she continued to mourn the death of her ex-boyfriend. "That sucks. But, if you were, you should know there was a reason for all this. Red — and hell, he was, is, and will ever be Red. He just took one or six or seven for the team! So, take a damn look..." He paused and his breathing was shaking. "Take a damn look!"

Enraged, Daryl suddenly leaped up, punching Negan in the face. "Daryl! No! Oh, no," Rick called out, which only made me cry even more.

"Not him!" I screamed with all that I have left. "Daryl, no!"

Chuckling, Negan straightened himself up just as Daryl was subdued by two Saviors, one being Dwight, himself. "That? Oh, my! That is a no-no. The whole thing — not one bit of that shit flies here."

Dwight has the crossbow pointed directly at Daryl's head and asked Negan, "Do you want me to do it right here?"

"No," Negan grunted and shook his head in disagreement. "No, you don't kill them — not until you try a little. And, anyway, that's not how it works." We all held our breaths, waiting on his final decision. To my surprise, Dwight is made to drag Daryl back into line.

Now standing in front of Glenn, Negan was now back to being fully serious. "Now, I already told you people — first one's free, then — what'd I say? I said, I would shut that shit down, no exceptions!"

I gulped, looking up at him before my eyes met with Glenn's scared orbs. "I... I love you," I mouthed to him, crying more than I have all night. Something very bad was about to happen.

The way that he looked at me... I'll never forget.

"Now, I don't know what kind of lying assholes you've been dealing with, but I'm a man of my word," Negan continues to rant and rave, stirring the pot even more. "First impressions are important. I need you to know me. So, back to it..."

Before any of knew it, Negan spun around on his heel and swung Lucille around in the process, too. Before I knew it... He had slammed Lucille down on Glenn's head. Twice.

My whole entire world collapsed right in front of my eyes as I could obviously hear Maggie screaming the most out of everyone. I held my mouth open and screamed as loud as I possible could.

"NO! GLENN! NO! NO! NO!"

Glenn managed to sit up again and it is revealed the force of the blows had dented his skull and dislodged one of his eyes — which made Negan pause and start laughing at him, bending sideways to come almost face to face with him.

"Buddy, you still there?" Negan asked, making a joke of it all. "I just don't know. It seems like you're trying to speak, but you just took a hell of a hit. I just popped your skull so hard, your eyeball just popped out, and it is gross as shit!"

We are all staring at Glenn in horror and sadness. I shook my head, hoping that when I opened my eyes again, he would be okay and this was all just a bad nightmare. So, I started to shake my head until my headache returned. I opened my eyes back up and he was still dying over there.

"Maggie...," Glenn called out her name, somewhat looking over at her. "I'll find you."

Negan shakes his head and continued, "Oh. Oh, hell. I can see this is hard on you guys. I am sorry. I truly am, but I did say it. No exceptions!"

Then, he kept on with his assault on our beloved Glenn. He bludgeoned Glenn to death, until there is virtually nothing left of his head, leaving a mass of bone, brain and flesh, with Glenn's corpse still twitching afterwards. "You bunch of pussies! I'm just getting started!"

I was so fucking angry now. Glenn didn't deserve to die, neither did Abraham. For God's sake, they had their whole lives ahead of them. Glenn won't ever be able to meet his child.

Eventually, Glenn was gone. Nothing left of him. Nothing at all. There is so much that I wish that I had said to him while he was here. More than "I love you" and "I'll protect you, no matter what." There is so much more that needed to be said before it was too late.

Now, it's too late to turn back and tell him what I needed to say to him. He loved Maggie, but dammit... He loved me, too. I love him more than I have anyone else like that in my life.

"Lucille is thirsty. She's a vampire bat!" Negan quipped after he was done with Glenn.

Walking back towards us, which we are completely traumatised by Glenn's murder, he had the audacity to utter the line, "Was the joke that bad?"

I don't know what came over me next, but I felt the heat of the anger once again. It lit me up like a fire burning under my ass. I seen red. I seen this unknowingly feeling that lingered before my eyes.

I seen my whole life flash before my eyes... But I didn't care.

"You son-of-a-bitch!" I exclaimed, almost getting up on my feet, but I remained keeled for the moment. "You have ruined everything! You just take and take... Until we are nothing and have nothing! I hate you!"

Negan took noticed of me and looked over his shoulder, grinning from ear to ear. With a dry chuckle, he simply taunted, "Ta-Da!"
