09. Groupchats
Peter stepped out from the men's bathroom wearing his homemade suit. He had stashed their combat suits in his backpack and hid it in a bathroom stall. Becca had changed first. Her new suit was something he thought suited her well. It was essentially a female version of The Winter Solider's outfit. The fitted leather, long sleeved top with close fitting combat pants. She had combat boots as well that reached her mid calf. Peter thought she looked breathtaking. While he was over here dressed in a blue hoodie, a red vest with his spider logo spray painted on the chest and blue sweats. His mask was red and the goggles he had made were sub par at best.
They had spotted Sinclair as they thought they would. He had been following Becca for a week after the funeral. It was Becca's idea to stage their first date as a cover to trap him. But Tony, being Tony, went overboard and put them up in a nice restaurant. They liked it, and the gesture was well received, but they had planned for something more low key. So the two had to improvise their plan to wait until Sinclair had left the building before they could capture him.
The plan was that they would capture and muzzle him so that he couldn't speak. Being that he had the ability to bend anyone to do his will with only his words. Steve was waiting patiently with agents from the Avengers Facility for the word to collect the mad man once the young couple had apprehended him. The uncle would come in and take the man away.
But what the two teenagers didn't plan on was Sinclair's entourage of Hydra thugs. They thought he was working alone the whole time. Not knowing he was growing Hydra again. Cut off one head, two more shall take it's place. They needed to act quick if they didn't want Hydra resurfacing.
So where the couple were at the moment were of the roof of the building they were just in. Their enhanced eyesight and hearing coming in handy as they waited and watched for Sinclair to come out of the restaurant.
"What're you gonna do for the projects we missed at school." Becca asks as she braids her hair on top of the roof where they waited. She had been keeping it braided because it stayed out of her face better and she liked how it looked with her Papa's uniform.
"I've been texting with Ned and Harry about them. They said they'd help us play catch up. It shouldn't be too hard honestly, just tedious. Both of us were and still are A students." Peter said as he whipped out his phone to show his girlfriend the group chat, "We've been wanting to add you to the chat but didn't know if you were into that."
Becca smiles softly, nodding, "I'd like that very much." She said softly, "Maybe MJ, Michelle and i will start one, leave you boys out." She teases, sticking her tongue out in the process. Causing her boyfriend to laugh.
"Girls only and boys only chats and then the one with the six of us?" Peter quips, draping his arm around Becca as they continued to wait for Sinclair. He was anxious, his first take down of a bad guy. Becca had been through this twice now. He was a newbie compared to his experienced girlfriend.
Becca giggles, nodding, "Yup-" She starts but pauses, "You can have more six people in a group chat?" She asks, quickly pulling out her phone.
Peter laughs, nodding as he starts to instruct her as to how to go about setting one up, "Just type in all the names you want." He tells her, chuckling when he watches her add her mother, uncle and brother. The genuine happiness radiating off the teenage girl was contagious. He watched as she texted her new group chat, seeing the replies roll in from her mother and brother. They knew Steve wasn't going to reply while he was waiting for his signal.
Few hours pass before the two get any sign of Sinclair from their perch on the roof. Two big Hydra thugs were escorting him out of the building as three other men was tailing him. More than the two had counted for.
"B, what's the play." The two heard Steve ask using the coms.
"There's two big thugs and three normal ones guarding him." She replied, "I can take them with help. Luckily i ran into Spider Man." She stated, "He agreed to help me."
"The red and blue man from the Youtube that's been going around? Your Ma showed me a video of him catching a bus with his hands." Steve replied.
"He's been helping Queens. He's good, Uncle Steve. I trust him."
"Alright, but be careful. Remember your training. Use their weight against them." Steve said before he signed off the coms.
Peter crouches as he holds his mask in his hands, "You trust me?" He asks Becca.
"With my life, Benji." She replied truthfully. She slips on her mask and holds on tightly to him as Peter shot out a web from his shooters and swung them from the ceiling onto the side of the building wall. "Drop me here." She tells him. Peter looks at her hesitantly but nods, he adjusts her in his arm, holding her by holding onto her arm. He swings her with ease and she flips, landing few feet away from the goons silently. He shoots out a web quickly, flinging one of the smaller thugs into the alleyway. Sticking him to the wall.
Becca took in a breath as she calmed her heartbeat, slowing it down as she slipped into the shadows of the night. Her eyes trained on the two remaining goons that were taller than her, but not the two big thugs. She pulled out an extendable wire from her pocket. Gripping one end, she flung it around the first target, choking the thug as she dragged him into the alley way where Peter was waiting to web them to the walls. The other thugs had finally noticed the two missing. Tailing back to the alley.
"We can't lose him, Benji. I got them, go watch him. Web him up." She told him quietly, knowing he could hear her.
"On it. Be safe, show them what you can do." He replied quickly as she heard a thwip from the side of the building, knowing he had left.
Becca looked around, taking in her surroundings as the Hydra thugs closed in on her slowly. The two bigger men would be tricky, but she knew that if she played her cards right, she could take them down. She remembered taking down med of similar size back in Russia.
"It's a tiny girl." One thug commented to his fellow lackeys.
"Does she think she can take us?" Another piped in, only fueling Becca's chances against the three cocky men.
"Why don't you come closer and find out?" Becca taunted.
The smaller man pulled out a gun, aiming at Becca. But she was faster than he had anticipated. Becca was in front of him before he knew it. She disarmed him and kicked the gun aside. She kicked the man in his gut with her knee, then raised her arms together to knock him out, slamming her elbows down on the back of his neck to subdue him. The two bigger thugs watched in amazement as the small girl before them singe handedly took down the man before her. But it also made them furious. That a little girl could take one of their own down so easily.
The two men charged her, giving her little time to collect herself. Her eyes widened as one of the men before her swung his fist at her. She ducked just in time, sliding between the two men. She knew she could use her uncle's advice. Use their strength against them. But she also knew how to render the muscles useless of her opponents body. She quickly punched the nerve spots on each of the men on the arms and backs. Their arms going limp as they topple over each other. Neither unconscious, but incapacitated and unable to move until their muscles regain their feelings, which wont be for a few hours.
"Benji, where is he?" Becca asked her boyfriend who was tailing their target at the moment, she picked up the gun the first thug had on him, putting it in her holster that was empty. She never cared for guns, but she knew they were they could be used efficiently to disarm someone instead of killing them.
"I webbed him and muffled him when he turned into a parking garage. I just need you to send your uncle the signal." Peter replies, "He had a gun on him but i disarmed him when he pulled it on me. For the supposed leader of Hydra, he doesn't know combat well."
"He wouldn't. Science was his field of expertise." She stated back, "The parking garage few blocks up?"
"Yeah."
"On my way."
When the girl arrived, when she expected to see was what she had been told. But that wasn't what she walked into. Standing before her was an unconscious Peter on the ground of the garage and in front of him, Sinclair.
"What-"
"I'll stop you right there, Rebecca." Sinclair commands, Becca's body having no choice but to obey. "Did you expect me to go willingly? I thought you were smarter than that."
"But he told me you were apprehended." Becca mutters in disbelief.
"I knew i was being followed. So when he got to me, i simply told him to stop. And when you contacted him. He told you what i commanded him to say. To get you alone. Just the two of us. Like old times." Sinclair explained.
"You can't just use people like this. What was the point of being in the Red Room, in taking over Hydra." Becca questions, "You were my only friend, Demmy. That entire time in Russia, you were the one who was nice to me."
"Spoiled princess more like. I played you so easily when you were a child. You were so naive. So scared. Just begging for someone to come along and shape you."
"So why?"
"Because you would've been chosen to be the next Winter Solider. No, in-fact you were chosen. Brought to America and given the serum. But somehow, somehow you slipped from our grasp. Never again, Rebecca." Sinclair explained like it was basic knowledge for her to know that. She could hear her uncle trying to reach her through her com, but she couldn't reply. Her body not her own once again.
"So what're you going to do with me?" She asked, her voice wavering. She knew her uncle could hear her.
"B, what's your status?" Steve asked worriedly but received no reply.
"When Hydra fell we lost your father. Our prized killer. So you're going to get him back. You are the perfect bait to get him back into our grasp. And then once we have you both-" Sinclair trails off as he steps away from Peter's unconscious body, getting too close to Becca. "We will wipe you both and you will be punished for your insolence." Sinclair sneered at the girl.
"You won't break me. If the Red Room couldn't.." Becca faltered as Sinclair got in her face, his piercing eyes staring straight at her.
"I am not the Red Room. I am so much worse."
"Becca, i need a signal. Anything." Steve pleaded.
"Do it." She snapped at Sinclair, but also to her uncle. "Break me. But you lack the one thing that makes me strong." She snaps again.
"And what's that?" Sinclair asked sarcastically, tilting his head in amusement.
"Family." Steve Rogers said from the distance as he swung his shield at the thugs Sinclair had been hiding in the distance. The agents with Steve swarmed the garage, flanking the Hydra operatives and taking them down. Becca managed to break from the hold of Sinclair's words in time to catch the shield. Using the force she could muster, she shoved Sinclair back with the shield.
"Family is what makes me strongest." Becca snaps as she pressed her booted foot onto Sinclair's chest. "And it makes you weak." She adds as Steve places a muzzle on Sinclair's face. Sealing his fate as agents lift him up, putting him in handcuffs.
The teenager looks up at her uncle, holding out the shield, "I think this is yours." She tells him, smiling weakly. The uncle nods as he takes the shield, securing it on his back.
"You did good." Steve commends his niece, "It's over." He tells her.
Becca nods slowly, watching a van pull up. Agents putting Sinclair in the back as they climb in with him. "It's finally over." She mutters, then looks over at Peter. "B- Spider Man!" She exclaims, rushing over to his unconscious state. Becca lifts him up carefully, looking him over despite the mask covering his face. "Spidey, wake up." She tells him quietly.
After a few minutes, Peter slowly comes to. Groaning at the slight headache has, "What happened? Did i miss it?"
Becca chuckles, nodding slowly. "Kind of. He also controlled you as a trap for me."
Peter's eyes widen, "He didn't hurt you did he?" He asks worriedly, his eyes scanning her body carefully. The uncle watching the interaction closely but tuns away to handle transporting Sinclair to the Facility for questioning.
"No. I'm okay." She reassures her boyfriend. "But you should probably leave and head back to the apartment." She tells him, "My Uncle and i will stay behind."
Peter nods, "I'll grab something for us on the way back, okay? Our dinner was kinda interrupted despite it being on purpose."
Becca smiles, though Peter can't see it due to her mask covering her face up to her nose. "Delmar's and sparkling apple cider?"
"Perfect." Peter said as he stood up, squeezing her hand briefly as he jogged out of the parking garage, shooting a web and swinging away.
When Becca walks over to her uncle, his shoulder's are tense as he watches the van drive off, "Will they be okay? I know he's muzzled and everything, but he's a manipulater." She says quietly.
Steve nods, watching the taillights fade off in the distance before turning to his niece, "New suit?" He asks, smiling slightly. He gestures to Becca's Winter Solider gear.
Becca nods, "Mama had it made for me. She thought i could do good for Papa in this." She answered, "Also, i really like it." She adds.
"The mask is just like your Pa's." Steve comments, "Why the mask?"
"Because i want to live a normal teenage life and not have my hero life affect it." She responds truthfully. "This way people don't know it's me under here."
Steve nods, "I get it." He says, then pulls out his phone when it had been buzzing for a half hour straight. "Okay, this was distracting, what is happening?" He asks, showing his niece the phone. Tony and Mary talking on the group chat Becca had made for the family just before she and Peter spotted Sinclair.
The teenager laughs, "That's the group chat. It's so cool, Benji showed me. We can all talk together!" She exclaims, smiling widely underneath her mask, "I put, you, Mama, Buddy and myself on it. But i didn't add a name."
"Tony did from the looks of it." Steve says as he scrolls through what seems to be endless texts from his sister and her godson.
Becca giggles as she reads the name her brother had set as the group chat name. "Finally" she reads aloud, giggling, "I don't get it."
Steve chuckles, "I think he named it that because he was waiting for someone to make one."
"Oh! Then i agree." Becca states, laughing as she and her uncle walk up to the SUV. They climb in the backseat, the niece still showing her uncle how the group chat works.
