Battlefield
Rebecca is a fighter.
Not just physically but mentally too.
She is still alive. She is still fighting. And if she keeps fighting, she'll survive.
Stiles had been on the phone to Lydia the past couple of minutes, and from what I had listened to, she wasn't taking the news about Bex so well.
"I cannot believe you let her come with you in the first place"
"You know how stubborn she is!"
"She's definitely going to be okay though, right?" Stiles hesitated before answering. "Stiles?"
"I honestly couldn't tell you" he replied. "Lydia, please don't cry"
"I can't lose her like I lost Allison. I should have stopped her. As soon as I got that feeling, I should have stopped her from leaving"
"Like a Banshee feeling?"
"Like a Banshee feeling" She repeated.
"Did you-"
"Scream? Yes. And I freaked the hell out of your dad and Mason"
"Look, Lydia-"
"I know, I should have told you"
"It's not your fault" Lydia didn't say anything. "Look, I've gotta go but I'll text you when we get back. Okay?"
"Okay"
Stiles hung up and came and sat next to Scott.
"Is she healing?"
Scott shook his head in response.
"She's definitely going to heal though, right?" I asked.
Scott shrugged.
I sighed.
"Scott, it's okay. This wasn't your fault"
"I promised that I would protect her and I couldn't even do that"
Promises are a commitment.
Which, I guess, is why Becca never made promises. She didn't want to let anyone down.
But in the church, she promised me she'd be back. Even if she did say it for reassurance, she still promised. And she promised she'd always be with me; in my heart.
That's what love is. Love is keeping that promise.
~
"Do you remember your first full moon?" Stiles randomly asked Scott.
"Vaguely"
"I chained you up and you went crazy. We had an argument because you made out with Lydia"
"Oh, yeah?"
"Well I told Rebecca about you that night. She didn't freak out, she didn't cry, she wasn't angry. But she wanted to help you. And how old was she, like twelve?"
"What are you trying to say, Stiles" Scott asked impatiently.
"Finding out your brother is a werewolf is a lot to deal with. And turning your sister into a werewolf is also a lot to deal with. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that Rebecca was strong for you. And right now, she doesn't need you drowning in your own guilt. She needs you to be strong for her"
Scott glanced down at his shoes, not meeting Stiles' eyes.
"And you, Liam" He said. I looked up. "Remember your first full moon?"
I rolled my eyes. "How could I forget"
"Do you remember how she was there for you? She ran into the woods after you because she wanted to prove that she'd be there. Every step of the way" Stiles said.
I want to be there for her. I will be there for her. The way she was for me. She helped me overcome everything. And most of all, she kept me grounded. I'll do whatever she wants me to do. Whether she wants me to stay by her side, or leave her to deal with it on her own. I'll give her space, I'll give her time and I'll love her. Just like she did for me.
"I'll never leave her"
"Good. Because she was always there for you two. She supported me when I got possessed, even when I tried to kill her. She was there for Lydia, she still is there for Lydia. She's been strong for all of us, no matter what. And we need to do the same for her"
"Okay" Scott said quietly.
"Promise?" Stiles asked.
"Promise"
The two older boys looked at me.
"Promise"
~
"Is she okay?" Melissa McCall asked frantically as we stepped inside her house.
"She's alive" Scott answered.
"Does that mean she's going to turn?"
"We think so" He started to climb up the stairs, Becca still in his arms. Melissa, Stiles and I followed.
Scott reached her room and set her down on the bed.
"What do we do now?" Stiles questioned, biting at his fingernails.
"We wait"
"How long will it take?" Melissa asked.
"I don't know, mom!" Scott snapped. She stepped back and averted her eyes to the floor. "I'm sorry" he said.
She shook her head. "It's okay"
"Not just for that. For everything" his voice cracked.
I looked between the two McCall's. It was heartbreaking to see Scott so upset with himself. It's like he thinks it's all his fault when really, all of us could have stopped her. I was the one to let her go on her own. But nobody knew what was going to happen.
She made her own choice. A decision to save her friends. That's all she's ever wanted to do. Save her friends. Whether it was from themselves, or from something else. And she never stopped fighting.
"She saved us, mom. She swore to protect us and she did" Scott said, pulling Melissa into a tight hug.
"Like Allison" she whispered. A smile tugged at Scott's lips.
"Like Allison"
~
Her eyes.
That was her first fearure to capture my attention.
They were dark blue but they also had a tint of green in them. It was an unusual contrast but there was something captivating about them.
I remember walking down the school hallways with Mason. She was with Lydia. They were both laughing about something.
As I walked past, her eyes caught mine and I wanted to stop and stare into them forever. They were mesmerising and it felt like I would be able get lost in them forever.
She smiled at me as I walked past. I couldn't help but smile back at her. Lydia whipped her head around to look at me and then she looked back at Rebecca, nudging her.
That was the first time I ever saw Rebecca McCall.
~
"You can go home if you want" Scott said to both Stiles and I.
"You're kidding right?" Stiles frowned at his best friend.
"You don't have to stay here"
"I'm not leaving her" I said firmly.
Scott looked over at Stiles. "She's practically family to me, Scott. I'm not going anywhere"
Somebody knocked on the door and all of us turned our heads around. It opened and Lydia came in.
"I'm sorry" Her voice cracked and Stiles pulled her into a hug making her small cries become muffled.
I bit my lip and squeezed my eyes shut to stop any tears from falling. I had to stay strong.
"I should have stopped her. I'm so sorry, Scott" Lydia said once she'd pulled away from Stiles' embrace.
Scott shook his head. "You didn't know"
Lydia sighed and sat down on the foot of the bed. "Is she okay?"
"She's started to heal" Scott said.
"Does that mean she's going to wake up as a werewolf?" I asked.
"I don't know how it's going to work. All I know is that the full moon is definitely going to affect her if she wakes up in the next few hours" Scott ran a hand through his hair as he looked down at Rebecca.
"Well if she wakes up within the next hour, it's likely that she's going to shift immediately" Lydia said.
Scott looked at her weirdly.
"What? I spoke to Derek before I came" She said in a shrill voice.
"Do you think we need to chain her up?" Stiles asked Scott, worry clear in his voice.
"I don't know. What if she wakes up human?"
"I think we should take her to the lakehouse" Stiles said.
Scott looked down at Rebecca's arm where the bite mark should be.
"No. There's not enough time. She's healing too fast. We'll have to take her to Derek's"
Scott lifted her up and Lydia, Stiles and I climbed down the stairs.
"Where are you going?" Melissa asked, stepping out into the hall.
"We're taking her to Derek's. We think she's going to shift" Scott explained.
"Let me come with you"
All four of us exchanged glances.
"Melissa, we'll take care of her" Stiles reassured.
I gave her my best supportive smile and followed Lydia out to her car. Her and Stiles got in the front and Scott and I sat in the back with Rebecca lay across us.
Although it was approaching early morning, the full moon was still visible in the sky. Scott glanced down at his watch and then at Rebecca.
Lydia turned around in her seat and Scott gave her a nod.
"Go"
~
The ride to Derek's was short. Nobody really spoke. Tension hung in the air. I could smell fear on the three of them.
Once the car pulled up I quickly hopped out. Scott lifted Rebecca's limp body into his arms and we quickly made our way to Derek's loft.
Once the doors opened, Derek lifted Becca from Scott's arms and took her over to the opposite side of the loft.
Kira came over and wrapped her arms around Scott. Malia clapped a hand on my shoulder and then went over to Stiles.
Lydia turned to face me. "You okay?"
I hesitated for a moment. "Honestly? No"
"She's going to be okay" Derek said as he walked back over to us.
"How long will it take for her to wake up?" I asked Derek.
"Judging by how fast she's healing, not long"
"Do you think those chains are gonna hold her?" Kira asked.
"Probably not" Derek shrugged.
"How strong is she going to be?" Malia questioned.
"Strong. Really strong"
Derek then noticed the nervous look on Scott's face.
"You're going to be fine. Just stick to the plan"
"What if she's too strong to handle. She could hurt one of us" Scott looked at all of us who were nervously waiting.
"She might find an anchor straight away" Braeden piped up.
Derek nodded in agreement. "Isaac found his anchor one of the first times he shifted"
Everybody turned and looked at me.
"Would I be her anchor?" I asked.
"It's likely" Scott replied. I bit my lip and nodded.
"She could wake up human though, couldn't she?" Lydia asked.
"She could"
"How do we know she's definitely going to be a werewolf?" Stiles questioned.
"Well it runs in your genes" Derek said. "Scott turned into a werewolf so she should be a werewolf too"
I took a deep shaky breath and started to pace the room.
Derek and Scott started talking in hushed voices and I tried to listen in to what they were saying.
"It's different for some people" Derek said.
"Do you think she's going to be okay with it?" Scott asked him.
Derek let out a small laugh. "Scott, remember when we fought for Satomi's pack?"
"Yeah?"
"She saved so many of them. Allison taught her so much. She's easily going to handle being a werewolf"
Scott let out a long sigh. "It's twice now. Twice I've not been able to protect someone I love"
"But you saved your sister"
"I couldn't save Allison"
A growl captured everyone's attention and I snapped my head around in the direction of it. The sound of chains being pulled against made my eyes widen.
"Rebecca?" Scott said as he slowly approached her. All of us stared at her apphrehensively.
She growled again and her head turned around to face us.
The first thing I noticed was her eyes.
They weren't their usual gorgeous colour.
And they weren't bright yellow like mine.
They were green.
