I have come to learn
that truth is much like adding salt –
it must be measured out
in the most cautious of smidgeons.
Nothing else adds piquancy
quite like a tasty, timely pinch
and nothing else better preserves
than seasoning, finely sprinkled.
Oh, but ladle out, profligate
and nothing else poisons worse -
dish converts to tragic ruination.
Disaster! Tang of urination!
What stings more waspishly
than salt rubbed in, irascibly?
What could be more vicious
than wickedly corrosive salt?
And yet, how fond you'll find some are
of touting it for every cure,
declaring it a true kindness,
to rub another's face well in it.
I have come to learn
that truth is much like adding salt –
it must be measured out,
saliently, without a doubt.
