Chapter 2

Kiara got to the Academy just as people were sitting down. Apparently she had arrived along with tail end of the crowd, since it looked like most of the seats had already been taken. Luckily there was an empty seat a few rows down that Kiara could take. She walked down the steps and made her way to the seat, sitting down and ignoring the stares from those around her.

Next to her, a boy with dyed pink hair was staring at her with a shocked expression on his face. He leaned over to a boy with a dyed yellow Mohawk and whispered something that earned a glare and a few stern words from the boy. Kiara couldn't of cared less about the exchange.

The opening ceremony started not too long after she got there. There was mention of how glad they were to see everyone here, how they expected everyone to perform at their very best, and so on so fourth. Pretty much the same speech any other prestigious school would have. And of course, there was a representative for the First Years.

"Meet you First Year Class Representative, Yukio Okumura!" The man on the stage said- it wasn't Mephisto, no the clown was probably too busy reading manga to attend the opening ceremony for his own damned school.

Kiara watched as a boy with neatly cut brown hair and glasses walked up to the stage. The girls in front of her started whispering about how cute he was and how smart he must be if he was the one to get top scores on the entrance exam and boy next to her just sighed, muttering how he wished it was him the girls were talking about. Kiara couldn't care less about his appearance, the smart pretty boy wasn't really her type.

Putting her attention up to the stage, she watched as the boy, Yukio, unfolded the piece of paper and looked to the crowd. "To be able to join you here at True Cross, the school I've long admired, is something that is both thrilling and sobering. So I will study hard, be diligent, and live up to the standards of this special place. I am your First Year class Rep. Yukio Okumura." After a short bow, he stepped off the stage and walked back to his seat.

Watching him go, Kiara couldn't help but get the feeling that there was more to him than being a good looking four eyed nerd. She wouldn't be surprised if their pathes crossed sometime in the future.

After Yukio's speech, the man from before stepped back up onto the stage and said a few more things— Kiara couldn't be bothered to listen— and after the unnecessarily long speech, he finally dismissed the crowd of First Years. To say she was relived was an understatement. Another minute in that boring lecture hall and she would of killed someone.

Though while the rest of the students were able to have the rest of the day off to do what they desired, anyone who wanted to become an exorcist still had one more place to go. The Cram School.  Anyone who wanted to become an exorcist had to go through years of lessons and training, and Cram Schools are the places where they could get what they needed. So, there was one last place Kiara needed to get to before she was home free for the day.

At 2:30 on the dot, Kiara placed a key into a locked janitors closet. Twisting it, she pushed open the door and walked into a rather large, dark, but colorful hallway. She grabbed her key from out of the keyhole and placed it back on her key ring before walking along the hallway. She didn't want to be late to her first day.

She soon found her way to her classroom, room 1106, and judging from the chatter inside most of her classmates had already arrived. Opening the door, she saw that everyone's eyes were now on her and the chatter died down.

"Oh hey, it's you!" Someone exclaimed, and Kiara looked over to the source of the voice to see the same pink haired boy that she sat next to during orientation.

"Nice to see you again, pinkie~" Kiara greeted, her tone slightly teasing as she gave him a small wink. She watched with amusement as his cheeks turned red before he recovered and reached forwards, grabbing her hand and shaking it.

"I'm Shima Renzo!" He introduced eagerly. He then motioned to the two other boys he had been talking to when she stepped into the room. "The one with glasses is Miwa Konekomaru, and the punk looking guy is Suguro Ryuji, though you can just call him Bon."

The boy with the blonde Mohawk looked at Shima angrily, "Don't go telling people to call me Bon, you ass!"

"Bon, calm down." Konakomaru said with a sheepish smile on his face.

"Pleasure to meet you. I'm Kiara... uh, Pheles Kiara, though Kiara is just fine." She and Mephisto had come to an agreement that she would use Pheles as her last name while she attended school here, since Mephisto went by the name 'Johan Faust' here and only a select few knew him by Mephisto Pheles. He also mentioned something about people hearing that an orphan that got in True Cross might risk the prestigious reputation he had worked hard to build up. She looked over towards the two other girls who were in the room, "Mind if I get to know your names, or would you just like me to come up with nicknames for you?"

The girl with purple haired scoffed, "I'm Kamiki Izumo." She said shortly.

The other girl was more polite than Izumo, looking slightly apologetic due to Izumo's attitude. "I'm Paku Noriko. It's very nice to meet you, Kiara."

Kiara nodded. "Likewise." She then glanced towards the two kid in the back and almost immediately realized that she wasn't going to be getting names from either of them by how reserved they were being. She wasn't surprised, this was an exorcist school and not having a mysterious student or two wouldn't feel right. "Well, better get a seat." She said with a shrug. "You don't mind if I sit with you guys? Well, I guess you don't really have a choice because I am no matter your response." With that she plopped down on the empty seat right behind Konekomaru, earning a small glare from Bon.

A few minutes passed and the door creaked open to show the same blue haired kid she saw when she arrived at the academy. He looked around the classroom before stepping inside. "I'm Okumura Rin." He was obviously putting up a tough guy act to try to hide how scared he was under the gazes of everyone in the classroom. "Nice to meet 'cha." With that, he quickly walked to the table in the middle of the second row.

What's he doing here? Kiara thought her eyes trailing to a very familiar white dog that had hopped up onto the table next to Rin. She knew of Mephisto's dog form, the small white pup had visited her many times at the orphanage as she grew up, always turning back into his original form once they were out of sight from anyone else. Rin must be someone Mephisto could use if the damned clown had taken time out of his anime watching to attend the cram school alongside the boy.

Whatever. I'm sure I'll find out in due time. She thought. Looking back towards the door, she figured that the the only person that was needed now was the teacher. Exorcist classes were normally pretty small since there weren't a lot of people who had personal encounters with demons.

The door opened and in came the teacher who was... Yukio? The same kid who was the First Year representative. She suspected their paths would cross but she didn't expect it to be this soon. "But he's the same age as us... he must be the youngest exorcist ever."

"I'm your instructor, my name is Okumura Yukio." He introduced. "I am the new teacher for Anti-Demon Pharmaceutics class."

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Okumura." Izumo said.

"What the hell Yukio!" Rin shouted in shock.

"Is there a problem?"

"What do you mean 'is there a problem'? Yeah there's a problem! What's your problem?'

Kiara had to admit, she was impressed with how easily Yukio was able to keep a smile on his face as he ignored Rin's shouting. He turned to the class and addressed them all. "Although I'm the same age as most of you, I'd appreciate it if you called me teacher when class is in session. I've been studying exorcism since I was seven, and I finished the last of my courses two years ago." He adjusted his glasses and scanned the class. "Alright then, let's get started. Is there anyone who has not received a temptaint?"

Kiara looked around the classroom to see three of the students raise their hands. The two kids in the back and Paku.

"Three of you. Alright. Well in that case, let's start with the temptaint ritual."

We're going to summon demons on the first day? This'll be interesting. Kiara thought.

"The room we're in isn't normally used, so Goblins moved in. Now Goblins, if you didn't already know, are a type of demon."

"Is this place safe?" Paku asked, her voice shaking a bit.

Yukio chuckled, "Yes, it's safe."

Damn. I was hoping for a little excitement. Kiara thought as she watched Yukio palace a briefcase onto the podium and opening it.

"A Goblin is a low level demon, a mischief maker, so they're perfect for rituals like this."

"Hey Yukio!" Rin exclaimed, slamming his hands on the table and standing up.

"Class is in session. Would you please sit down." Yukio asked with annoyance, though Rin didn't listen and remained standing. Yukio just ignored Rin. "Now where was I? Ah, yes. Eve though Goblins are low level demons, they're still demons—"

"Come on Yukio! Talk to me!" Rin shouted again, though it sounded more like he was pleading with Yukio, though the brunette just ignored him and continued.

"That being said, if they catch the. Scent of rotten animal blood, they'll get excited and turn ferocious."

Kiara watched as Rin moved from his seat and walked up to Yukio with a pissed expression. "Hold on a sec, we need to talk, man. Right now!"

"What do you want to talk about?" Yukio asked, and despite the calm front he was putting up, it was rather obvious to Kiara that he was getting very annoyed.

"Don't play dumb!"

Any normal person would get frightened from his yelling, and looking around, Kiara noticed that a few of the students did have frightened looks on their faces. Kiara on the other hand only had excitement welling up. The first day was starting to prove itself to be chaotic, loud, and most importantly, entertaining.

"Fine, if that's the way you want it." Yukio said with a sigh of defeat. "Sorry class, would everyone pace step out and wait in the hall? There's something I have to discuss with Mr. Okumura in private."

To say she wasn't disappointed would be a lie, but she followed her classmates out into the hallway nonetheless. She quickly glanced back into the classroom before she shut the door behind him, and she could of sworn she saw Mephisto smile at her.

"What a moron." Bon grumbled, angrily kicking the wall. "Seriously, what's his deal?"

"I mean, I'd be surprised if a sibling of mine suddenly walks through the door and says that he'll be my teacher." Kiara said with a shrug as she leaned against the door. "But it did seem to be more than just... surprise."

There was a loud crash from inside the room and everyone glanced at each other. Kiara watched as they all flinched with the sounds of gunshots.

"What the hell, are they going to kill each other?" Shima shouted in horror.

"No, that's not it." Kiara said, sniffing the air. "Smell that?"

"Ew, it smells like something rotting." Izumo said, covering her nose.

"If I had to guess, the blood Teach was going to use was spilt somehow, and the goblins are a little... savage right now." Kiara said. She leaned against the wall and heard the screeches of Goblins and more gunshots. There was shouting as well, but she couldn't make anything out over the noise. There was one final Goblin Screech and Kiara looked over to see the door open.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, class. Shall we continue our lesson for today?"

Kiara followed everyone into the room, only to see that it was total chaos. Rin was leaning on the podium with a smile on his face. It seemed like whatever they had talked about changed their attitudes toward each other. Though it looked like she wasn't the only one who noticed the change in the two boys.

"What's up with them?" Bon muttered to himself as he walked past her.

"Must of had an enlightening talk." Kiara responded simply as she made her way to her seat.

Bon scoffed and just walked back to his seat.

Class ended quite fast, they mainly got the rundown of how everything was going to happen. They would have the typical exorcist classes, and receive an exwire exam later in the semester. They were all given a little pamphlet about the basics of being an exorcist— it explained the classes they would have throughout the year, and the meisters for exorcists for when they did eventually become exwires. They were also given a few reading assignments, which earned groans from everyone.

"That will be all for today. Due to that interruption, we were not able to start lessons. Be prepared, since tomorrow won't be nearly as easy. You are all dismissed."

Kiara followed the others out of the room, and as she walked down the hall, there she felt something press against the back of her calf. Looking down she saw a white dog looking up at her.

"Meet me in room 1104, my girl." Mephisto said before scampering off.

Kiara sighed, it looks like she'll have to wait a bit longer until she can relax.
