I was abruptly awoken by the miniature alarm clock blaring beside me. It's usual wake-up call was drowned by the even louder sizzle of food being made downstairs.

"Maia let's get a move on, you're gonna be late" Kate yelled downstairs.

I groaned, rolling over to the unslept part of my bed. I lazily dragged my body out of bed to begin preparing for school.

Yes, school, as a 16 year old on the run from desperate, lifeless, people, or hunters as I should say, I have to go to school. They were given the name Hunter ever since they created specific arrows to paralyze and kill the supernatural. If I ever were to come across one, I'd have no clue what to do. I can barely understand how to control myself, let alone defend myself.

I carried myself across the brightly lit hall towards the bathroom. As I flicked on the light switch, I first noticed the enormous cowlick on the side of my head. I rapidly pressed down on my dark brown and wavy hair, trying to get it back into place.

If you didn't guess yet, I'm Maia Geller, and I'm personally not one to care of my appearance, but since I'm a teenage girl in high school I guess my looks matter.

I grabbed the first thing that went together which was an oversized and colorful Coca-Cola sweatshirt with ripped light washed jeans and Hightop white Converse.

I simply glanced at the clock and began to quicken my pace. The clock read 7:20 and anytime soon I won't have enough time to eat breakfast.

I flung on my all black JanSport backpack, heavy with all of the new books for the school year, and heaved myself down the light hardwooded staircase towards the kitchen where I saw my Godmother in her work uniform, quietly drinking her coffee with papers in front of her. She too was in the norm, and got the job of being an accountant.

"Hey Kate" I said casually, sitting at the marble island across from her.

I began to dig in to my scrambled eggs and crispy bacon with delight.

"Oh hey, ready for today?" I sighed.

"I mean either way I still don't have a choice" I bluntly said, playing with my food.

"Aw c'mon you'll be fine, and what do you do when someone bothers you?"

"Make them piss their pants" I chuckled.

"No, and watch your mouth"

"Sorry, and what do I do"

"Bring em over and I'll kick their ass" she smirked. I laughed.

"There's that smile, now go, you're gonna be late"

I finished up quickly and put my dishes in the sink. I waved to her and headed out.

"Hey and no superpowers okay? I love you" she yelled before I left.

"No promises" I joked.

And off I was, but I had no clue of what today would bring.
