11 ➳ SOON

~ A/N: Hello, guys, as most of you know (if you watch the actual show) in this particular episode, two separate groups spread out. However, for Tess, I think that she needs to spend some time with Glenn. So, this is something I made-up and is from my imagination. Thank you for understanding. All the love .xx ~

"NICE ponytail," I snorted at Eugene as I walked passed him. He was now sporting a ponytail with his mullet.

"Thanks," he acknowledged before walking off towards Father Gabriel. "Nice braids."

"Thanks," I smiled back at him as I stood in the middle of Alexandria, watching everything happening around me.

I was feeling much better from when I was shot last week. I felt like I was back to normal and am now ready to get out by myself — or even with the whole group. Despite what Rick and them may say, I'm ready to head out.

I received word this morning from Denise that there are two groups heading out today. I guess that means that I get to decide what I want to do today. Do I go with Denise, Rosita, and Daryl or do I ask to go with Abraham and Eugene? Or, of course, do I stay here or go out there on my own?

However, seeing as I wasn't asked to go with either group, I will go out on my own – despite what Rick may testify. So, I waited until Daryl and them were officially gone before I even thought about getting my stuff together.

So, when the coast was clear, I asked Gabriel to open the gate and he did without any hesitation at all. Before I stepped out, though, he simply said with a smile, "Be safe." I thanked him in return.

"Whoa. Hold up there," I heard somebody say and I turned back around on my heel to see who the voice belonged to. It was Glenn, who was standing there with confusion written all over his face. "Tess, what the hell are you doing?"

"Heading out," I coughed out, not knowing how to take this approach with Glenn. "Why?"

"Tess, you know that you can't go out there by yourself – especially after what just happened last week," he stated, arms up. Obviously, he was far too concerned about me. "Well... If you're going out there, then you should've went with Daryl and them or even Abraham and Eugene."

I shrugged and huffed out, "I wasn't invited."

He dimmed his eyes and tried again, "Okay, well, if you're going out there now, then you need somebody to go with you."

I faked a smile and asked, "Like who? Everybody's busy."

"Like me," he stated before turning his back on me. "Let me go get my stuff."

"Glenn, no. Don't—"

"I'm going. Just wait on me for a minute," he called out as he began to walk back inside. "Gabe, don't let her leave without me!"

With that said, I furrowed my head to the side and watched as Gabriel took another stance against me. It was clear that he wasn't going to let me leave now. What Glenn says, goes. Apparently, that is.

To add extra drama, I crossed my arms across my chest and tapped my foot. Of course, I really liked Glenn and loved spending time with him — but he's making me feel like such a child that needs a guardian to watch after me twenty-four-seven. Well, if it wasn't Rick and Daryl making me stay back, it had to be Glenn making the call.

A moment later, Glenn was back with his backpack and his rifle. Of course, I could see that he had more than that, though. He had his pistol and knife, too. He was locked and loaded, and ready to go.

He smiled at both me and Gabriel before coming on over to the other side where I was currently standing. "Thanks, Gabe. We'll see you when we get back."

Gabe nodded and replied, "Okay, but what time should we be expecting you guys back?"

Glenn slightly turned back and quickly answered, "Before dark, surly. We're just gonna sweep the area for some extra food and things such as that. We'll be back soon."

"Alright," Gabe smiled again and nodded. "Be safe, you two!"

At this point, Glenn and I had already turned our backs and started to head out. "Always," Glenn called back with his hand up.

I heard the gate shut and, then, we were officially free.

"So," Glenn shrugged and looked at me as I walked beside him, "where are we going and what are we doing?"

I eyeballed him with my brows raised. "Oh, now, you're asking?" I scoffed, playfully rolling my eyes. "I thought that you told Gabriel that we were going to sweep the area for food and all that."

He shrugged with a smile and said, "Yeah, well... I had to get him off our back. We could do whatever you want today, Tess."

I suddenly stopped, which made him do the same thing, too. I froze and smiled up at him. "Whatever I want to do?"

He nodded and replied, "Of course. It's just me and you today. We got this."

I gulped and nodded once again. "Cool, then... Let's do this."

TWO hours later, we were wandering around in town and had actually managed to find a small bag of canned food that was stuffed into an old nasty fridge. It stunk so bad in there. I mean, Glenn and I both nearly threw-up after we opened it.

Now, we were sitting on some huge ass rock by the road while I had already went ahead to open a can of peaches. I would take one out, eat it, then hand one to Glenn from the can.

Today had been peaceful. Really peaceful.

So far, the day had been all about me and Glenn. The past two hours, we had been wandering around and talking. I tried to play I-Spy with him, but he sucked at the game, so it wasn't fun anymore after a while.

After all the Walkers that we had encounter and disgusting old moldy fridges that we've had to open up, we've survived together. All in all, it had become such a wonderful and productive day.

After the can of peaches was done, I threw the empty can into the bushes behind us and clapped my hands together of anything sticky left on them.

"I've had a lot of fun today," Glenn suddenly said with a full grin.

I nodded and quickly agreed, "So have I, but I always like hanging-out with you."

He lowered his head and, suddenly, the silence swallowed us up. I heard a twig snap out in the woods behind us and that only meant that it had to be a Walker. Maybe... The silence was so nice before the twig snapped behind us.

I decided to jump up and get ready for it, seeing it trample out from the woods. It looked like it was once a woman with a worn-out dress torn to pieces. I used my knife and drove it into her head, splitting it right in half.

After she was done, I slightly slid around and asked over my shoulder, "Do you think that Tara and Heath will be okay? They'll make it back alright... Yeah?"

Glenn slowly nodded and sighed. "Of course," he admitted, and that's when I slowly took my seat back. "You and Tara close now?"

I nodded and quickly replied, "Yeah, well, sort of. I mean, we finally said hello to one another the other day and, now, I would like to think that we are going to be good friends."

"She's pretty cool," Glenn added, looking up to meet my dark eyes. "I saved her life back at the prison that we were once at. She was working for the enemy, but quickly changed as soon as she met me. After I saved her, she saved me, too. I don't know if she knows it, but... I love her. She's one of my best friends."

"I really like her, too. Maybe love," I confessed — and, before I knew it, I admitted more than that. "And I really love you, Glenn."

He peeked his head up and questioned, "Oh, yeah?"

I nodded and slid in closer. "Yeah, I do, and... I love everybody back there. Not just you and Tara, but I love Maggie and I already love your unborn baby. It is going to be just like you, Glenn. I can already tell. I love Rick, Carl, and Michonne as well. And, dear Lord, I have no idea how, but somehow... I really love Daryl Dixon, too. I don't ever want to lose any of you guys. Like, ever. You're my family now."

To that, Glenn smiled and jumped up. We clicked in a very tight and heartwarming hug. I placed my arms wrapped around his small neck and breathed in his disgusting foul scent, yet I wouldn't have it any other way. I never wanted to let him go. Every single thing that he was... He meant the absolute world to me, and I couldn't let my whole world go right between my fingertips.

"I became a different person when I met you," I whispered in his ear, which only made him embrace me tighter. "And I'll never, ever forget you, Glenn." We separated and faced one another head-on. "No matter what happens."

He nodded and that's when we started to walk away. We walked down the empty street and that's when I heard him say, "I'll never forget you, either, Tess. I mean, how could I? You may have a twin, but you're truly one-of-a-kind."

To that, I chuckled and shook my head. He was crazy and that's mostly why I loved him. "So, you ready to head back home?" He nodded, so that's the direction we headed in.

However, when we returned, we found out the awful truth. Denise was dead and had been shot through the eye with an arrow — thanks to Dwight, himself. That night, I cried in my room until Glenn came up to check up on me.

"I promised Tara," I cried, letting my shoulders and back shake. "I promised her to keep Denise safe while she's gone — and I couldn't even do that."

I hadn't cried in such a very long time that it came off as almost unnatural. I didn't like to cry. It made me feel weak. Denise helped save my life when I was shot in the arm by Paula the other day.

Then, Dwight... He didn't have to kill her. Part of me believed that he wasn't aiming for Denise, but for Daryl instead.

I hated letting people down, especially those who I was trying to protect. Tara would have to come back and discover that Denise, her girlfriend, was dead – all thanks to someone I thought that I could somewhat trust. No Savior could be trusted. Ever.

"It's okay," he whispered in my ear and rubbed my shoulders. "Tara will understand when she comes back. You did what you could."

"I should've went with Daryl," I kept crying without looking up. "It should've been me — not her. Me."

"Tess, don't say that..."

"Bullshit!" I jumped to my feet and hit the wall, creating a small dent in it. My hand immediately felt the pain from my action. "Shit!"

"Tess, what the hell?" Glenn exclaimed just as I spun around and tried to hide my injured hand from him. "Yeah, that was smart!"

Yeah, I shouldn't have done that... What an idiot!

"Shut up," I hissed and ran over to the desk, where I had all my personal medical supplies at.

I didnt mean to be flat-out rude to him, but I was struggling with my emotions within the heat of the moment. I opened the drawer and took out the wrapping bandage. I tried to use my useless left hand to wrap my now-damaged dominate right hand, but it was no good.

"Here, let me help," he whispered and sat me back down on the end of the bed. He got the bandage and began to wrap my hand up. "I'm surprise Daryl hasn't ran in here to check on you."

"Even he knows that everybody has their different ways of grieving," I huffed and puffed — like the Big Bad Wolf. "Mine is mostly through anger, though."

Glenn nodded and commented, "I know what you mean. Daryl's method of grieving is usually through anger, too. You two have more in common than you think." I shrugged, just as Glenn was securing the bandage around my hand. "I'm no doctor, but I would think you should re-bandage this sometime tomorrow. Probably when you wake up would be best. Also, you need to keep applying ice to it to keep the swelling down."

I sniffled and tried not to cry anymore. "Our doctor is gone now... Remember?" To that, Glenn sighed heavily. "I've put down Tara already. She's going to come back and be livid towards me. What's the use?"

He froze and asked, "The use of what?"

Our eyes met and, fearlessly, I simply spat out, "Life, Glenn. What's the point of life? If the Saviors an-and Negan is really after us now, then we're all dead. I know that... First hand."

He stood up next to me and tried to talk me through it. "Tess, you can't mean that," he claimed, facing me. "I mean... If they're headed for us, then let them. We know who they are — thanks to you and your brother. We got this. You gotta believe that, Tess. You gotta believe in something."

I shrugged and turned my back on him for a minute. "Maybe I do, but maybe I don't, either," I gulped out and wiped away the last tear that I would shed tonight. With a heavy breath, I turned back around. "I need to sleep, Glenn, and so do you."

With that said, he nodded and kept quiet for a moment. I launched myself forward and hugged his neck tightly. He wrapped his arms around my waist as well. "Goodnight, Tess. We love you. We'll always be here."

I nodded and replied, "Same here. I'll see you guys tomorrow."

"Tomorrow," he promised before he exited my room, but left the door wide open for Daryl, who was now standing there.

Daryl remained outside at my door and looked dead at me, seeing how my hand was now bandaged-up. He didn't seem too surprised, which wasn't shocking to me since I'm sure that he heard what I did to the wall and to my hand in the end.

"You okay?" he simply and quietly asked.

I gulped and slowly nodded. "I'm fine," I reassured him and took a deep breath afterwards. "I'm just glad that you're okay."

He lowered his head for a second, but it only took him another second to look back into my dark eyes. I could barley see his as they were buried behind his long and scruffy hair. "I have to be. Just glad that you didn't break your hand on that wall."

I nodded and raised my eyebrows. "Negan won't stop, Daryl. He won't stop until we're all dead. I just hope you're ready for that. I hope you're ready for his backlash – because it's going to be bad. Worse than any of us have ever experienced before."

With that said, Daryl remained standing there frozen in time and probably wishing that what I'm saying was false. However, he definitely showed me when he looked me dead in the eye and croaked out, "Oh, yeah? Well, he better be ready for us. Ready for me."

"Daryl..."

"Goodnight," he simply scoffed before he practically ran down to his room. Before leaving, though, I heard him say, "Be ready for tomorrow."

With all of that said, he closed the door to his room and left me there in my room all alone with my thoughts. I ended up closing my door, too, and laying down to sleep with one eye open. Alas, I prayed for our safety and, above all, Tara and Heath's safety out there.

I didn't know exactly what Daryl meant by being "ready for tomorrow," but whatever the situation — I'll definitely be ready for it.
