Chapter 2

Good news! Besides the fact that I finally updated the book, this will be the only time skip in this book! I think. This is just after Fishpaw's Lost Claw, so go read that if you haven't.

Fawnpaw padded out of the den, the other apprentices behind her. Owlpaw and Lakepaw were snickering, Darkpaw was scowling, and Dustpaw was running to catch up to her. "Sorry about Fishpaw," he meowed.

"It's fine. We should have been smarter. Besides, Sweetrose is just making a big deal about a pulled claw," she responded. Her energy from before was gone. "Besides, you weren't even there. So why are you apologizing?"

"Because you looked upset."

Fawnpaw gave him a funny look. Dustpaw didn't really look like the observant type, but neither was she. Still, he'd never said anything like that before. "I guess I am," she said flatly.

Dustpaw shrugged and padded over to Fallenbird, his mother. Fawnpaw had always felt bad for the pair. After Reedshade was killed in WindClan's latest attack, Fallenbird became introverted and quiet. Dustpaw, however, had become more active and outgoing, as if to make up for his mother's sudden retreat from life.

Cocoatail padded over to where Fawnpaw and the others were. "Alright, that's enough standing around," he meowed. His voice lacked confidence, but any apprentice that didn't have bees in their brain knew it was better to listen to him than to ignore the former kittypet. "Go find your mentors. I'm sure that they have something for you to do."

As the apprentices dispersed, Fawnpaw was left standing glumly in front of the cream colored tom. "Well," he said, smirking. "Did you enjoy your little adventure? "

Fawnpaw scowled. Cocoatail was a nice mentor, but he often slipped back to his old kittypet attitude. Lakepaw liked to say that his collar filled his brain with kittypet mush. "Sorry, Cocoatail," she muttered.

"Hey, there's nothing to be sorry for! You just gotta do better next time." He flicked his tail. "Besides, we've got training to do."
