04. Secrets

"What do you mean you're not who you say you are, Fia?" Peter asks confusedly. His mind going a million miles a second as his senses feel like they've been dialed up to an eleven. He can hear everything, he can smell his Aunt May's perfume from two doors down which he could never do before.

"I'll explain everything later, but right now you need to come with me." She says, pulling his Midtown sweatshirt over his head, "I need you to see someone." She tells him, picking up her phone and calling her Mama. She slides her phone between her shoulder and her ear, she puts Peter's shoes on his feet. Quickly she grabs her jacket and boots, locking the door to their bedroom. "Mama?" She asks when she hears the ringing stop.

"Baby? I thought you were getting ready for bed? Did something happen?" Mary answers over the line.

"You could say that." Becca mutters as she hoists Peter onto her back, carrying him piggy back style as she climbs out the window, "Something's wrong with Benji." She tells her Mama, "Are you at the Avengers Facility?"

"I am, what's wrong with Peter?" Mary asks hesitantly, "Do we need to go to the tower? My lab equipment is still there." She says.

"Yeah, i'll meet you there, Mama." Becca says as she hangs up, shoving her phone into her pocket.

"You're so strong, Fia.. How are you so strong?" Peter mumbles, wincing at the bright lights of the cars as Becca had landed on the ground from the fire escape. The sounds and lights were making his head hurt worse. Everything attacking his senses at once.

"It's genetics." Becca huffs out, "Put your hoodie up, it'll block the lights some." She suggests. Her best friend nods slowly, pulling his hoodie over his head.

Becca brushes past people as she runs as fast as she can down the sidewalks, she can hear her phone talking. Friday must have been activated remotely.

"Miss Barnes, your Mother is on her way to the Tower as you requested. Take a right at the intersection." Friday says from her back pocket.

"Thanks, Friday." Becca states, huffing as she follows the instructions the AI gave her.

"Who's Friday? She sounds nice." Peter rambles, "And why did she call you Miss Barnes?"

"Because my real name is Rebecca Sofia Barnes. My Papa is Bucky Barnes." She tells him, "Steve isn't my dad, he's my uncle. My Mama is Mary Rogers-Barnes. But you know her as Elizabeth Bryne."

"Whoa.." Peter mutters half conscious, "If Ned knew that he'd love you forever." He jokes.

Becca laughs, "Because he doesn't already? He thinks my adopted dad is Captain America."

"Touché." Peter mumbles, "Why did you lie?"

"I didn't want too, but my Papa is wanted by every government in the world right now. He did a lot of bad things. My Mama and Uncle Steve thought it was best to keep my real identity hidden."

"But why didn't you at least tell me, Uncle Ben and Aunt May? We would've kept your secret. Don't you trust us?"

Becca stops running, her eyes widening. She looks over her shoulder to look at Peter, "It wasn't up to me. If it was, i would've told you right away." She says as she looks up, seeing the tower. She walks in when the doors part for her. She hears Friday greet her and she sees her Mama's car pull up.

"Baby!" Mary says when she exits her car, rushing inside the tower, helping her daughter set Peter down as they enter the elevator. The mother looks over Peter, checking his vitals, "He has a fever, a bad one. He's clammy as well and sweating. Like his body is fighting something." The Doctor says as the doors open to Mary's lab. She helps Becca carry the teenage boy to her table, laying him down on it carefully.

Peter hisses as the cold table comes in contact with his heated body. His eyes are closed when Becca pulls his hoodie off of him. He winces slightly when he feels a needle enter his arm.

"What happened to him? This reminds me of what happened to your Uncle Steve." Mary says in a hushed voice, not wanting Peter to overhear.

"I- I can hear you Ms Liza.." Peter mumbles, "It.. it feels like my senses we dialed up to an eleven."

Mary's eyes widen, "Peter, can you hear my heartbeat?" She asks

"Yeah, and the cars outside honking at each other. I can hear two people arguing about three blocks away too. I can smell how sterile the room is as well.."

Becca looks at her Mama, "He knows as well, Mama. He overheard me talking to Uncle Steve from the bathroom while i was on the balcony with the window closed." She says.

"Peter, did anything happen on your field trip today?" Mary asks, pulling out her tablet as Friday scans the boy's body.

"A spider bit me i think.." He mutters, "It didn't hurt a lot.. We were in Uncle Ben and Doctor Sinclair's spider room."

"Spider room?"

Becca nods, "Uncle Ben has serums he gives to different types of spiders and puts them into one room to see how they react to the serum."

Mary's eyes widen, "Peter.. I think you have a mutated form of my brother's serum coursing through your body. It was mixed with spider DNA as well." She says.

"Will it hurt him?" Becca asks

Mary looks over the boy, pushing his curls away from his forehead, "It'll be an adjustment, and i dont know what side effects he'll have from it. But he's okay at the moment."

"So i have powers?" Peter grumbles out, "Do you know what kind of powers?"

Mary shakes her head, "I wish i did, Pete. But i don't. All i know if that you'll possibly have super strength and i already know you have heightened senses. Your body will adjust with time and practice. But things are going to change."

"Change?" Peter asks. Becca sits beside him in a chair, smiling softly at him.

"You're not going to be the same as you were. You've noticed that you don't need glasses anymore, haven't you?" Mary states, writing things down on her tablet.

"I- Yeah.. i can see clearly, better even." He answers truthfully. Smiling at Becca, "How do i keep this hidden when we're at school?" He asks.

Becca hesitates, "Well.. We have the weekend, so maybe we can figure out the rest of your new abilities over that time.. and come up with a plan?" The teenager suggests, "It gives me time to explain everything too.. I don't want anymore secrets between us."

Peter smiles softly, taking Becca's hand into his own, "I don't either." He says, then looks up at Mary, "So you're not really Elizabeth Bryne?" He asks

Mary shakes her head, smiling softly, "That name is just my cover when i'm out in public. I'm really Mary Rogers- Barnes. Becca, or Sofia, is my daughter."

"Whoa. Fia told me some things when we were on our way here.. but my head was pounding so much.." Peter explains, "So.. How are you still alive? The history books say you were born in 1920, how-?"

"It's a long story, but the short version is that when we fought Schmidt, that insane man injected me with a serum that froze my body chemistry. I was pregnant with Becca at the same time." Mary explains some of her story to the young teenager.

Peter hesitates, "Wait.. So that means you're not sixteen, Fia?"

Becca nods, "I was born in 1945.. I was affected by the serum too." She explains quietly.

"So what did you tell us that was true?" He asks

"I was born on Thanksgiving.. that is true. And I was kept captive in Russia since 1950 until three years ago when i managed to escape." She says, "All of that is true. I never wanted to lie."

Peter sighs, nodding slowly. Trying to let go of Becca's hand but not being able too, "I'm not doing this, i swear." He tells her, "It's like my hand is super sticky."

Mary walks over, inspecting them, "You're super adhesive." She says, "Your hands and probably your feet can stick to anything, like a spider can crawl on walls."

Peter's eyes widen in excitement, "I can walk on walls?" He asks gleefully.

"Most likely, do you want to test the theory?"

Peter nods excitedly as he stands up, taking his shoes off, but has trouble getting his shoes to get off his hands as they stick to his palm, "Okay.. stop sticking." He tells his hands, huffing in annoyance. "This is gonna be a while.."

After a few tries, and several hours later, Peter got the hang of his stickiness. Soon enough he was standing on the side of the wall. "This is so cool, and yet so terrifying at the same time." The boy states as he continues walking upwards towards the ceiling. Over the several hours of him trying to control his stickiness, his body was also adjusting to the new changes.

"Just be careful, Benji!" Becca shouts as he reaches the tall ceiling, smiling wide, "You don't want your stickiness to stop." She states, giggling.

Peter hesitates, then grins. He swings his hands onto the ceiling, letting himself dangle from his fingertips. An idea pops into his head when he lets go of one hand from the ceiling. "I'm gonna jump!" He exclaims, causing the mother and daughter's eyes to go wide with fear.

"You're gonna what?!" Becca screams as Peter flips himself off of the ceiling, landing on his feet with his knees bent on the floor in front of Becca. "Geez, Benji! Don't do things like that!"

Peter chuckles, standing up, stretching his limbs, "Sorry, Fia. I've honestly never felt better in my life. I feel like i can run across the city and not get tired."

"That's cause you can now." Mary inputs, "I had Friday run tests on your blood. You have the stickiness that we've already tested, and you just tested out your enhanced agility. You have enhanced strength, possibly stronger than my husband and brother, so you'll have to keep that in check. Also your stamina is better, which is why you feel so adrenalized right now."

Peter smiles, looking at Fia, "We could do like outings, now that i know who you are and i have powers. We could stop bad guys and stuff." He says excitedly.

"We should focus on other things first, Benji. Like getting your powers under control." Becca replies, "We still don't know the full extent of your powers.."

Mary nods, "So just lay low for now, alright? Just focus on school and your friends." She tells them, then looks at Becca, "Peter can i talk to Becca in private?"

Peter nods, "Oh, yeah sure." He states, "I- uh.. will be out.. there." He states, exiting the room, his head still pounding but not nearly as it was before. He'll have to get used to hearing things all at once. But he noticed that when Becca was in the room, it was easy to focus on one thing in the room to tune out the other noise. Her heartbeat.

"Mama? What is it?" Becca asks nervously.

"I know you want to come home. But i think what's best for you is to stay with the Parker's and continue living a normal teenage life." Mary tells her, "I know that this was only suppose to be until Ultron was destroyed, but i think this is good for you."

Becca's eyes widen, "But- Mama.. I miss everyone so much. I want to go home with you. I like staying with Uncle Ben and Aunt May but i want to be with you and Uncle Stevie, and- and Buddy." She rambles, trying to convince her mother to let her come home.

Mary wraps her arms around her daughter, "I know you do. But i also know that you want to stay with Peter. You have that sense of wanting to help him like i do with my patients." She says quietly.

Becca sniffles her nose, wiping her eyes of the unfallen tears. "I just miss you so much, Mama.. I miss Papa."

Mary's heart hurts when she thinks about her husband, her Sarge. Because she misses him too. "I miss him too. But he is keeping himself safe for us so that one day he can come home."

The young girl nods slowly, "Yeah.." She mumbles softly, "I- Benji's waiting for me.. we should get going before Aunt May and Uncle Ben figure out we're gone."

Mary nods, "Of course. And i need to get back to the Facility. We made you a room there. For when you do come home. Wanda and I put it together, you would like her and her brother Pietro, though he's still in a coma from his injuries in Sokovia."

Becca nods, smiling a little, "I saw you on the tv, you're apart of the team now, Mama?"

The mother nods again, "I am, it's exciting but also terrifying. I go by Starlight now."

Becca grins, "I should have a code name too, I can't use Black Widow, that's Auntie Nat." She states, "Peter and I will come up with superhero names." She tells her Mama, hugging her mother close before the two break apart.

"Well let me know what they are when you think of them. His should be something with spiders."

Becca nods, "Agreed." She states as she walks out of the room with her Mama, "Benji!" She greets, rushing to him and hugging him, smiling.

"Hi, Fia." Peter greets back, his arms instinctively wrapping themselves around her small frame compared to his now bulkier built of his body, "I'm not used to feeling strong."

"Yeah, it'll take some getting used too. But while we do that, we can come up with our superhero names." Becca tells him, "Yours needs to do with spiders." She states, "No questions about it. You got your powers from a spider so you're gonna name yourself after it."

Peter chuckles, nodding as he slips his shoes back onto his feet, pulling his hoodie over his head, "My fever broke. I still feel hot, but i think that's going to be a new normal."

"I think so too. But we have the weekend to figure things out too." Becca says, "You don't have webs do you, Benji? Cause spiders can make their own webs."

Peter thinks, patting himself as if to check himself, "I don't think i can do webs, Fia."

"That's too bad, cause you could swing from buildings high up in the sky if you had web powers. That would be so cool, so much faster too." She tells him, smiling as she walks down the sidewalk, weaving her and Peter in and out of the crowds of people coming their way.

Peter smiles, nodding, "That would be cool." He says, his hearing picking up on her heartbeat. His new found gravity to the new world he was apart of now. "I could probably make something like webbing in science class. Wanna try it with me?"

Becca turns her head to look over her shoulder at her best friend, "Where you go, i go, Benji." She states, "I'll follow you anywhere."
