19. Wounds
Becca reaches her father with her mother and Uncle Steve as the four of them hide behind cart pullers. Becca stays beside her uncle as Mary rushes to her husband. The daughter can clearly tell the claw wounds in her mother's back are painful, and taking a huge toll on her. Though Mary is fighting it, her family can clearly tell she was struggling with the pain. Bucky looks at his family, he didn't want them here. They should've just left him and went on the run. But his family was stubborn, it was in their blood. "We gotta go." Bucky says, gaining his family's attention, "That guy's probably in Siberia by now." He points out.
Steve looks around at the area around him, the fighting still going strong between the two teams, "We gotta draw out the flyers." He states. He and Becca watch as Bucky holds onto his wife to support her, the three super soldiers could all hear her heart rate, it was not calming down and her breathing was erratic due to the pain she was dealing with. It was unbearable. "I'll take Vision, you three get to the jet." He states to his family.
Becca's eyes go wide, she starts to speak but her Uncle Sam's voice appears in their ears. "No, you get to the jet! The four of you!" Sam shouts, "The rest of us aren't getting out of here."
"As much as i hate to admit it, if we're gonna win this one, some of us might have to lose it." Clint adds into the comms.
Becca shakes her head, "N-No, there has to be another way." She stutters to her uncles, whom she loved with her entire being. They were her family. And she didn't want to be separated from them again. "I can't lose you."
"It's alright, Princess." Sam responds to his niece, he knew she would struggle with leaving some of her family behind to deal with the fallout of this tarmac battle. "We'll all be together someday. You just focus on keeping you and your family safe. This isn't the real fight." He tries to reassure Becca, his beloved Princess.
Steve takes Becca's hand, then looks out onto the battle field, "Alright, Sam. What's the play?" He asks his friend and the man he considered to be his brother. Steve looks at Bucky, who was bending his knee and balancing himself against the cart puller to give his wife a chance to sit. To give her a chance to breathe and control her pain levels if at all possible.
"We need a diversion. Something big." Sam answers.
Out of all the voices Becca thought she would hear give an answer to Sam, Scott Lang was not one of them. "I got something kinda big." Scott chimes in and Becca notices her mother's hazel eyes widen, "But i can't hold it for very long."
"Scott, no. That's to0 dangerous. Hank couldn't even pull that off." Mary says quickly, Becca didn't know what they were talking about but if her mother was concerned, then it was something big.
"It'll be alright, Mary." Scott says, reassuring his mentor's friend. "On my signal, run like hell. And if i tear myself in half, don't come back for me."
Bucky looks at his wife then his brother and daughter in confusion, "He's gonna tear himself in half?" He asks, pushing some loose strands of hair from his wife's face, trying to help her as best he can in the situation they're in.
"You sure about this, Scott?" Steve asks.
"I do it all the time." Scott says, then pauses, "I mean, once. In a lab. Then i passed out." He finishes. Becca laughs under her breath as she hears Scott cheer himself on, "I'm the boss, i'm the boss, i'm the boss."
The next thing the family of four knew, Scott had enlarged himself, standing at sixty-feet tall on the tarmac in front of them, holding onto Rhodey's ankle. Becca looks over at her mother in shock, "Mama, you knew he could do this?" She asks in disbelief.
Mary nods, her hazel eyes fixated on Scott's enormous form, "Hank tried it back in the eighties, but it didn't work. I guess him and Scott found a way to make it work." She answers her daughter as Scott laughs in surprise.
"I guess that's the signal." Steve comments, his eyes wide for a moment as he, Becca, Mary and Bucky step out of their hiding spot. Becca's father holding his wife to support her weight as she gets used to standing again.
"Way to go, Tic Tac!" Sam cheers from the sky.
Becca can hear her brother asking for Rhodey back but she doesn't have the time, she glances back at her parents. The two talking, she could see the concern on her father's face as he spoke with Mary. Becca and Steve take off running towards the jet, Mary and Bucky close behind. They almost make it to the hanger until Vision blasts a laser beam at the control tower adjacent to the hanger. It begins to fall to where Becca and her family are running towards. The teenager screams until Steve lifts her into his arms, Mary being carefully taken into her husband's arms. Wanda manages to catch the top of the falling tower with her wisps, giving the family more time to get to the jet. Becca looks behind her uncle's shoulder, her blue eyes widen when she sees Rhodey fly up behind Wanda and unleash a sonic blast on the Scarlet Witch to distract her from holding the tower up. The uncle and father push forward and make it into the hanger just in time.
Becca's eyes widen when she sees her Aunt Tasha in front of them, Steve and Bucky stop walking and set the girls down on the ground. "You're not gonna stop." Natasha says quietly.
"Nat, please.." Mary pleads with her sister, her daughter's aunt.
"You know we can't." Steve responds to his friend.
Natasha sighs, raising her wrists and aiming her widow bites at her friends. Her family. Becca sucks in a breath, "I'm gonna regret this." She mumbles, then lets loose one of her bites, it flies past the Rogers-Barnes family and hits the man behind them. It hits the King of Wakanda. She looks at the family of four, "Go." She tells them sternly.
Steve, Bucky and Mary rush to the jet, but Becca walks up to her aunt. "Aunt Tasha.." She mumbles, not knowing what else to say to her beloved aunt.
Natasha looks at Becca, giving her niece a weak smile, "I know. But you need to go, Маленький волк. Stay safe." Little Wolf. She says quietly as she sends another widow bite to the king in front of her.
When they walk onto the jet, Bucky instructs his wife to sit down in the seat behind the pilot's seat. "Just sit there, Becca's gonna find some medical supplies and you're going to tell her what to do to stitch you up, got it?" Bucky says to his wife. He was done believing she was okay. She wasn't, Mary was pale and sweating. Her back was torn with five claw marks dragging down the majority of her back. Steve glanced at his sister and brother as he sat in the pilot's seat and fires up the jet.
Becca can hear her mother protest as she finds the supplies she knows she will need to help her mother, "James, i'm okay-"
"You're not. Stop lying to yourself, please, Mary. Just let us take care of you for once." Bucky says, cutting his wife off, his presses his lips against hers briefly to keep her quiet, then presses his lips to her forehead. Becca cautiously walked out from the back with the medical supplies she had been able to find.
"We'll be there soon. Just sit tight." Steve says to his family as he powers the guns to the jet, breaking down the debris in front of the exit while he slowly raises the jet off the ground. Bucky holds his wife chest to chest with her legs straggling his lap as Becca attempts to peel off her mother's uniform and repulser gloves.
"Just hang on, alright, моя любовь?" My love. Bucky says quietly to his wife as she whimpers when their daughter begins to clean the wounds. The mother nods as she leans into her husband's embrace.
Becca looks up as she cleans the wounds of the blood around them carefully, "Just tell me what to do, Mama." She says softly. Mary then begins to guide her daughter in how to properly clean the wounds and stitch them. Becca does everything her mother instructs her to do to the best of her ability. And three hours later, Becca is wrapping her mother's wounds in gauze as she attempts to sleep in Bucky's arms. The sting of the alcohol used to clean her back kept her awake much to Mary's dismay. Becca stands up to put the medical supplies away when she turns back to look at her parents, her father watches his wife closely. They both knew she was still awake due to her breathing, it wasn't steady like a sleeping person's breathing pattern would be.
When Mary tries to shift on her husband's lap, her back shoots pain throughout her body. She hisses in pain and Bucky is instantly trying to soothe his wife, "You're okay, моя любовь. I have you." My love. He says, trying to reassure her. Becca can hear her father whispering tender nothings into her mother's ear as an attempt to calm her. To take her mind off the pain in her back. The daughter looks over on the counter of the small alcove she was in on the jet, spotting a hair brush with hair ties on the handle. She smiled weakly, knowing it was her aunt's brush that laid before her. Her mind was brought to when Natasha braided Becca's hair in Sam's home when they were taking down Shield and Hydra back in 2014. The memory made her smile, giving her the sense of hope that she needed in the moment.
When Becca walks back to her parents, hair brush in hand, she squats behind her mother, looking up at her father. "Mama's hair is long. It might touch her back and hurt her accidentally. I can braid it." She says. Her father nods, a small smile on his lips as he watches his daughter get on her knees and begin to brush her mother's hair.
Bucky looks towards his brother in law as Becca continues to braid her mother's hair, "What's gonna happen to your friends?" He asks his brother curiously.
A long pause is held between the brothers until the uncle lets out a sigh, shaking his head, "Whatever it is, we'll deal with it." He answers. Becca knew the 'we' her uncle was referring to was her mother and himself. Her uncle didn't care about the consequences that laid before him and his family, so long as they were safe.
Bucky watches his daughter before letting out air he didn't know he was holding in a sigh, "I don't know if i'm worth all of this, Steve." He mutters and Becca pauses her braiding motions to look up at her father in disbelief.
"Papa-"
"Mary was hurt badly because of this. Is it really worth it?" Bucky asks, cutting his daughter off before she could protest.
The mother slowly blinks her eyes open, she manages to use what little strength she has at the moment to place her hand against her husband's bearded cheek, drawing his attention. "You've always been worth it, James." She mumbles to him softly.
The uncle hesitates, his head turning back to look at his family briefly, "What you did all those years, that wasn't you. You didn't have a choice." Steve says, trying to reassure his brother that he was innocent.
"I know." Bucky replies softly, his eyes leaving his wife and daughter to look out the window, "But i did it." He says as his eyes leave the window and look straight at his brother in law.
"Winter did all those horrible acts. Not you." Mary says, "He isn't you. And you aren't him." She finishes, then smiles softly when she feels Becca finish the intricate braid she had done. Thor had taken the time to teach Becca how to plait like the Asgardians did. It gave the god of thunder pride when Becca plaited his hair before everything happened with Ultron, separating the god from his little warrior. When Becca shifts, she's in front of her mother's face. Mary places her hand on her daughter's cheek, a smile gracing her still pale lips, "Thank you, Baby."
Becca smiles, nodding as she leans into her mother's touch, "Of course, Mama." She replies.
The daughter watches as her parents lock eyes with each other, "But it was still me that killed all those people for Hydra. It was still my hand that pulled the trigger. That wrapped my hands around their throats." He says sternly, shocking his family with his outburst. The family was stunned to silence, neither Mary, Becca nor Steve knew what to say so they just left it alone.
Two more hours later, Steve is landing the quinjet outside of a cave in Siberia. Mary is on her feet for the first time in five hours with the help of her husband and daughter. The mother had told her daughter that she did a good job at patching her up. She felt okay despite the pain. Mary wasn't out of the fight yet. The mother and daughter walk over to Bucky as he picks a rifle out of the line up in front of him. Becca watches her father as he looks over at her, "Which one do you want?" He asks.
Becca steps up beside her father as she takes in the different guns and rifles in front of her. She looked between two before picking the one she thought would work the best for her. She looks at her family, "Hopefully the training i got can come in handy with taking the doctor down." She says.
Mary smiles at her daughter, "It will." She reassures Becca as Steve opens the door to the blistering cold of the outside. The mother and daughter walk up beside Bucky and Steve, looking out to the snowing mountain range of Siberia.
The uncle looks over at his brother in law and sister, "You remember the time we had to ride back from Rockaway Beach in the back of a freezer truck?" Steve asks them. Becca looks up at her family surrounding her, smiling softly. She always enjoyed listening to the stories her uncle or parents would tell of their life before World War two.
The mother laughs in remembrance and Bucky smirks, looking at Steve, "Was that the time we used our train money to buy hot dogs?" Bucky asks.
"You blew three bucks trying to win that stuffed bear for me." Mary teases her husband, "Despite me telling you i didn't need it." She says as her fingers intertwine with her husband's.
"And it was completely worth it. What did you name it again?" Bucky teases, looking down at his petite wife. His petite nurse.
"Mr. Stuffington." Steve quips before Mary can respond.
Becca's blue eyes widen as she gasps, she looks up at her parents, "That was the bear i had growing up." She mutters, "I loved him."
Mary nods in disbelief, "I saved him, i can't believe i forgot that." She says. Bucky and Steve exchange happy glances, smiling at Becca and Mary. "I put him in you nursery before you were born. He was your favorite thing." She adds and Bucky is in shock. He never thought he had impacted his daughter's life. But he had found out that the stuffed bear he won for Mary before they were dating was the same toy that his own daughter had cherished in the first five years of her life.
Becca giggles as she looks up at her father and uncle, "He's probably a hundred years old now." She mumbles.
Steve smiles, placing his hand on her shoulder, "So are we, B." He teases his niece.
