Part 5
"I'm starving. Let's make that damn fire already." Bakugou said. Kirishima nodded.
"Yeah. Yeah. Okay, I'll help." Kirishima said. You sighed and got up from where you had been sitting.
"We uh, ended up dropping some of the wood on our way back. But I think we have enough for tonight's fire anyways." You said. Kaminari nodded and smiled at you.
"Alright. No problem." He said. He saw the frown on your face. He sighed. "Hey. Look," he said, making everyone look at him. "Everything's okay. It's not like we don't believe you guys or anything, but, at least where we were, that sounded like a completely normal deer call. Let's have a good time, okay. We're all fine." Kaminari said. Kirishima sighed and nodded.
"Honestly, I think we were just hearing things, right, Bakugou, [Y/N]?" Kirishima asked. Bakugou sighed and nodded.
"Yeah. Right." He said. You looked at the ground and nodded.
"Yeah. Just, hearing things." You said. Bakugou sighed and growled slightly.
"Hurry up and help me build this fire." Bakugou said. Kirishima nodded.
"Gotcha." Kirishima said. The two built the fire in the pit, making it a pretty decent size. Midoriya looked at the fire and smiled.
"That looks perfect." He said. He looked at you and Todoroki. "Todoroki, or [Y/N], either of you want to ignite it for us?" He asked. You looked at Todoroki and stood up from your spot on the log you had been sitting on.
"I can light it," you said. Todoroki nodded.
"Alright." He said. You walked up to the fire and held out your hand. The ends of your fingers ignited with flames. You curled your hand towards yourself, and the flames shot at the wood, starting the fire.
The others gathered around and sat on the logs around the fire. Kaminari sighed as he sat down.
"Oh man. I wish I had a useful quirk for camping and survival and stuff." Kaminari said. Bakugou scoffed.
"Tch. You idiot. You're basically a walking generator." Bakugou said, looking at Kaminari. You looked over at Kaminari as well.
"And you'd be great at fishing to, Denki." You said. Kaminari's face seemed to brighten.
"Oh. You're right! I guess I am pretty useful then, huh." Kaminari said, chuckling. Shinso looked at Kaminari.
"And electricity can be used for starting fires as well." He said. Kirishima had been pretty quiet for a while. He looked up.
"I'm, gonna go get the cooler for the hot dogs. I'll be back in a sec." Kirishima said, getting up from the log he was sitting at. Midoriya looked at him.
"Okay. I'll come with you, then. I'm gonna make some hot cocoa and we can roast marshmallows for it." Midoriya said. Kirishima seemed to brighten at the mention of marshmallows and hot cocoa.
"Oh. Yeah. that actually sounds great, Midoriya." Kirishima said. Midoriya looked at Shinso.
"Do you want to come to, Shinso?" He asked. Shinso looked up in confusion.
"Huh?" He asked. Midoriya smiled at the purple haired male.
"Well, we could probably use the extra hands. You don't have to come if you don't want to, though." Midoriya said. Shinso looked at the fire then sighed, standing up from his seat.
"I guess I'll come with and help." He said, looking at Kirishima and Midoriya. The two nodded.
"We'll be right back, guys." Midoriya said. Todoroki nodded.
"Okay." He said. Todoroki looked over at you. You were sitting by yourself, looking at your hands. You still looked disturbed by what you had heard in the woods. Todoroki sighed and walked over to a pile he had brought out from the cabin. He walked over to you with a chair and a blanket. "Hey," he said, making you look up at him in surprise. You smiled slightly.
"Hey, Shoto." You greeted. Todoroki smiled slightly. He lifted the chair and the blanket, showing it to you.
"Here. I brought some blankets and chairs out. The chair might be a little bit more comfortable to sit in than the log." He said. "Would you like a chair?" He asked. You looked at the chair in his arms. You then smiled at him gently.
"Yes. I would love a chair, thank you, Shoto." You said. Todoroki smiled and nodded.
"Of course. Here, I'll set it up for you," he handed the blanket to you so that he could use two hands to pop the folding chair out. He set it down on the ground and pressed down gently on the seat, making the chair click into place. He gently shook the chair slightly, making sure the feet were stable. He looked at you. "There. Have a seat." He said. You handed the blanket back to Todoroki and sat in the chair. Todoroki had been right. Sitting in the chair was much better than sitting on the log. Plus, you were closer to the fire so you could warm up more. Todoroki looked down at the blanket in his arms. "Would you like a blanket?" He asked. You looked at the fuzzy blanket in his arms. You sighed and shrugged.
"Sure. I'll take a blanket. Thank you." You said. Todoroki nodded.
"Here," he started to move the blanket around your shoulders, making you lean forwards. "I'll wrap you up, sort of like a burrito." He said. The comment made you chuckle. He tucked the corners of the blanket in, so that you literally did, look like a burrito. "There. Are you feeling comfy?" He asked. You chuckled.
"Yes. I am very comfy in my blanket burrito." You said. Todoroki smiled and chuckled lightly. He smiled at you.
"Perfect. I'm glad." He said. He walked over to the pile of chairs and set them up, placing blankets in each for the person who might want one. He finished setting up his chair, next to you, when he noticed that your smile had fallen. You were looking down at the ground, looking anxious. Todoroki frowned. "Um, hey," he said, grabbing his blanket and sitting down in the chair. He wrapped the blanket around his back and shoulders. You looked over at him, the anxious look still on your face. "Are you alright? You're looking a little anxious." He said. You let out a shaky breath and looked at him.
"Honestly, I'm still a little disturbed by what Katsuki, Eijiro and I heard in the woods earlier. It made my blood run cold." You said. Todoroki hummed.
"That sound you heard in the woods, did it scare you that badly?" He asked. You sighed and looked at the ground.
"It probably would have scared you if you would have heard it." You said. A moment of silence passed.
"Um," Todoroki started. You looked at him. "To me, it really did sound like a normal deer. So, try and relax, alright. Everything's fine. We're going to have a relaxing campfire, drink hot chocolate and eat hot dogs,"
"And tell scary stories!" Kaminari said in excitement, cutting Todoroki off. You tensed lightly. Todoroki looked at Kaminari, not very convinced.
"Um, are you sure that's a good idea when so many people are on edge?" Todoroki asked. Kaminari smiled.
"Of course it's a good idea! It's spooky season! Come on, scary stories by the campfire is super fun!" Kaminari said, smiling. Todoroki blinked.
"Well, alright then." He said. You smiled at Kaminari's enthusiasm.
"Try to go easy on us, okay, Denki?" You said. Kaminari chuckled.
"You guys are just wimps." He said. You smiled lightly and looked over at Bakugou.
"Hey, Katsuki, you okay?" You asked. Bakugou glared at you.
"I'm fine." He said. You sighed and nodded.
"Okay." You said. The sounds of feet approaching caught the groups' attention. Midoriya and Shinso were coming back with two trays of hot chocolates and Kirishima was walking behind him, holding a platter of hot dogs.
"I have the hot chocolate tray! This is a little heavy." Midoriya said. Shinso looked at the green haired male.
"Careful. Don't spill it." He said. Midoriya smiled at Shinso.
"I won't. Don't worry." He said. Midoriya walked up to you with the first mug of hot chocolate. He chuckled. "Aw. Don't you look all warm and cozy." He said. You chuckled as well.
"Shoto made me a burrito blanket." You said chuckling. Midoriya laughed. He handed you one of the mugs. You took your arms out of the burrito and took the mug, relishing in the warmth the mug provided.
"Make sure to blow on it before you drink it. I made sure to make them super chocolatey!" Midoriya said. You gently blew on your hot chocolate and took a sip. You hummed as the warm drink filled your body.
~~~~
"So, you guys ready for a scary story?" Kaminari asked. After making hot dogs and eating dinner, Kaminari decided that now was the perfect time. "I got a perfect one for tonight!" Kaminari said, sounding all too eager for this. Midoriya looked at him.
"Oh! Yeah, I guess so." Midoriya said, smiling. Todoroki nodded.
"Sure." He said. Kirishima looked hesitant.
"Um, yeah. Go for it, man." Kirishima said. Shinso looked over at you.
"Are you ready, [Y/N]?" He asked. You let out a shaky sigh and shrugged.
"Um, sure. Yeah." You said, not sounding too convincing. Kaminari nodded.
"Alright. Well, this one's pretty scary. It might even make Bakugou pee himself." Kaminari said, chuckling. Bakugou glared at him.
"Hah?!" Bakugou growled. Kaminari waved his hands back and forth.
"I'm kidding! I'm kidding!" Kaminari said, laughing. His smile then fell. A serious look dawned his face. "Well, the story begins with an old man who lived alone up in the woods."
Now, this old man, well, he was a pretty lonely guy. He never married and he didn't really have any friends or family. In a way, he sort of liked being alone. But in his old age, he was starting to feel a little lonely.
One rainy night, when the man had driven down to the small little town near his home, he heard a tiny little sound while he was walking past an alleyway. He turned around to see a cat following him down the sidewalk.
'Aw, poor kitty.' You thought.
The old man kneels down to the little cat and gives him a piece of one of the fish he's got from the market. The cat doesn't even take a second to sniff it, it just gobbles it up all in one big bite. The old man stares in aw at the cat and the cat stares right back up at him with big, yellow eyes. It must have been absolutely starving. So he gives it another piece. Once again, the cat eats it faster than the old man could comprehend.
He's seen his fair share of cats in his lifetime, but he's never seen one eat this quickly before. He figured, why not take it home. So, the old man picks up the cat, who sat patiently in his arms, all the way back to his truck.
As Kaminari told the story, you couldn't help but feel like something bad was going to happen. This was a scary story after all.
He put the cat inside and ran off to the convenience store close by to grab some cans of cat food and then drove back home with his new friend.
"This is kind of cute." Midoriya said, smiling. You grimaced.
"Yeah. I'm waiting for the dark twist, though." You said. Kaminari continued the story.
He puts the little kitty down in his living room and heads off to his kitchen to unpack his groceries. he starts getting everything out of their bags and putting them away, when he hears a small, little meow next to him. He looks down and there's the cat again, just sitting there, staring. He smiles down at it and grabs one of the cat food cans he bought. He opens up the can and puts the wet food on a little plate and sets it on the floor. What he saw, was alarming to say the least. He watched as the cat opened its jaw up as wide as it could go, and ate nearly everything on the plate in almost a second flat!
You swallowed nervously. 'Okay. This is no normal cat.' You thought.
The old man swallows nervously, just watching as the cat finishes eating, and then looks back up at him. He slowly brings himself to look away from those big, piercing, yellow eyes and continues putting away his groceries.
Later that night, thunder began to clap loudly throughout the forest he lived in. It shook the wooden walls of his tiny home and rumbled throughout the floorboards beneath is feet. As he's watching tv, he's finding it hard to ignore those yellow eyes watching him, staring into his very soul from across the room. How is this cat so hungry? He asked himself. As he finally locked eyes with the cat and once he did, he sucked in a gasp. The cat seemed, bigger. It was still skin and bones. Its ribs protruding crudely from its sides and its legs no thicker than twigs. But, it somehow seemed as if it was longer and larger in size than he'd remembered. He figured he must be exhausted, seeing things, maybe remembering it wrong. So, the old man turns off the tv, stands up, and starts to head down the hall to his bedroom. That's when he heard a sound that made him stop in his tracks. A deep, guttural, raspy sound that made his blood run ice cold.
It sounded, somewhat like a cat, more so if something was trying to mimic the cat. He turns around to see the cat sitting on the floor behind him, staring up at him. He felt goosebumps beginning to raise all over his arms and legs. He couldn't keep this cat in his home anymore. It was really starting to freak him out. So, he picks up the cat, quickly opens up his front door, and sets it down on the porch. He runs to grab a small blanket from his closet and bundles it up on the porch so that the cat can have some warmth, and he closes the door. Before his front door clicked shut, all he could see was those glowing, big piercing yellow eyes. He tries to shake off the terrified feeling and finally heads off to bed. All night, the man hears that same, deep, low, raspy, almost humanoid meowing coming from outside his home. The next day, the wakes up in a cold sweat. Thankfully, it's morning and he can't hear any more of that terrible wailing coming from outside. The first thing he does when he gets out of bed, is make himself breakfast and sit down in front of the television. He honestly wanted to forget about the cat and the thought of even opening the front door had chills running through his body. Finally though he knew he had to let the cat back in. He felt guilty. He knew he should probably feed it, right? I mean, he took the can in, so he should be taking care of it. Finally, the guilt overcame him. He got up, walked over to his front door,
"Oh, don't do it!" You said out loud. Your hands were shaking in fear.
Only to be met with the sight that will forever haunt him for as long as he lives. There, in front of his property, only a couple meters away from his home, was a bloody, gory mess. There were half-eaten corpses of birds, mice, squirrels, racoons, and as his horrified eyes scanned across across the bodies, he saw the cat. It was massive! Nearly the size of a bear now, but it was still so skinny. It's ribs were still protruding from its sides, but its torso was long and lanky, its limbs were spindly and crooked, almost like a spider, and its face was buried inside the corpse of a deer.
Your breathing was beginning to pick up in fear. A hand then reached out, making you glance to the side. Shinso was holding out his hand to you. Though he didn't show it, Shinso was extremely terrified of the story Kaminari was telling. Without hesitation, you quickly grabbed Shinso's hand, holding onto it, but not too tightly.
The old man began to shake as he watched it swallow its food. He watched the way the food slithered its way down the cat's long, skinny neck, until it disappeared into its horrific body.
Kirishima shook his head in fear. "Oh hell no." He said.
Quickly, he closed and locked his front door and grabbed his gun. This cat, wasn't a cat. It was, something else. He barricaded himself inside with his furniture and waited, waited for, something, a sound, anything! But there was nothing.
"Just grow a pair, go out there, and shoot the damn thing!" You whisper shouted, making Shinso chuckle beside you.
Finally, night began to fall, and with that, the old man knew he wouldn't be able to sleep here tonight. No. He couldn't, not after what he'd seen. So, he slowly begins to move the furniture away from the door.
Kirishima shook his head again. "Oh no, no, no." Kirishima muttered.
"Don't do it!" You pleaded.
He grips his shotgun tightly in his hands, and opens up his front door. The forest is pitch black outside and everything is still, everything is silent. He takes in a deep breath and begins to walk outside. He doesn't bother shutting the door behind himself because he doesn't want to alert that, thing. He steps over the piles and piles of animal carcasses, keeping his eyes glued on his truck. It's only just a couple more steps away. And that's when he stops in his tracks.
You let out a whimper and tucked your face into someone's shoulder, not bothering to look up at the moment and see who it was.
"Directly behind him, he hears a low, long, deep, meow." Kaminari said, finishing the story. It took a little bit before everyone recovered. Kirishima was the first to speak.
"Oh hell no! Nope!" Kirishima shouted, shaking his head. Kaminari smiled, laughing at you all.
"That's it! You guys like that?" He asked. Midoriya looked pretty shaken.
"Wow. That was, really scary." Midoriya said. Todoroki looked at Kaminari.
"I liked it," he said. He looked down at you. "Did you like it, [Y/N]?" He asked. You looked up, realizing that you had tucked our face into Todoroki's shoulder. You sat up and gave a shaky sigh.
"T-That was honestly, terrifying, but really good, Denki! My hands are still shaking!" You said, holding up your hands, which, were in fact, shaking. Shinso smiled, letting go of your hand.
"I liked it to, Kaminari. It was really good." He said. Todoroki nodded.
"That was a great story." He said. Kirishima rubbed his arms.
"It gave me the chills, man!" Kirishima said. Bakugou scoffed.
"Tch. That was shit! It wasn't even that scary!" Bakugou said. You smirked at Bakugou.
"Oh, you sure, Blasty-Mc-Splode? You look a little pale in the face." You teased. Bakugou glared at you.
"Shut up! I'm not scared!" Bakugou growled. Kirishima chuckled.
"Sure man." Kirishima said. He looked at all of you, smiling. "Did you guys like your hot dogs?" He asked. You smiled at Kirishima.
"Mine was great, Eijiro, thank you." You said. Kirishima smiled at you.
"No problem, [Y/N]. I'm glad you liked it." He said. Midoriya smiled and nodded.
"It was great, thanks Kirishima." He said. Bakugou growled, crossing his arms.
"Mine was burnt to shit. But it was still good, I guess." Bakugou mumbled. Kirishima smiled.
"I'm glad!" He said. Kaminari looked up and smiled.
"Oh, I have an idea. Just to spice things up a little more." Kaminari said. You looked at Kaminari.
"What is your idea, Denki?" You asked. Kaminari smiled.
"Let's all get dressed up in our costumes and do a test of courage!" Kaminari suggested. You froze lightly. The last time you had done the test of courage, you and Bakugou had gotten kidnapped by the League of Villains for your quirks. Had it not been for Midoriya, Todoroki, Kirishima, Iida and Momo, you and Bakugou might have been killed, or worse, turned into Nomu for Tomura Shigaraki's plans. Bakugou glanced at Kaminari.
"Huh? Test of Courage? Not that dumb crap again." Bakugou growled. Midoriya looked at Kaminari.
"Like the one we were doing back at the training camp that one time?" He asked. Kirishima frowned.
"Wait, I mean, yeah, it'd be fun and all, but you really want to go in the woods while it's so dark? And after that weird sound we heard? I don't know." Kirishima said. You nodded.
"And if I'm gonna be honest," you said, making everyone look at you. "The Test of Courage we did at the training camp back then didn't exactly, end well." You said. You frowned and looked down at your hands. Kaminari smiled.
"Oh come on you guys! I didn't get to do the Test of Courage last time because I was stuck with Aizawa. So were you, Kirishima. Don't you want to give it a try?" He asked. Kirishima sighed.
"Ah man, I don't know." He said, Bakugou scoffed.
"It was stupid, though. You didn't miss out on much. We just walked around until people scared us and that was it. Besides, I, I don't want to go back in there." Bakugou said. Kaminari smirked.
"Ah, Kachan's scared!" He teased. Bakugou glared at him.
"I'm not scared!" Bakugou growled. Kaminari smirked.
"Prove it then, Blasty. Come on, let's do it!" Kaminari said. Kaminari looked at you. "How about it, [Y/N]? How about you and Blasty, walk through the woods while the rest of us try and scare you. Sound fun?" He asked. You sighed. Kaminari wasn't going to give up easily. You sighed in defeat.
"Sure. Let's do it." You said. Besides, what could go wrong in the Test of Courage?
//Here's Part 5. I hope you all like it. I decided that for the Reader's Halloween costume, they could either be Emily from the Corpse Bride or Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas. Or you all could just choose a different costume that you like. Please don't start arguing in the comments about whether Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie, or a Christmas movie. Save that for your friends and family, not the story comments. Thank you.//
