Chapter Six: Investigations and Hesitations *Conan*
"Keita's room is really neat," Genki mumbled as he squated down a bit to check Keita's suitcase for any clues.
"I agree," Semo nodded in agreement, bending over the bed so he could look around.
"He's always been the neat kind of person," Tecna offhandedly remarked, looking through Keita's desk drawers. "You know how he is too, Semo."
"I do, but well..." Semo sighed, leaning on the wall. "It's still tiring to deal with. Why is he so, so neat?"
"Good point," I sweatdropped a bit. "But that means we'll be able to spot any inconsistencies easier."
"Oh, like that certain person over there?" Elsa sighed as she pointed to FC Choiseung, who was sitting on the couch, looking dead to the world. "He's been like that since FC Akino lost his mind."
FC Keisuke was quiet upon hearing that. His eyes held some sort of guilt over his own outburst. I guess that he never wanted that to happen.
Then again, did any of us expect it? No, not in the slightest. We thought this was going to be a fun trip.
I massaged my forehead. Focus, Conan. You need to find clues to rescue the heads from whoever kidnapped them.
I went to my knees, checking the floor for anything suspicious with my hands. I had to find something. Ran was worried for Occhan, and I was too. I needed to save them.
A hand suddenly placed itself on my shoulder, making me look up to see my younger brother (well, actually older due to me being seven now, but oh well), who looked concerned.
"Hey, Oniichan, don't push yourself," his eyes held the kind of concern one would expect from him. "Rome wasn't built in a day, you know."
I sighed, getting up to address his statement, "Genki, I need to do this. All the heads have been taken. Whatever we can find, the sooner the better. There's a golden time for everything."
"You look tired, though," he reminded. "It's okay, Oniichan. Let us do the searching, alright?"
"But-"
"Oniichan, I think you need rest," his tone grew a bit stern. "You haven't been sleeping well, have you?"
I froze, but I soon groaned, "It was that obvious?"
"Yeah. Oniichan, it's okay to say when you're too tired. You need to know when to say, 'I need a break.' It's not good for you if you keep this up. Plus..." his eyes landed on FC Choiseung, and they softened, "I have a feeling he needs your help to get back to his feet."
"I-I guess so..." Hesitation still remained in my heart. I was used to doing it all by myself...
"Hey, it's okay," Dukun smiled as he walked over to pat my head gently. "You're not alone anymore, Conan-kun."
"I... I'm not sure," I finally admitted. "Even though I've been part of this group for ages, I still feel more comfortable doing it by myself."
"Even if you do, you need to know when to let others in," Genki gently told me, his words soft and understanding. "You can't keep up a barrier up forever. We all get hurt in the supernatural side of things, no matter how much we try to avoid it. No one is exempt from that. You don't have to protect us all, because we'll do it together. Not alone. Remember all those cases? We solved them together, Oniichan. Don't ever forget that."
My eyes sparkled. So much emotion coursed through me. I had to hold back a sob as I suddenly tackled Genki to the ground, "G-Genki... T-Thank you..."
He only patted my head in reply, grinning with energy in his tone, "That's more like it, Oniichan!"
As he moved to stand up, though, he blinked, tilting his head sidewards before he looked down.
My eyes followed his gaze, and just like that, I couldn't believe my eyes, "Guys! Come over here!"
Everyone's heads swivelled over, and even FC Choiseung looked a bit surprised by my outburst.
Everyone slowly moved towards where we were, and soon found ourselves face to face with a familiar symbol on it.
I gasped, "The Pentagram Symbol!"
"Isn't that Ryoka's sword?!" Dukun asked.
"So this is..." Madoka looked scared. "Does this mean..."
"Something's wrong... We need to figure this out quickly," FC Choiseung mumbled. It felt like he had snapped out of his trance, which was a good thing.
"To save them, and to clear your name," Semo nodded.
I blinked, feeling a bit weirded out as I saw him here with us. Semo wasn't in Cabin CC. In fact, all of us had decided to stick together after bonding a bit last night. It was quite nice to know that you could trust someone.
"You can leave now, Semo," I reminded him. "You need to take care of Hari and Naegi, right?"
"Hari's with Ryuuichi, and Naegi's busy with Appa," he shot down. "Plus, I want to help. Something tells me that FC Choiseung's not the bad guy here. As much as I'm Hana and Duri's brother, I need to stay unbiased. I don't believe that he did it. Plus, he has an alibi, doesn't he?"
"Yeah, he does," FC Keisuke nodded. "Monaca said that they may have been taken at 12 a.m. last night, and that time was when he had come over to my room to play Battleship."
"But what FC Akino said was kinda fishy," Sachiko frowned as she crossed her arms, eyes landing on FC Choiseung. "What were you doing in your dad's room?"
"That's a good point," Tecna nodded.
FC Choiseung's eyes landed on the ground, seeming quite nervous, "E-Eto... I-I don't know..."
"Choiseung-nii," FC Keisuke placed his hand on his shoulder, concern in his eyes. "You should tell us. We won't judge if you tell us at all. Plus, this is so you can find your dad, remember?"
A shaky breath escaped his lips. He still seemed hesitant.
Something in me could relate. He had just been accused of kidnapping his own dad and friend by another friend, so it made sense that he felt that he couldn't trust anyone. His own close friends had somewhat betrayed him. Honestly, there was a possibility their friendship had been broken in just one day.
FC Keisuke didn't seem deterred, though. He placed his hand on the elder's shoulder, a genuine smile on his face, "Don't worry. I'm sure we'll get through this. You gotta have faith in your friends, right? We're all friends here now. Even if we've only known the others for a day, they care."
Steven nodded, "Yeah. Don't worry about the others. Even if they give up on you, we won't."
"You're a kind soul, FC Choiseung," Rantaro smiled. "If FC Akino can't see that, then he has a few screws loose in his head. He hasn't even fought in combat on his own yet. He's only been behind the scenes. How can he feel like he's more important than you?"
"He needs a reminder that you're who you are, and he can't get mad at you just for having a crush on him," Genki raised his arm, grinning all the while. "But you gotta do it. We can't make him see that. Only you can."
His eyes watered, as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing, "G-Guys..."
Sachiko moved forward and gave him a gentle hug, "We'll do it together, FC Choiseung. Don't worry."
His only reply was to sink into her embrace. Little sobs could be heard from within, which only made us share a smile. He was finally opening up.
Eventually, he managed to wipe his tears away, "A-Alright then. I-I have to admit something to you guys then."
"Sure! Don't hold back!" Dukun offered.
And so, FC Choiseung explained. It was quite the long explanation, but at the end of it, we could only hear one conclusion, while trying to hold in our shock over another revelation.
"So... You're bisexual and a biromantic?" Madoka put it together, albeit a bit too bluntly.
He nodded, looking down at his shoes, as if he was ashamed of that fact.
That's probably why he looked surprised when Steven cheered out of nowhere, "Alright! I have a fellow bisexual and biromantic here!"
"E-EH?!" Okay, all of our eyes widened hearing that statement.
"Steven, you're bi?" Tecna's face had the word WHAT?! written all over it like a stamp.
"Y-Yeah," he flushed slightly, yet it didn't seem to impact him that much. "I had that feeling, y'know. It fits me, and made me feel good. So it's gotta be right."
"Huh, that's new," Elsa grinned. "But you're not alone too! I'm an asexual and aromantic! I don't have any romantic interests or crushes, which helps a lot!"
"Heh, I'm a pan," FC Keisuke put his hands behind his head, easing into the atmosphere.
"You guys know I'm straight as a cake," I laughed.
"And I'm with Elsa-nee in the ace section," Genki linked arms with the Guardian, eliciting giggles from her as Madoka confessed, "I-I think I may be pan as well. S-So I guess that means I-I'm with FC Keisuke-kun?"
"I'm bi too!" Sachiko waved around.
"I'm as straight as Conan's justice meter," Tecna joked.
"Welp, I guess that leaves me with Dukun, huh?" Rantaro laughed. "We're clearing not bi or pan. We both swing the less than normal way."
"You're dating Shinguji Korekiyo. How can we not know?" I drily pointed out.
That only brought out the laughter. In that moment, I saw Semo leave the room with a small smile on his face, which relieved me. Looks like he had been here to check on FC Choiseung.
But we had dealt with that. So he could go back to the others.
Now, all we had to do was solve this together.
I was sure of our strength, so as long as we trusted each other, it would work out.
