Chapter 33

Kiara was surrounded by an endless darkness, a black smoke swirling around her feet. Though it seemed to be thicker than before. To any normal person this would be terrifying, but Kiara was just completely done. Once moment she was standing in the chamber, the next she was in the void. The only thing missing is a giant douche of a dad.

"Kiara, my dear."

There he is.

"What do you want?" Kiara asked, turning and facing Irajah as he walked out of the smoke. "And don't say anything about 'wanting to see your darling daughter'." She summoned her sword and narrowed her eyes. "Though, it's been a while since I've seen you, I was beginning to hope that you were dead."

Irajah just chuckled. "I apologize for my absence. I've had some... business to attend to. But, you don't need to be concerned about that. I wanted to check in on you."

"Check in, right." Kiara rolled her eyes. "You can give up the 'caring father' act— not like it was that convincing anyways." She crouched down, "I know what happened with my mother."

Irajah didn't look alarmed, in fact, his expression didn't even change. "It was only a matter of time before you found out about your mother. She was truly a wonderful woman."

That pissed Kiara off. Sure, she never knew her mom personally, but just knowing that Irajah used her for his own gain and he had the audacity to say something like that? The fucking nerve. She ran towards him and swung her sword, watching as it went straight through as his body where her sword went through dissolved into smoke before reconnecting— as if nothing even touched him. "You fucking coward! Why don't you actually visit me instead of sending whatever this fucking illusion is! You're the demon of fear, right? That's a joke, since you seem to be scared of your own fucking daughter."

Irajah sighed and placed a hand on the bridge of his nose. "And here I thought we could have a nice little chat. Looks like we'll have to put that on hold."

"What are you talking about?"

Irajah lowered his hand and looked at her, his red eyes glinting. "Nothing you need to think about at the moment. All will become clear in due time. For now, I believe this meeting of ours is over. Farewell."

With that Kiara opened her eyes and sat up with a start, breathing heavily. There was a throbbing pain in the back of her head and she realized she was laying on the ground. She must of passed out while in that realm.

No matter. I can't let myself think too much about that. The eye has been taken and they're going to need all the help they can get. She pushed herself off the ground and headed back to the inn— it looked like the door had been left open a crack so she had been able to get out without needing a key. Once she was back inside the inn, she walked around the halls looking for everyone else.

"There she is!" Someone called, and Kiara perked up to see two exorcists pointing at her.

"Oh, uh, hey guys." She said, raising her hand. "You been looking for me or something?"

"She's a half demon too! She might be like that Okumura boy!"

"Wait what?" Kiara asked, not having time to think as the two men charged straight towards her. She could feel the fear radiating off of the two and figured they were doing this out of pure fear. Nonetheless she was still being chased by two taller, probably stronger, and more experienced exorcists who probably wanted to throw her in a cell and she did not want to be stuck in some kind of cell when she could be out doing things.

"Come back here demon!" One of the men shouted.

"Fuck no!" Kiara screeched, literally jumping down a flight of stairs before continuing to run. Thank god I have superhuman stamina. She thought, though it wasn't even a full minute before she skidded to a halt, being faced with a dead end. "Shit."

"You're cornered!"

I really don't want to do this tonight. Kiara thought, though apparently that's what was happening. She was doing this tonight and she had to figure out a way out of this. She took a deep breath and placed her hands together, placing them in front of her mouth before pointing them towards the two men. "Alright, look. I have no clue why you're doing this, but know that you're not catching me this easily, so, uh, see ya fuckers." With that she sprinted at full speed towards the two, forcing herself past them, and once again they were on a chase.

As she ran, she noticed Shima and Konekomaru step out of one of the doorway,     — if Kiara remembered right it was the kitchen. "Sorry. Love to talk but I'm currently running from two madmen." She shouted before passing the door— though she didn't get far due to a sudden pull on her tail.

A tingling feeling ran up her back and her cheeks flushed as she fell to her knees. She looked over her shoulder to see Bon holding onto her tail, his other hand holding a rag of ice up to his cheek.

"What the hell is this?" He asked.

"The young master got her!" One of the men called, finally catching up to her, the both of them out of breath. "Thank goodness."

"You didn't answer my question. What the hell is this?" Bon asked, a pissed expression on his face.

"Oh, uh, we were chasing her because we thought it'd be better if she was in a cell like the son of Satan."

Bon narrowed his eyes and his fist tightened around Kiara's tail— most likely on reflex— though it still made a chill craw up her back. Holy shit can he let go? She thought.

"And who told you to do that?" Bon asked.

The two men glanced at each other, "Uh, nobody, we just thought—"

"You dumbasses. You two could be much more useful helping the others look for Mamushi and the eye!" He snapped, causing the two men to break out into a sweat and back away.

"Sorry, Master Ryuji." One of them said. And with that they both ran off.

"I appreciate the help— not like I needed it— but, uh, can you... let go of my tail? It's kinda sensitive to touch." Kiara asked, glancing up at Bon, her cheeks boiling hot.

Bon looked down and noticed her expression, he immediately let go of her tail and covered his mouth, his cheeks turning pink. "Sorry." He muttered.

"Oh hoho." Shima chuckled as he saw the two of them, backing off in what looked to be a cold sweat as the both of them glared.

"Touch it and you're gonna see stars until next month." She threatened as She stood up and made sure to keep her tail close to her body, the red on her cheeks slowly dissapearing. "Alright, well, that's over with. Glad I found everyone." She hoisted herself up on one of the counters and let out a sigh. "Man this has been a long day." Just then there was some commotion outside and Kiara looked towards the door, "looks like it's going to be even longer than I thought. Damn."

"Wonder what's going on out there." Shima said, peeking out into the hallway.

"It sounds like something serious." Konekomaru said.

Everyone in the room fell quiet, and Kiara was able to make out some of what the people in the halls were saying.

"You sure they caught Mamushi?"

"Yeah, Juzo found her. He's burning her back."

Bon looked up, a shocked look on his face, not even a second later he was up and running out into the hallway. Kiara sighed, jumping down from the counter and followed after him— who knows, whatever happens next might be fun.

Kiara ran after Bon— soon hearing footsteps behind her as the others followed suite. Eventually they all reached the entrance to the in, where a small crowd had already started to gather, glancing through the doorway, Kiara's eyes landed on Mamushi who— to put it bluntly— looked absolutely awful.

"As most of you already know, Todo Saburota and I stole the right and left eyes. A little while ago we used them to revive the impure king!"

The gathered crowd started to talk, fear emitting from every single one of them.

"But that's impossible! The Impure King was defeated way back in the Edo period!"

"It's body has been kept in a state of suspended animation beneath Konoshingzan. Right now, it's on the loose and growing. Master Tatsuma's up there too. He's taking that demon on all by himself." She bent forwards into a kowtow, "I beg you. Please send help. He can't fight the impure King on his own!"

"You got some nerve!" Someone shouted.

"You brought the thing back to life so you deal with it."

Kiara gritted her teeth as people started to chatter, most of them refusing to go up and fight the impure King. Just as she was about to step forwards and say something, she felt a hand on her shoulder and she looked to the side to see Bon shaking his head slightly, his eyes on Juzo.

"This is not the time to be arguing amongst ourselves. Every exorcist, including security teams one and two, and those from the keep, will deploy to assist the master!" Juzo announced. "The Impure King is related to the King of Rot, so to counter the miasma, you'll need to get vaccinated."

With that, everyone started running off— most likely to get prepared for the battle.
