Chapter 18
A week had passed since the amusement park mission and Kiara found herself standing in front of a familiar building— a building Kiara had wished to never see again. Towering in front of her was the one and only True Cross orphanage. Kiara wasn't scared of retuning, no, but thinking of the possibility that she might encounter her childhood tormentors made her really just want to go back to her dorm room and go back to sleep.
Yukio cleared his throat, pulling Kiara's attention from the building to where he and Shura were standing in front of the gathered class, "This is True Cross Orphange. We're here because there have been reports of a low level demon inhabiting this area. The suspected demons that have inhabited this area are Goblins."
"What about the people inside?" Konekomaru asked. "Won't we have to make sure they're safe?"
Who cares about their safety. Kiara thought rolling her eyes. They could all get attacked for all I care.
"The caretakers and kids inside will be coming out momentarily." Yukio said, adjusting his glasses and glancing at Kiara for a second before looking back at the rest of the class. "Once they're all out safely, we will be going in."
"So we're going into a creepy old orphanage to track down some goblins. How fun." Izumo stated blandly.
"Once you find the demon, hold it back and notify either me or Ms. Kirigakure. Do not try to fight the demons head on by yourself. Now, listen closely as I list off the groups." Yukio pulled out his notebook and started listing off names. "Miwa and Kamaki, Okumura and Takara—"
"Aw man, I'm with puppet guy?" Rin complained.
Yukio ignored his brother's complaint and continued listing off pairings. "Moriyama and Shima, and Suguro and Pheles."
"Well, it could be worse." Bon muttered.
"Admit it, you're happy to be paired up with me." Kiara teased.
"Oh shut up. I'm just glad I'm with someone who actually pulls their weight." He said, crossing his arms and looking over at Takara.
Kiara laughed, "Yeah, sure, that's definitely the only reason."
"Oh my god, is that who I think it is?" Someone whispered from behind her, and Kiara glanced over her shoulder to see a group of kids and teens walking out of the orphanage.
"Oh good, it looks like everyone has been cleared out." Yukio said. "You all wait here while I talk to the head of the orphanage." With that he walked away from the group and Kiara finally turned around, seeing everyone staring directly at her. Once she turned around, the whispers immediately started and people started pointing at her.
"Kiara, do they know you or something?" Shima asked, leaning towards Kiara with his hands in his pocket. "It is you they're pointing at, right?"
"Don't get your hopes up about any of them wanting you, Pinkie. They're pointing at me." Kiara said, "I had hoped to never come back here but it seems that things didn't go my way. Not like I expected to avoid this place for the rest of my life."
"Alright everyone." Yukio said, walking up to the class and stopping the conversation. "Each of you will be taking different sections of the orphanage. Remember, if you see any ghouls, contact either Miss Kirigakure or myself. If there's one, there are most likely more along with it. Everyone understand?"
"Yes sir!" Everyone exclaimed and with that they each got the section they were assigned and headed inside the building.
Kiara and Bon headed up the stairs to the second floor, walking through the hallway quietly.
"We're going to be looking through the bedrooms." Kiara said as the two of them walked into the first room, six bunkbeds placed in a row along the back wall and three dressers on the same side as the door. Bon and Kiara searched the room, finding nothing out of the ordinary. After searching, they walked out and headed to the next room, the room Kiara had slept in while she lived here. Kiara walked in, seeing that the room had barely changed since when she had left, though it looked as if one thing had changed.
There were two bunk beds on back wall, a single bed next to them. On the opposite side was another singlet bed. On the bed on the opposite side there was a small pile of Broken toys and the sheets looked to be ripped. Walking to the bed, Kiara looked down at the pile with a dark look. On the top was a cracked picture frame, an elderly woman dressed in nun attire holding a small baby that was wrapped up in a velvet blanket.
"Who're those two?" Bon asked, looking over Kiara's shoulder.
"She was one of the caretakers here. Sister Feza. She was a victim of the Blue Night." Kiara said softly, the looked down at the baby in the woman's arms, "And... the baby is me. This was a few days after I had been brought here."
"Brought here?" Bon asked, "You mean you're...?"
"An orphan? Yeah. But honestly you can't really feel bad for yourself if you never knew your parents." She let out a light laugh. Of course, he doesn't have to know that I've met my dad just recently.
"Oh, it looks like you found out little shrine." A voice said and Kiara looked over her shoulder to see a girl that she had hoped to never see again.
"Hamako. You're supposed to be waiting outside." Kiara said, keeping her tone level as she turned around.
"I know that, I'm not an idiot, freak. But I thought I'd give you a nice little homecoming. I see you've gotten out of the Asylum." She looked at Bon, a smirk appearing on her face. "Was this handsome hunk sent to bring you back here? Unfortunate for him that he has to be so close to someone like you."
Kiara gritted her teeth, "Why don't you just shut up and go outside." Kiara said. "Unless you want to get hurt, which honestly, wouldn't be the worst thing."
"Is that a threat?" Hamako asked.
"You know what, it is. Now go outside before something happens to you."
"Mr. Asylum man, I think you need to take her back to the asylum! She's obviously too violent to be out in public!" She walked up to Bon and leaned against him, and Kiara could tell she was making him uncomfortable. "Maybe afterwards we could, I don't know, grab something to eat." She traced a finger over his chest, and Kiara watched him tense up even more before stiffly taking a step back and pushing Hamako away.
"You need to head outside and stop bothering Kiara and I." He said, narrowing his eyes at Hamako.
"What's got you so tense?" Hamako asked, a look of disdain on her face. "It's not like the freak over there is your girlfriend."
"Actually she is." Bon said simply.
"I'm sorry what?" Kiara squeaked out, knowing that her cheeks were most likely bright red.
"What? You can't be serious. You can't actually be dating that freak— that demon girl!"
Bon walked over to Kiara and wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close, causing Kiara's heart to start beating loudly, "If you think she's a freak, then you need to re-evaluate your judgement. If anything, you're the freak here. Now, I'd suggest you leave and join the rest of the kids outside before you get in trouble. Oh, and the only demon I see here is you."
Hamako sputtered, at a loss for words. After a few seconds she let out a scoff and turned around, heading out of the room and Kiara listened as her footsteps went downwards, indicating that Hamako was actually leaving the building.
"Well, that just happened." Kiara said, still trying to process what had just happened, she looked up at Bon and noticed that he wasn't looking at her, and he was kinda tense. Walking over to him she noticed that he was muttering something.
"Did I really just say that? What the hell? What was I thinking? What is she thinking? Did I just mess up my chance with her? Oh god—" He had a frazzled look on his face.
"Bon?" Kiara asked, now standing in front of him. She tapped him on the shoulder, watching as he jumped back to reality.
"Ah! Kiara!" Bon exclaimed, his face turning red as he placed his hand on the back of his neck. "Uh, s-sorry about saying that I just thought that-"
Kiara tilted her head and let out a laugh. "What's there to be sorry about, if anything I should be sorry. I've never had a boyfriend before, so, I might mess this up."
"Boyfriend...?"
Kiara took a step forwards and raised herself on her tippy toes, kissing Bon's cheek. "Yes, boyfriend. I mean, you did say I was your girlfriend. So, why not actually make it official." She grinned, now leaning back on her heels.
Bon stood still, processing what she had just said and did before he looked at Kiara, he chuckled and gave her a smile, "Sure. Let's do it."
"I guess this means we're a couple now." Kiara said as the two of them walked out of the room to continue searching for any goblins.
"What do we tell the others?"
"Let's let them figure it out on their own."

Neither of them had found any goblins on the floor they were on— it was too well lit for any goblins to inhabit. Apparently the goblins were in the attic, where Izumo and Konekomaru were. They had all gathered outside, all of them getting read to head back to their dorms as Shura and Yukio exorcised the queen of the goblin nest. Before leaving, Kiara looked at the Orphanage, lost in her thoughts.
"Kiara!" Bon called, "We're leaving! Hurry up or you'll be left behind!"
"I'm coming!" Kiara called as she looked from the Orphanage to where Bon was standing with Konekomaru and Shima. She turned around and caught up with the group, not even giving the Orphanage a second glance over her shoulder as she walked away.
