Chapter 34

Once everyone was gone, Bon stepped towards the Mamushi and Juzo, the two of them remained kneeling on the ground.

"Mamushi!" He called.

"M-Master Ryuji!"

"Your eye, I'll get the doc!"

"I-I'm sorry. He's alone, the master's alone! Save him!"

Despite his unchanging expression, Kiara knew Bon was scared for his dad— not just because of the fear rolling of of him, but by the tightening of his fists and the slight tense of his shoulders.

"Don't worry, Bon. I'll get her to the infirmary." Juzo said, picking up Mamushi bridal style and standing up.

"Then what, you goin'?" Bon asked.

"Of corse, I'll head up as soon as I got her settled, as for you and your pals you'd better head back to the inn for now." He turned and looked at Konekomaru and Shima, a mix of anger and absolute seriousness on his face. "Keep him safe. Anything happens to him, you're dead! Got it, Renzo, Koneko?!"

Shima raised a hand dismissively as Koneko looked like he could deteriorate from a single touch, "Yeah, we got it. He's safe with us."

Juzo nodded, then looked towards Kiara, "Hoshino, I'm trusting you with Bon's safety as well."

That's probably not the best idea, but alright. Kaira said, just giving him a small nod— though she had no clue why he was trusting her to keep Bon safe. He barely knew her. She wasn't able to ask any questions since he had already walked away, leaving the group standing in the doorway.

"Well, there's nothing we can do you guys. You heard what my bro said. We have to go back to the inn." Shima said.

"Are you gonna give up just like that, Pinkie?" Kiara asked, sending a glare towards Shima.

"Yo, you guys!" Someone called out and Kiara looked down the hall to see Shura walking up to them with a familiar sword and a stack of ponchos in her hands. "Come here for a second. I've got something for ya."

"Ma'am, how's Rin?" Sheimi asked.

"The top brass heard about his flare up, and they just sentenced him to death."

Around her, Kiara felt everyone's fear spike up at the news.

"That's an order from the Vatican, and it can't be overturned by anyone. Anycrap," she held out Rin's sword towards Bon, "Here you go Suguro. I'm trusting you with this thing."

"Kurikara." Bon muttered as he took it.

"Oh, and here's a letter your dad wrote to Rin. It says we're going to need his power to destroy the Impure King. Rin did say he's down to fight. But first he's gonna need you to bust him out. The only way he'll get a pardon now is if he does something big and heroic." She dropped the ponchos she was holding on the ground in front of the group. "Here, these are Camo pouches, put 'em on and you'll be invisible. You can walk right up to his cell and no one's gonna notice you're there."

"Miss Kirigakure, time to go!" A man shouted, poking his head from around the corner.

"Okay!" Shura called back, then turned to look back at the group, "As you see, the order's got me on a tight leash, so I gotta behave. You have to figure it out from here, I'm countin' on you." With that Shura turned and walked down the hall, leaving the group to stand quietly for a second before Bon took the letter out of the envelope and started reading it.

Once he was done, he looked up and towards the group. Kiara watched as Sheimi bent down and grabbed one of the ponchos, a look of determination on her face.

"Let's go, guys! Rin needs our help!" She exclaimed.

"Help? I wanna get him out of there as much as anyone. The thing is we don't wanna piss off the Vatican." Shima said.

"But this is our one and only chance to save Rin! If we don't try we'll regret it!"

"Sheimi's right. Look, I don't give a shit if any of you hate Rin— and as much as I hate saying this— we kind of need him. Without his flames we might as well of already admitted defeat against the Impure King." Kiara said, bending over and picking up a poncho as well, she watched as Bon followed suite, putting the poncho before turning and starting to walk down the hall.

"Cell block's down this way." Bon said.

"B-Bon!" Konekomaru exclaimed.

"Thank you Suguro!" Sheimi said.

Kiara started walking, following close behind Bon, as the two of them walked down the hall, another pair of footsteps joined in.

"Are you cool with this Koneko?" Shima asked.

"We promised we'd protect Bon. Besides, Sheimi and Hoshino are right."

"W-What-? Dude we'd better do what Juzo said." Shima said.

"Oh stop being a scary cat Pinkie." Kiara called out, glancing over her shoulder."

"Move your ass Renzo!" Someone shouted and Kiara paused in her steps and looked behind her to watch as Kinzo darted out from one of the doorways and started running outside. "While you guys are at the inn taking a nap, I'll be spillin' my blood for Miyota!" He let out a hearty laugh.

I don't know anyone but him who would be that excited to go into battle. Well, except for me of course. Kiara thought, slicking her tail with amusement as she turned back around and followed Bon around the corner.

"It looks like you set off a chain reaction." Kiara said, walking just behind Bon. "One again your leadership shines through, Ryuji."

Bon paused for a split second before continuing to lead the group to the cell block. "I couldn't just stand by and do nothing, besides, you're right. We do need his flames."

"Damn right we do."

The group soon got to a darker hallway, and looking up ahead Kiara could see two men standing guard in front of what looked to be the entrance to the cell block.

"Ow!" Shima exclaimed from behind her.

"Look for the last time, no talking." One of the guards said.

"I didn't. I thought it was you." The other said.

"I didn't say anything. Quit messing around."

"I'm not, geez."

As the two were arguing, the group walked through the doorway and safely passed by the guards.

"That was way too close." Sheimi said.

"Thanks for stepping on my heel, Koneoko." Shima said.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."

"The only problem with these ponchos is we can't see each other." Izumo said. "Other than that they're pretty cool."

"I wonder if Shura would let me keep this after the mission." Kiara wondered out loud.

"Why would you wanna keep it?" Sheimi asked.

Kiara grinned, "Oh, no particular reason." She said.

"Shh, the cells coming up." Bon said, "That's a weird looking door."

In front of one of the cells, there was a large metal door that looked to have a face. Once they got closer to it a like started flashing and it making noise.

"Wee woo wee woo wee woo wee woo!" It started laughing once they all stood in front of it, the barred window curving up into some sort of grin. "I am Das Stärkste Gefängnis, the Impenetrable Prison! I can't be unlocked from the inside, but I can be opened easily from the outside. See if you can answer my riddle!"

"What the heck is this thing?" Shima asked.

Kiara fought the urge to face palm. She had seen this door once before in a book Mephisto had given her— specifically a book of most of the demons that Mephisto could summon and control. Seeing this door here meant that Mephisto had been here as well.

"And the riddle is, what makes me so impenetrable? Try to break into me an see for yourself."

Around her, everyone got into a defensive pose and in a sudden flash of light they were all frozen. Well, all of them except for two.

The door started laughing, "The answer is, I am impenetrable because I can freeze those that come at me with hostile intent in their tracks. Now you know how I got my name!"

"Oh my gosh. Hey wait, um sir, how come you didn't freeze me too?" Sheimi asked.

"Because you pose no threat to me. You're weak and carry no weapons!"

"That's an opinion." Kiara said, getting the attention on her as she walked up to the door.

"Hoshino!" Sheimi exclaimed. "You weren't frozen either? Why is that?"

she placed a hand on the doors handle, "Because I don't intend on being hostile towards this thing, obviously. We don't have time for questions. Sheimi, let's go save Rin."
