25. Classes

Becca leans against Peter as they ride the train to school. He subconsciously wraps his arm around her waist as the train jolts to a halt at one of the stops before theirs. Becca pulls out a connector for their two earbuds. The music helps Peter focus when there's a lot of people around him in a small, tight area like they're in right now on the train. As Peter texts Happy for what he feels like the millionth time, his girlfriend places his earbuds into his ears and her own set into her own. When Peter hits send he tightens his grip on his girlfriend's waist. Then sends a few more texts to Happy to make sure the bodyguard knows it's Peter who's texting him.

"Benji, when there's a mission for us, Happy will let us know." Becca reassures him as the two step off the train at their stop. His arm naturally drapes against her shoulders as he grabs her phone and finds a song for them to listen to as they walk past the football players and those running track on the Midtown field.

All Peter does is nod in reply. It had been two months since Becca returned home from her short trip to Wakanda. Eyes would still follow her pretty much everywhere she went and Peter was being more cautious as to where they went together in public. The train ride was touch and go, he could feel eyes on his girlfriend since even before they exited their apartment. It made his senses even more dialed up then normal.

"Benji!" Becca jolts Peter from his thoughts when she pulls him out of the way of Eugene "Flash" Thompson and his car as he nearly runs the couple over. She nearly dents the hood of his car with her hand to brace the couple from the car before she pulled Peter out of the way.

"What's up, Penis Parker?" Flash teases the boy then looks at Becca, "Assassin freak." He states harshly.

Peter rolls his eyes and sighs at the nickname Flash had given the Parker boy, but he was worried about what he had said to Becca, he pulls one bud out of his ear as she does the same, "You alright, Fia?" He asks, "I should've been paying attention.. the music-"

Becca presses her two fingers against his lips to quiet him, shushing him in the process. "I'm okay.. we both know the music dulls your senses enough for you not to pick up on anything like that really." She reminds him, kissing his cheek with a small and weak smile on her face, "Let's get ready for class, okay?"

Peter nods, his hand finding hers as the two walk side by side towards their lockers. On the tvs above them they can hear Betty Brant and her co-host going over the morning announcements. "Rise and shine, students of Midtown Science and Technology." She starts the announcements.

"Students, don't forget about your homecoming tickets. Do you have a date for homecoming?" Betty's co-host, Jason, asks the question towards Betty who awkwardly chuckles.

"Thanks, Jason, but I already have a date." Betty replies.

"Okay.."

"Yeah.."

As Peter guides them to their lockers, they maneuver through the thick crowd of teenagers and teachers around them. Peter unlocks his locker and hangs his backpack up on the hook inside the metal container. Becca stands beside him and unlocks her own lockers, setting her backpack inside as the song Peter had chosen dies down in their ears.

"Join us, Peter." Harry says from behind his friend.

"Together we'll build my new Lego Death Star." Ned says as he holds his Lego figurine of Emperor Palpatine on Peter's shoulder. Becca giggles as she hugs MJ who stands beside her, letting the three boys in their friend group gush over the Lego set Ned had finally gotten.

"What?" Peter asks in shock as he turns around to face Harry and Ned.

"You boys are lame." MJ teases but the three boys just playfully look at her.

"No way. That's awesome. How many pieces?" Peter rambles as he grabs his textbook for his upcoming class. Becca looks over at MJ in confusion.

"Pieces?" Becca asks quietly.

"Three thousand, eight hundred and three." Ned answers Peter. Harry whistles in amazement.

"Dope." Harry comments.

"That's insane." Peter mutters.

"I know!" Ned grins.

MJ just shakes her head, turning to her only true female friend. "Lego sets are toys you build out of tiny stackable pieces." MJ explains, "While you were in, you know, the boys were talking about it." The redhead explains and Becca nods in understanding.

"So you wanna build it tonight?" Ned asks as Harry leans against the lockers beside them.

"We'll do it at my place, I'll order pizza. The girls can watch." Harry says with a small smile, "My dad's still out of town, it'll be great."

Becca hesitates as Harry speaks, her boyfriend's eyes catching her own. "No, I can't tonight. Fia and I've got the Stark-"

Ned sighs but nods as the group of five begin to walk down the hall, "Mmhm. Stark Internship."

"Exactly." Peter mutters.

"Always got that internship." Harry comments, you could hear it in his and Ned's voices they were disappointed that their friends couldn't make it. While they knew about Becca's life, Peter's double identity was still intact. No one but a select few knew about Peter's life as Spider Man.

"Sorry, Neddie." Becca mumbles, "Maybe some other time this week?" She suggests. Their friends nod in appreciativeness as Peter continues on talking about the internship which was really just patrolling New York as Spider Man and Crystal.

Peter nods in agreement with his girlfriend, "Yeah, well, hopefully soon it'll lead to a real job with them. I don't want Fia's relationship with the CEO and her brother to be the reason that i might get a job. I want to earn it."

Harry nods, he understood more than any of them aside from possibly Becca what it took to work for something, earning it instead of being handed it. His father was the CEO and founder of OsCorp. Harry was supposed to inherit the OsCorp title when he graduated college, but he wanted to earn and work for his future like anyone else. "That would be so cool." Harry comments.

"Right?" Peter agrees.

"He'd be all, 'Good job on those spreadsheets, Peter. Here's a gold coin.'" Ned says and the four friends look at him with confused looks on their faces. Ned simply shrugs, "I don't know how jobs work."

"That's exactly how they work." Peter teases.

Harry drapes his arm around MJ's shoulders as they stop in front of the many trophy cases around their school, "Ned and I will knock out the basic bones of the Death Star at his place. And then we'll come by afterwards. The most difficult thing is the base of it." Harry states and Ned nods as Becca steps away from the three boys with MJ.

"The top half all three of us can knock out in two hours, tops." Ned follows up on what Harry was saying but Peter gets lost in his thoughts as he watches Becca talk with MJ. His hearing could pick up what they were talking about. Homecoming. MJ was showing pictures of dresses that she thinks Becca would look good in and how the two of them should go shopping soon.

The smile Peter watch form on Becca's face as she pointed at MJ's phone nearly took his breath away. The sun was hitting the back of Becca's hair, turning her hair into the chocolate brown that matched her mother's hair. Her blue eyes sparkled it seemed to him as she smiled wide at the different pictures MJ was showing her.

"That'd be great." Peter mumbled, still watching his girlfriend.

Harry crossed his arms over his chest as he watched his own girlfriend, his precious ginger. "You didn't hear a word we said, did you, Pete?"

Peter blinks his eyes, "Huh? What? No. I did." He stammers as he turns his eyes away from Becca and looks at his two best friends, "You'll both come by after building the frame." He mutters as his eyes trail off to his girlfriend once again.

Ned leans close to Harry, "He heard but he's focused on something else. Or should i say, someone." He teases and Harry chuckles in agreement.

"Oaky, so how do we calculate linear acceleration between points A and B?" The teacher asks the class. "Flash." She calls on Thompson who had his hand raised.

"It's the product of sine of the angle and gravity divided by the mass." Flash answers.

"Nope." The teacher, Ms. Warren, replies quickly. Then glances at the couple in the back, "Peter. You still with us?" She asks and Peter snaps his head up off his arms which were resting on the lab table in front of his laptop which was currently playing a youtube clip of Peter as Spider Man, the same clip Tony had shown him when he recruited the teenager a year ago.

Peter scrambles, lowering his laptop as he looks at the white board. "Yeah? Uh.." He knew the answer, and the teacher knew he knew it.

Ms Warren then looked over at the teenager beside him, "Rebecca? Care to help Peter?"

Becca's blue eyes snap up to the teacher as Peter glances at her, she can hear the other students quietly whispering, but she nods, "Of course." She answers with a small smile as she pushes her plaited hair behind her shoulder, her hand resting on Peter's knee to calm his nerves. "Mass cancels out." She starts and Peter then looks at their teacher.

"So it's just gravity times sine." Peter answers.

Ms Warren looks at the young couple, nodding in approval, "Right. See Flash, being the fastest isn't always the best if you are wrong." She teases her student and the class erupts into small laughter.

Becca and Peter make eye contact with Flash as he turns in his seat to look behind them, "You're both dead." He threatens them for embarrassing him in front of the entire class.

The daughter of Bucky Barnes rolls her blue eyes and smirks, "I've gotten better threats from people far worse than you." She bites back at the bully in front of them, leaning back in her seat. Flash only eyes her before his turns back around in his chair.

It's lunch time when the group of five meet back up in the cafeteria, but before they can all sit together, MJ drags Becca away from the three boys to help Liz Allen put up a Homecoming banner. But despite being all the way across the cafeteria from her boyfriend, she can still hear them talking as if she was beside them.

"Is that a new top on Fia?" Peter asks with his chin in his hand as he sits in between Ned and Harry at their usual lunch table.

"Not that I know of." Ned mutters, "But we've never seen that top with those pants." He comments.

Harry shakes his head as he watches MJ and Becca hang the poster with Liz. Their redhead and dubbed mother of the group, wanted to help Becca feel at ease with the other students and classmates so she had been getting the teenager into more school activities. MJ and Liz were good friends and the two were on the Homecoming committee, the ginger wanted Becca to learn more about school life and that involved helping make Homecoming a reality.

"You live with her, Pete. Shouldn't you know?" Harry questions.

"It's not like I go through her clothes. That's an invasion of her privacy." Peter points out, then notices that he's still staring at his girlfriend, "We should probably stop staring before it gets creepy though." He mumbles to himself and Ned. Peter knew Ned meant no harm to his relationship with Becca, he was a brother to her, and he was one of Ned's best friends. And Harry wasn't even looking at Becca much, his eyes were focused on his own girlfriend who was doing her best to help Becca adjust and integrate into highschool life as much as she could.

"Too late." A voice they haven't heard in a while breaks them out of the trance. All three heads turn to see their friend who left their group when Becca's truth came to light. "You guys are losers." Michelle says from her spot adjacent to the group.

She had kept her distance from the group, especially Peter and Becca but the two could see that she missed hanging with them and noticed she was slowly moving herself back to them at her own pace. "Well, then why do you sit with us?" Ned asks plainly.

"Cause I don't have any friends." Michelle responds.

"Who's fault is that?" Harry quips harsher than he intended.

"Harold." MJ mutters harshly as she and Becca step up to the table, Harry moves away from Peter and Ned as he sits beside his girlfriend, "Hi, Elle." MJ says with a small smile.

Becca sits beside Peter as she steals his chocolate milk carton off his tray, smiling softly as she swaps it with an orange juice box. Her blue eyes glance over at where Michelle is. She hadn't spoken to Michelle since before their fallout that she didn't even know had happened. She was in Germany when everything came to light for their friend group. Michelle only looks away and goes back to reading her book, effectively ending any form of conversation she and the group were having.

"Next question." Liz says as she flips her flashcards. Peter and Ned suggested that Becca come for their decathlon practices, to see if she was interested in joining the team. Mr Harrington had offered a spot on the team if she wanted one, he was one of the nicer teachers. Flighty and anxious most of the time, but nice. "What is the heaviest naturally-occurring element?"

The student next the Ned at the tables on the stage of where they were practicing ringed his bell first, "Hydrogen's the lightest. That's not the question. Okay. Yeah." He rambled nervously. Liz was popular amongst the highschool boys Becca had found out quickly from MJ telling her the rundown of who's who in the school when she had first arrived at Midtown and the two girls had gotten close.

Becca nervously rings her own bell, being seated next to another student because Peter had been dropping out of the practices to focus on his patrols more recently, "Uranium." She mutters, Liz gives her a warm smile and nods.

"That's correct. Thank you, Rebecca." Liz states and Becca smiles slightly in confidence. "Open your books to page ten." She instructs the team but Becca can't help but overhear Mr Harrington talking with Peter.

"Peter, it's Nationals. Is there no way you can take one weekend off?" Mr Harrington asks his student.

"Excuse me." Becca says before standing up from her seat and walks off the stage over to Peter, "Mr Harrington?" She questions nervously.

"Rebecca, maybe you can help Peter change his mind." Their teacher says and Becca hesitates.

"Benji?" Becca mutters concerned

Peter sighs as Becca sits adjacent to him as he looks at Mr Harrington, "I can't go to Washington. If Mr Stark needs me, then I have to make sure I'm here." He says and before Becca could speak, Flash pipes up.

"You've never even been in the same room as Tony Stark." Flash quips. "Neither has Rebecca." He adds. Becca had made the decision when she returned from Wakanda after the civil war that broke her family up, that she wouldn't mention her connection to her older brother unless necessary.

"Wait. What's happening?" Becca asks, louder than she anticipated and drew the rest of the team's attention to them.

"Peter's not going to Washington. And if Peter's not going, then neither is Rebecca." One of their teammates who was doing homework on the floor beside the stage comments.

One of the students begins to panic and another one rings his bell before speaking, "Why not?"

Liz looks over at the two, "Really? Right before Nationals?" She asks the two of them.

"He already quit marching band and robotics lab." Michelle pipes in from where she was reading another book. All eyes turn to her in one swift motion and she shrugs, "I'm not obsessed with him. Just very observant." She quickly adds.

Becca looks over at Peter, she had known he was backing away from school activities to focus on patrol more but he was now backing out of the one school activity they both were doing together. She knew they'd need to talk about it later.

"Benji.. I can talk to Buddy to give us the weekend off." She says and Peter shakes his head. He didn't want to show Tony that he put school before a mission if he needed them. He wanted to have the chance to prove himself, to be on the same level as his girlfriend when it came to superhero things.

"Yeah, Benji." Flash teases, mocking the nickname Becca calls her boyfriend and she narrows her blue eyes at him. "Who's Buddy?" He asks, which the class agrees in wanting to know the answer.

Becca hesitates, she debates telling them all that Buddy is Tony, but she decides against it, "He works at Stark Industries, under Ms Potts." She answers and Flash smirks because Becca was riled up but didn't bite the bait, but he knew she would eventually.

Liz sighs, then looks back at Flash, "Flash, you're in for Peter." She says as team captain, then looks at Becca, "We'll miss you both." She tells them.

"Oof, i dunno. I gotta check my calendar first." Flash jokes, "I got a hot date with Black Widow coming up."

A bell rings again, "That is false." One of the students, Abraham, commented.

"Aunt Tasha would snap you like a twig just by looking at you." Becca retorts with a smirk of her own and Flash narrows his eyes at her.

Mr Harrington looks up at Abraham, "What'd i tell you about using the bell for comedic purposes?" He questions his student then turns back to Peter and Becca, "Peter, if you change your mind, just let me know before we leave." He says, then looks up at Becca, "There any chance you at least could take the weekend off?"

Becca hesitates, "I'm sorry, Mr Harrington." She says with a shake of her head.

"That's alright. But the same goes for you, Miss Barnes." He says and Becca nods with a small smile.

To Becca, school felt like it went by too quickly. But for Peter, it felt like it was dragging, because the second the bell rang, they were out the doors of the school. He was eager to begin his patrol of Queens and parts of other parts of New York. Peter glances around at their surroundings before he and Becca jump with ease over the high fence. She always enjoyed using her enhanced agility but only ever got to use it on patrol these days. She couldn't use it at school, it would be unfair to the others if she used it to try out for the cheerleading squad. Or if she used her smarts for any other after school activity, she only joined the decathlon team because Ned and Peter had invited her to join. MJ had tried to get Becca to sign up for the drama club but Becca already had enough eyes on her as it was, she didn't need any more by being on a stage.

"Ready for patrol?" Peter asks excitedly, "Maybe Happy will have something for us this time."

Becca smiles softly, "Maybe, but let's do our best no matter what." She tells him as they jog away from the school.

"Always." Peter agrees with a smile of his own, excited to get back into his suit.
