Fear's Control

Some say all we've got to fear is fear itself,

But surely you've got worry about growing old, losing your health?

You've got to wonder how and when you'll die,

You've got to wonder why they all say goodbye.

Some say we have to conquer our fear,

Pick up a spider, walk in the dark, whatever's near,

Crawl through a small place, laugh at a clown,

Climb up a mountain then abseil all the way down.

Some say we shouldn't let our fear hold us back,

We should close our eyes, grit our teeth, attack,

Show that fear no longer makes us feel queasy,

But others know it's not that freaking easy.

Some say we should talk, deal with it together,

Some say we should, run, hide, ignore, do whatever,

Others like me find it best not to moan,

But, just this once, go it alone.

And finally though all my twitches, terrors and fear,

It's all become so crystal clear,

All this time it's all been in my head,

And now I'm the one in control instead.
