Chapter 16

Kiara and Bon didn't waste any time with getting down. Kiara ended up going down first without a word, heading towards the ladder and practically ignoring the rails of the ladder as she slid down to the ground. Not too soon after she got to the ground, Bon was right beside her.

"What do you think that was?" Bon asked as the two ran. "Could it of been the ghost?"

"There's no way a ghost could cause that much damage." Kiara said, grabbing her necklace and placing her finger in the golden circle, the sword appearing in her hand not even a second later. "This is the result of something big." The two of them kept running, until the ground started shaking. Kiara lost her balance and started to fall backwards. She expected to hit the ground, but instead she felt herself fall into another person.

"You good there?" Bon asked, and Kiara realized that he had just barely managed to catch her— except the way he caught her caused his hands to loop under her arms and rest on her—

"I'm fine." Kiara squeaked, feeling her cheeks start to warm up. She quickly stood up and cleared her throat, "We should keep running. It seems like it's getting really interesting up ahead."

Bon looked at her, then the realization seemed to hit him and his entire face flushed red. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to-!"

Kiara looked at him, "Let's just keep going." She said, turning around and starting to run.

"Hey! Kiara, Bon!" Someone shouted and Kiara looked to her side to see Shima and Izumo running towards them. The four of them stopped running, seeing as they were close to where the commotion was— though it seemed that it had started to die down. Shima looked between Bon and Kiara, noticing that something was up. "You two okay, your faces look a little—"

"We're fine." Bon snapped.

Shima raised an eyebrow, "Well, if you say so. Anyways, we ran into Mr. Tsubaki and he told us to gather at the entrance and to leave whatever's happening to him and Mr. Okumura."

"Alright then, let's head there together." Bon said, and the three of them started walking.

Kiara stayed back for a second, her fist clenching around the hilt of her sword as she saw a figure fly over her head— a figure that she could of sworn had on a familiar maroon suit and green hair.

"Kiara! Hurry up, will you?" Izumo called and Kiara looked towards the group.

"I'm coming!" Kiara called back and with a last glance towards where Amaymon had disappeared, with a sigh, she pressed her thumb against the hilt of her sword and it turned back into a necklace. She moved to catch up to the group.

Sitting at the entrance with the rest of the class, Kiara perked up when Yukio walked up to them.

"What the heck's going on around here?" Bon asked.

"Listen up class, todays mission is over. You can all return to your dorms for now." Yukio said, not answering Bon's question.

"Huh? You expect us to just leave without knowing what happened?" Kiara asked, earning an annoyed look from Yukio. Before Yukio could answer, Kiara caught sight of Rin being dragged out of the amusement park by a woman with pink hair.

"Hey! I can't breath, Damnit!" Rin shouted, struggling to get out of the headlock the woman had him in.

"Aw that sucks. Now I'm jealous." Shima pouted.

"Shima!" Konekomaru said.

"Hold on a second, who is that hottie?"

"She's wearing pants from a boy's uniform. Could that be Yamada?"

"No way!"

"Typical Okumura. Guys always gettin' into a jam." Bon said.

"I'd bet you want to be in Rin's position right now." Kiara teased, earning a short glare form Bon.

"Hey! Hold it right there!" Izumo shouted, and Kiara looked behind the woman and Rin to see Sheimi following after them. The blonde stopped and looked towards the class when Izumo got her attention. "Do you have any idea what's going on?"

"I'm not sure yet. All I know is it's not his fault." Sheimi answered.

Not his fault? How cryptic of an answer is that? Kiara thought.

"Now, everyone, enough questions. As I said before, you are to return to your dorms." Yukio said and the class finally went along with it, all of them turning to leave.

"Miss Pheles, could you please stay back, I would like you to come with me." Yukio said just as Kiara was about to walk away.

"Did you do something?" Shima asked, looking at Kiara.

Kiara shrugged, "Nothing that I'm aware of. Well, I'll see you guys later, then. If I'm allowed to that is. Who knows, maybe I'm suspected of murder."

"Kiara, that's not something to joke about." Konekomaru said.

"Ah, I'll be fine, Koneko." She waved her hand dismissively and walked over to Yukio who was walking to where the Woman had dragged Rin. "So, teach, whatcha want from me? Fashion advice, relationship advice? Trust me, you need both— or could it be the demon that was here let it slip that he somehow knew me?"

Yukio tensed up but didn't stop walking and eventually they caught up to the woman and Rin where they stood in front of a door labeled staff, and Kiara let out a sigh. "It was the last one, damn. I had kinda hoped to give you fashion advice."

"How did you guess?" Yukio asked. "Do you know something we don't?"

"No, I just know about Uncle Amaymon, and how he tends to let things and secrets slip."

"Uncle...?" Yukio muttered.

"Hey! Where are you taking me!?" Rin shouted, braking Yukio out of his slight trance, still trying to get out of the woman's headlock.

"That's right. You've never had a reason to come to the base before now." Yukio stated.

"Base?"

"Obviously the Japan Branch Exorcist Base." Kiara said.

"Why are you coming with us?" Rin asked.

"I asked Yukio to bring her along." The woman stated as they walked through the door that Yukio had just opened. "You're Pheles Kiara, correct? Names Kirigakure Shura."

Kiara nodded in greeting. "Nice to meet you." Kaira said.

"Why exactly did you ask her to come along?" Yukio asked.

Shura was about to respond, only to be interrupted by a certain Flamboyant man running up to the group. "Are you okay? My bother didn't hurt you, did he? I don't know what I would do—"

"If you continue to say one more word you can say goodbye to that new exclusive kimono I know you just got." Kiara said with a tight smile and murder in her eyes. "Honestly dad—" She froze, remembering that they currently had an audience.

"Wait a minute, did you just call The Director dad?" Rin asked.

"That leads me to why I asked you here. Your last name is Pheles, suspiciously the exact same last name as the one and only Mephisto Pheles." Shura said, looked from Kiara to Mephisto, who was just grinning. "By any chance could you be related?"

"Why, you're so perceptive Miss Kirigakure!" Mephisto exclaimed. "Kiara here is indeed my one and only daug— ah!"

Kiara had stomped on his foot, and was now watching as he hopped around clenching his foot dramatically. "I am not his daughter." She said, turning to the three. "Actually my parents are dead, I'm an orphan. Mephisto is the main reason I'm at True Cross and at the Cram school and practically raised me while I grew up at True Cross Orphanage— well that and I'm practically a demon so he's making sure I don't go berserk or something. Oh! And that's also why I call Amaymon 'uncle' it's a habit I picked up as a child. He's not really my uncle. I know you were curious about that, teach."

Shura and Yukio glanced at each other, nodding solemnly before they looked back at Mephisto, who had recovered from his hopping around. He grinned and looked at Shura.

"What a surprise it was to find out that you've infiltrated our Cram School to spy on us. Your disguise was truly inspired. I had no clue!"

"Mephisto. How about we cut to the chase. Why'd you hide the existence of not only one, but two demons— one of them being the son of Satan— from the order?" Shura asked.

Kiara's eyes widened in slight surprise. The son of who now? She asked looking from Shura to Rin. This boy, this kid who falls asleep in class and is probably near the bottom of the class is the son of the one and only Satan? I don't believe it. Well, that would explain why he's practically a demon magnet.

"I didn't hide anything from anyone." Mephisto said, a smirk prominent on his face. "Yes, I took them in, but it was all for the sake of the order and it's future."

"What do you mean by that?" Shura asked.

"We train the Son of Satan, and use him as a weapon for the order. And Kiara, well, after she get's an understanding of all her abilities, will become very useful when she becomes a full exorcist. Being an exorcist is practically in her blood, you know."

"You didn't answer my question. So I'm going to ask you one more time. Why didn't you report this to the Vatican?"

"Well look at them, their power isn't at it's full potential. You know the Grigory wouldn't be convinced by the sight of unfinished projects."

"One more question. Was Shiro Fujimoto also involved in this scheme of yours?"

"I swear, there's no scheme. Though Fujimoto only raised the Son of Satan until he became aware of his powers. Kiara here was orphaned, as you already know, and I'm acting as a guardian by the request of a dear old friend of mine."

"I see... either way I'm still going to report this. Before I do though, I wanna interrogate the kids. Hope you don't mind if I use the great cell and an interrogation room."

"Please make yourself at home. I'm sure you'll find the Son of Satan to be quite the amusing subject. And with Kiara, I feel you'll find that getting answers from her will be very easy."

"Huh. You're cool as a cucumber. We'll see what you're like after I'm done." She started walking, only to be stopped by Yukio who had a relatively panicked look on his face.

"Wait, Shura! Just a moment. You don't have to interrogate my brother. I can tell you anything you wanna know!"

"Yeah, but you can't tell me anything about her." Shura responded, motioning towards Kiara, "It's just best if I interrogate them both." She started walking away, Rin still in her grasp and Kiara following behind her. "Go home, and get some sleep!" She called back to him.

Kiara let out a short sigh, Well, hopefully this doesn't take too long.
