29. Vultures

Becca looked out the window of the car she was in, Pepper had offered to take the young girl to the party since Tony had left for Mumbai a few hours ago. The strawberry blonde woman looked at the young teenager, the two knew of each other but never got the chance to meet until all of this happened. They had always heard good things about each other and Tony would never shut up about his sister. Pepper felt like she knew the girl without ever meeting Becca, and the young teenager felt the same.

"Is this the right address?" Pepper asks as the two look out the window of the car, they could see lights and hear loud music blaring through the house. It was clear that this was where Becca was invited.

"I think so, i've never been to a party like this before." Becca replies, rubbing her jacket sleeved arm, she had changed clothes courtesy of Pepper wanting to get to know the young girl earlier in the day. Tony wanted to show off his sister and Becca was just happy to be with her brother in a happy light.

"It's not always everyone's scene, so don't feel bad if you don't fit in with the party crowd. That was always Tony's life." Pepper says softly, trying to reassure the sister as best she could.

Becca nods, "Mama would tell me stories about Buddy when he was in school and after that." She says then gasps, turning to look at the woman in the driver's seat, "Buddy's birthday party! Mama told me about that one! The one where the Malibu home blew up almost."

Pepper's eyes widen, then smile softly, nodding in agreement, "Yeah, his birthday in 2010, that was something else." She says, "But if you don't want to stay here with your friends, then you can always call me." Pepper says, "We'll do something fun, just the two of us. We still have a lot to get to know about each other."

Becca beams at the older woman, nodding enthusiastically, "Yes!" She agrees, "I'd really like that, Pepper." Becca says with a smile as she moves to open the door.

"Your suit with you just in case?" Pepper asks cautiously. The strawberry blonde woman knew that danger could happen at any moment, her life with Tony was proof enough of that. She wanted to make sure Becca was prepared just in case someone decided to show up and cause havoc.

Becca nods, hiking her jacket and shirt sleeves up to show her suit is on her body underneath her mundane clothes, "I have it. I was told to always be ready for anything."

Pepper nods slowly, she didn't like that Becca was so young but already so well versed in the realities of what her family's life was. The superhero life, that dangerous lifestyle that could one day end your life if the villain or bad guy was too strong for you. She had seen so much with Tony, the Battle of New York in 2012 was one of those days where she wished she had more time with him. Watching him fall out of the wormhole unconscious was something she never wanted to see again. And to picture Becca in that world, she couldn't.

"Be careful." Pepper says softly with worry etched in her voice.

Becca smiles softly, grabbing Pepper's hand and squeezing it, "I will." She promises the older woman. "I promise." She adds as she opens the door of the passenger side of the car.

When she steps out of the car, she looks around as she walks up to the walkway. She smiles softly when she sees Ned, Peter, MJ and Harry. Ned was wearing one of his party hats that he collected. Peter looked casual as MJ and Harry were a bit more dressed up like Becca was. "Becca!" MJ waves the girl over and when Becca walks up to the group, Peter instantly has his arms wrapped around her waist from behind.

Becca smiled as she leaned into Peter's embrace. She could feel his nervousness coming off of him in waves and she knew that only she could calm him down in this moment. "Did you have fun with Mr Stark?" Peter asked softly.

Becca nodded in reply, "We did, I met Pepper finally too. She's super nice, she drove me here." She replies with a small smile. She knew that Peter was unintentionally jealous of her relationships with the people he was trying to form relationships of his own with. She had an upper hand in everything because of her family whereas Peter did not. And she knew it bugged him more than he let on at times.

Peter nods, smiling softly and kissing Becca's temple before reluctantly letting her out of his arms. "You both have your suits right?" Ned asks as they begin to walk towards the entrance of the house. Peter and Becca both slightly lift their sleeves to show their suits were already on their body and Ned grins widely, "This is gonna change our lives."

"But i'd like mine to stay the same.." Becca mutters softly and MJ wraps her arms around Becca's arm.

"Ned's just overly excited." MJ says, "Everyone knows about your crazy life, Sof." She says. Oftentimes MJ would say both names Becca went by instead of one or the other; it was just something that the redhead did without even knowing it. There would be times where she'd called Becca by her actual name and other times when she would use Sofia. Becca didn't mind, she liked the mix up personally, getting use of her middle name more than it would.

The loud techno music blasted through the group's ears as they entered the home, flashing lights caused Becca to look away quickly. Peter wrapped his arm around her waist to keep her close to him for not only her protection. She didn't need protecting, she clearly proved that at gym class, but also to make sure they didn't get split up accidentally by the crowds of people.

Ned leans in to Peter slightly to reveal the game plan, "Okay. We're gonna have Spider-Man swing in with Crystal, say you guys are tight, and MJ, Harry and I get a fist bump or one of those half bro hugs." He states and MJ rolls her eyes as Harry swings his arm around his girlfriend, chuckling at their friend's game plan.

"Can't believe you guys are at this lame party." A voice they hadn't heard in a long time appears in their ears. Becca whips her head over to see Michelle putting peanut butter on toast. She missed Michelle a lot, missing her quick wit or talk about conspiracies. She was an essential part of their group in Becca's eyes.

"But you're here too." Harry points out casually.

"Am i?" Michelle quips as she bites into her toast and walks away, leaving the group confused.

"Hey guys." Liz says as she walks over to them, quickly hugging MJ and waving at Harry. She then looks over at Ned, smiling softly, "Cool hat, Ned."

"Hi, Liz." Ned greets enthusiastically.

Becca hesitates, "Hi, Liz." She mutters, she was still learning how to expand her social circle of friends easily, and with MJ's help she was getting better at it.

"I'm so happy you guys came." Liz says with a smile, "There's pizza and drinks. Help yourself."

Peter smiles sheepishly at the senior girl in front of him and his friends, "What a great party." He compliments Liz, Becca nodding in agreement until they overhear something collide with the floor and break.

Liz smiles but turns her head to where the sound came from, "My parents will kill me if anything's broken. I gotta-" she tries to explain but the group understands her job as host, "Have fun." She tells them before walking off.

Ned turns to Peter and Becca, "Guys, everyone's here. Spider it up." He whispers and Becca laughs softly at Ned but Peter shakes his head rapidly.

"No, no, no. I can't- I cannot do this. Spider-man and Crystal are not party tricks, okay?" Peter defends his alter ego and his girlfriend's. He wanted to use Spider-Man for good, not to become popular amongst the kids in their school. "I'm just gonna be myself." He says.

Ned sighs, "Peter, no one wants that." He states plainly.

"I do.." Becca mumbles, causing Peter to smile weakly at his girlfriend.

"Dude." Harry quipped, "Not cool."

Becca looks at Peter as he walks a few feet away from the group and Flash yells into the microphone of his DJ booth, "Penis Parker, what's up?" He calls out to the teenager and Peter instantly pales, "So where's your pals Spider-Man and Crystal?" He questions. He clearly hadn't learned not to bully people from what Becca had done to him earlier. "Let me guess: In Canada with your imaginary girlfriend?" He quips.

She narrows her eyes and steps into Flash's line of sight, wrapping her arm around Peter's and her other hand slipping into his, "I'm right here!" She snaps. "Don't make me test my patience again, Flash." Becca shouts to the bully, "I come from a family who doesn't take kindly to bullies like you." She quips and she watches as Flash pales slightly. Choruses of her classmates holler and yell cheers at what she had said but she didn't care. Flash was done bullying her and her friends.

Peter snaps out of his thoughts as he looks at Becca, "Let's go change." He whispers to her. Becca hesitates as he pulls her away from Flash's line of sight and they walk outside of the house.

"I thought you didn't want to do this anymore?" Becca questions as Peter waits until people leave the section of the backyard they were in and he pulled Becca onto his back, climbing the wall easily until he was on the roof of the neighboring house.

"You got to put Flash in his place. I haven't ever been able to do that." Peter says as he strips his clothes, revealing his suit. Becca sighs but nods, she understands where he's coming from as she strips her own clothes, folding them nicely as she plaits her hair as Peter crouches down, "Hey what's up, i'm Spider-Man. Just thought my partner Crystal and I would swing by and say hello to our buddy Peter and his girl Becca." He says, Becca laughs as she knows he's rehearsing his lines. It was weird to both of them when Peter said Becca's actual name, he always called her Fia, the two hadn't called each other by their real names in a very long time. "What's up, Ned? Hey, where's Peter and Becca, anyways? He must be around.." he trails off as he looks down at the walls of windows showing the party going on.

"Do I need to practice lines?" Becca asks curiously as she sits beside Peter, her back facing the party as she pulls his hand into hers, "It'll be okay, you know." She reassures him.

Peter huffs out of breath, still internally debating if he should even be doing this whole thing, "Gosh, this is stupid. What are we doing?" He asks as he watches Ned, MJ and Harry standing in wait for their friends to make their appearance.

But a blast in the distance pulls them both from the party. Blue sparks fly into the night sky and Becca's eyes widen in shock, "What was that?" She asks her boyfriend as he stands up.

"What the hell?" He questions himself as Becca stands up slowly, they both look at each other, then at the party. Becca watches Peter as he stares and analyzes the blast before she pulls out her phone and quickly texts their group chat.

Miss America
Something's come up.
Benji and I need to go help.

Richie Rich
Like superhero stuff?

Ginger lives matter
Be careful.
We'll try to come up with something.

Becca put her phone away after Harry's response, she found it odd that Ned didn't reply but maybe he was busy. But she couldn't think about that now when someone could be in danger. The blast that they saw reminded her too much of dangerously powered weapons. Neither of the two thought about anything else when they took off running, Becca wrapped her arms around Peter's neck and he took off swinging quickly through the neighborhood.

Peter hops onto a roof of another house and Becca breaks apart from him, the two jumping off the roof and Becca watches as Peter shoots out another web before he realizes that there was nothing for his web to connect to as they had just landed on a golf course.

Peter's masked eyes widen and Becca breaks off into a sprint, finally on her territory of abilities instead of Peter's. She loved running, but never could use her full speed at school or anywhere else. Peter was panting as Becca laughed, glancing behind her shoulder to see him catching up.

"How do you do this?" He asks her, then yelps in surprise when the sprinklers turn on, dodging out of the way of the oncoming water. "This sucks." He complains.

"Super soldier, remember?" Becca says back to him, "Running is naturally easy for me." She comments, "Just like it is for my Papa and uncle."

It doesn't take them much longer to reach where the blasts were going off. Peter was hanging upside down clinging to the side of the bridge as Becca stood on the bridge waiting for Peter to make the first move. The two men talking only made them want to wait and listen, find out what was going on.

"I got tons of great stuff here. One sec." One man says, the dealer. "Okay, I got black hole grenades, Chitauri railguns-" The dealer says and Becca's eyes widen in shock as she hears the name of the aliens that attacked New York city in 2012. Her family talked about that time quite a lot. It was a lot of firsts for her Mother and the Avengers, it was the fight that brought them together.

"You letting off shots in public now? Hurry up." Another guy says to the dealer, crewmember perhaps. The crewmember then turns to the buyer, "Look, times are changing. We're the only ones selling these high-tech weapons."

"Ohh. This must be where the ATM robbers got their stuff." Peter whispers to Becca quietly enough so that she was the only one able to hear them. Their sensitive hearing was fine tuned on their voices that they could talk barely above a whisper and they could hear it as if the other was talking at normal volume.

"I just need something to stick up somebody. I'm not trying to shoot them back in time." The buyer says casually to the dealers.

"I got antigrav climbers." The first dealer says from the back of the truck and that seems to peak the interest of the buyer.

"Yo, climbers?" The buyer asks.

Everything seemed to be going fine until Peter's phone started yodeling.

"Benji!" Becca whispered nervously to her boyfriend who scrambled to turn his phone off. Spider-Man was fumbling to grab his phone, all the while the buy and dealers were getting pissed that someone was with them.

"Okay, what the hell is that?" The first dealer questions.

Peter finally pulls his phone out from his suit pocket and sees Ned's face on his screen. The teenagers internally want to throttle their best friend right now but their cover was blown, and if they didn't do something right now, the buyer was going to be killed. And neither Peter, nor Becca wanted that happening, even if he was a criminal. No one deserves to die.

"You set us up?" The second dealer asks.

The buyer quickly raises his hands in defense/surrender, "Hey, hey, man." He says, fear lacing his voice and Becca quickly jumps off the bridge and lands in the thugs' line of site.

"Hey!" She gets their attention and Peter lands beside her quickly.

"If you're gonna shoot at somebody, shoot at me." Peter rambles nervously. Becca notices a look of shock and surprise on the buyer's face. Shock that someone was there, and surprise to see someone actually willing to take a bullet for him.

The second dealer smirks and aims his gun at Peter, but then notices his protective stance slightly in front of Becca and then aims it at her, "All right." He says and before he can pull the trigger, Peter shoots a web at the gun and pulls it away from the thug.

Crystal rushes towards the thug that aimed the gun at her and kicks him in the gut with her knee harshly. The man falters as Becca moves quickly around him, kicking him on the back and watches him collide on the ground. Spider-Man then races to the first dealer who was in the truck, but the dealer was prepared and hits Peter with a high-tech weapon in the chest, sending the teenager flying into the cement wall of the bridge.

Crystal gasps, rushing over to her partner as the thugs start up the van. She watches the buyer drive off as the van with the two thugs begins to leave, "Spidey.." She whispers as he lifts his head, obviously in a daze after what he was hit with.

"What was that?" He questions as he shoots out a web and it attaches to the open door of the back of the van. He yelps in surprise as he begins to be dragged. Becca stands up in shock and begins to run beside Peter. The van takes off with Peter still being dragged, taking a sharp turn into a neighborhood street. Peter collides with a few trash cans, yelling in confusion as Becca picks up her pace.

"Spidey!" Becca yells as she continues running behind Peter. He tries to get his bearings but the van keeps turning harshly trying to lose the power duo. Becca's crystal blue eyes widen as the first dealer powers up an alien gun and fires it at the van door. She leaps over the broken door that nearly collides with herself and Peter.

Peter shoots out another web with his free hand to get a better bearing and he sits as he's being dragged, as he dodges another blast he yelps, "Oh, my butt!" He shouts. The gun goes off inside the van, breaking through the wall of the car and launches itself out of the van, nearly hitting the couple but they manage to dodge it. The van sharply turns again and Peter collides harshly into a parked car. He grunts as he collides with more trash cans as Becca continues running beside him, not knowing what to do in this moment to help him.

She yelps in surprise, stopping her running when Peter collides with a small brick setup and that finally breaks him and his webs of the van. He shoots another web at the remaining van door but it snaps off easily.

"What are we going to do?" Becca asks her boyfriend as he looks around, scanning the area they were in.

"We're gonna have to take a shortcut." He says and the two dart into a residential area. The two leap over the fence easily, sliding on the parked car as they see a family playing ping-pong in their backyard. "Hey guys, good game. Have fun." He tells the father and son as Becca simply waves as they dasha cross the lawn and into the neighboring backyard.

A dog comes barking up to them as they leapt into the second backyard, "Hey, hey fella." Becca says with a smile as Peter grabs a ball and throws it.

"Sorry, no time to play. Here, go fetch." Peter says as he throws the ball and the dog runs off to chase it. Becca wraps her arms around Peter's neck as he shoots a web and the two begin to swing through the neighborhood quickly, still trying to catch the weapon dealers. "Now, this is more like it." Peter says with a lighthearted tone to his voice that can't help but make Becca laugh softly.

"You like swinging and i like running." She teases until Peter's webs attach to a treehouse and pull it down from the tree it was sitting down. He swings them high until they crash down into a shed.

The two dart out of the shed, Peter breaks through fencing and the two race across several backyards until they reach a backyard Peter can swing from. The man in the backyard barbequing something that makes Becca's stomach growl, "Smells really good!" Peter waves at the man as he shoots out a we, wraps his arm tightly around Becca's waist and they swing into the next backyard.

"Spidey too low!" Becca shouts as Peter swings them into a pool, splashing all the people around the pool. The people scream as Peter pulls himself and Becca out of the pool and into the next backyard.

They crash land in front of a tent with two little girls inside, Becca smiles and waves but the water messed with Peter's suit causing his suit's eyes to malfunction briefly. He looks over at the two guys and Becca knew he was smiling under the mask, but the eyes glitching was enough to make the little girls scream in terror and fumble in their tent to try and get away from him.

When Peter swings the two of them onto the street, they see the van speeding off, "Almost got you." Spider-Man mumbles in determination as he swings them onto the roof of a home. They leap onto roof after roof to keep up with the van, "Thought you got away from us, didn't you?" The teenager mutters to no one but himself and Becca as they continue to roof hop. "We got you right where we want you." Peter breathes out as he pants when they reach the last roof before he and Becca launch themselves off the roof, "Surprise!" He shouts.

But before they land on the roof of the van, something grabs the two of them in midair. Becca screams as Peter yells in shock as they're pulled away from the van. Becca winces at her arm as it's gripped tight by something metal. She looks up and sees a winged man, his wings made of metal. His eyes when he looked down at the two teenagers were bright green, causing Becca to become fearful even more so than she was.

Peter tries to get his foot out of the grip of the winged man as Becca is struggling against the grip on her forearm. "What the hell?" He questions. They fly high into the city, causing Becca to panic more.

"B-Spidey.." Becca mutters in fear, the winged man flies them into the clouds and something on Peter's back deploys a parachute, effectively pulling him out of the man's grip.

"Crystal!" Peter screams as the winged man hovers in the air with Becca still in his grip before he decides to drop her. Spider-Man fumbles in the air as he tries to reach Becca, his panic off the charts as she's screaming as they fall in the sky.

Before Peter manages to catch her though, they plummet into the cold water harshly. Peter fumbles in the water as he tries to reach Becca but she's frozen in fear. He'd never seen this look on her face but one other time. The time when she was muzzled. She was remembering her past in the Red Room and she was terrified. Becca scratched at her neck as she fought against the water, clearly not knowing how to swim as Peter attempts fight the parachute wrapped around him.

Becca's throat burns for air as she grips her throat, her mind flashes memories of her head being dunked into freezing, ice cold water as punishment in the Red Room. The Madam shouting at her through the muffled water as her head is brought up for a breath of air only before her face and head is plunged back into the water once more. She can feel herself slipping into her subconscious when arms wrap around her and she and Peter are pulled from the water.
