Chapter 24 ( A spider's unshed tears)
Claude's P.O.V.
After Ciel and his butler left, (Y/N) was still a little upset. Apparently another rule of marriage was broken, the one were we could not see each other before the wedding. I embraced (Y/N) to give her comfort. Never had it been so difficult to keep her safe. Sebastian insisted on finding ways to ruin everything for both of us. I was not happy that they were invited to the wedding but (Y/N) insisted. I thought it was a bad idea but she knew how to convince me. How could I deny my butterfly?
Timeskip...
Reader's P.O.V.
Before we knew it,our wedding day had arrived. It was scheduled to begin in a few hours. I was both anxious an nervous at the same time. No better way to confront the situation than by talking to someone who had also experienced a bride's feelings before hand. Throughout the day, the manor was getting ready for the final preparations. The Triplets were designing an ice sculpture of Claude and I, Alois was yelling at the caterers and Hannah was slowly making arrangements with the priest while sorting out guest arrangements. Claude wasn't present, I assumed he was working on presenting himself.
I needed to get away from all the noise for a while. I needed to talk to Mrs. Anne, I wanted to make sure she was alright. On my way out, Hannah insisted on accompanying me but I didn't want to bother her. She was busy, so I politely declined.
I was thinking all kinds of thoughts about today, that the walk to Madam's didn't seem far at all. When I arrived I opened the door that sounded the tiny bell. It was strange, Madam's was quiet and a waft of cold air greeted me when I entered.
(Y/N): Mrs. Anne!?
I called out. No response. Mrs. Anne had had trouble hearing lately, so she must have not heard me. She should be in the back room, she often worked back there. I headed towards the back of the store. I was glad to see Mrs. Anne in her quilted chair. She appeared to be asleep.
(Y/N): There you are.
I went over to wake Mrs. Anne but my heart sank when I felt how cold she was. I instantly knew what had happened. I loathed this day even though I knew it would come eventually. Mrs. Anne had died and I just couldn't grasp it. She looked so peaceful as if she were asleep. I wasn't even there to tell her good bye but what really got to me was the fact that she was still clutching her wedding invitation. All she ever wanted was to see me walk down that aisle yet she died on my wedding day before she could. I wanted to cry so badly as I gently took the invitation out of her hand that seemed to never want to let it go.
I wished to cry but I refused to. She wouldn't want me to be sad on my wedding day even if she was dead. Its like I could hear what she would have said: " Oh darling don't cry over me, I lived way passed my time. I knew this day would come eventually. There's a time and a place to cry but I don't want you to feel sad, you have to be strong not just for yourself but for me and everyone else's sake. For that, I made a promise. I wouldn't be upset, it's the least I could, it saddened me to think what would become of the famous Madam's now, as I picked up the phone to call the bobby ( That's what the British call the police, for those that didn't know.)
Meanwhile at the Morgue....
A few minutes before I came to the morgue, I watched as they towed Mrs. Anne's body away. Then as much as I didn't want to, I had to come to the morgue for her funeral arrangements. I had to admit that even in her coffin, Mrs. Anne looked happy. I put her wrinkled but soft hand in mine. A moment passed before I heard someone else entering the funeral parlor. This stranger was rather unique and was wearing all red even his hair matched his attire. As he came in he complained about how dreary the place was. He was wearing woman's clothing and acted like a girl but anyone could see he was male. What I noticed right away were his eyes. Those eyes were not of human origin as I've learned from Claude. He had told me about reaper's a while back. They weren't really a problem, but this one was a particular nuisance. I knew reaper's only came when they had to collect someone. He was here for Mrs. Anne. He had caught sight of me and immediately showed his personality.
Grell: Oh darling, you know this old bat?
(Y/N): Excuse me?
Grell: It took me foooooorever to try and collect her but she just wouldn't die no matter how long I waited. Of course I knew she wasn't going to die for a while so I forgot about her. I have to ay for a human she lived longer than usual. Are you her daughter?
(Y/N): Not exactly but we were close. I'm (Y/N), she's been looking after me.
I looked down. Before I could feel a hint of sadness another voice came from behind.
Undertaker: Now, Now my dear, I don't allow frowns in the shop.
Grell: Undertaker you sexy old fool.
He giggled.
Undertaker: Nice to see you again too Sutcliffe.
I stared at them. They knew each other? How strange that I've never seen any of them, especially the town's own undertaker. He seemed like a nice guy, he obviously liked to laugh, even though he appeared morbid his personality told other wise. I couldn't look into his eyes because of his bangs covering his face but a scar on his face was slightly showing. Claude had also said he was a reaper but was living in the human realm.
Eventually his attention was brought back to me.
Undertaker: You must be (Y/N) and this must be Mrs. Anne Bea Dalton, the newest arrival.
(Y/N): Yes I am and It's nice to meet you.
Grell: You two can get friendly later, I have other people to kill. I'm running late so I have to collect this grannies memories and go.
I knew Undertaker was feeling a little uneasy at the fact Grell was going to reap someone in front of a human, but at the same time he got the feeling that I knew about this already. He didn't say anything as Grell pulled out a blood red chain saw and proceeded to drive it through Mrs. Anne's corpse. Only he didn't need to apply much pressure. Mrs. Anne died of old age so her memories would come out peacefully. It was a spectacle to be able to witness at this moment. Her memories projected out and I was able to see glimpses of her life from her birth to her death. This wonder only lasted a moment before Grell had gotten what he need and was preparing to leave. Before he completely left out of the shop, he remembered something.
Grell: Dear me I almost forgot. When I went to the old woman's shop I found a letter with your name on it. She wanted you to have it. (Grell pulled out an envelope and handed to you)
I grabbed it and Grell turned to leave again.
Grell: Ta Ta (Y/N). Maybe we might run into each other again and I'll be able to give you proper tips on clothing.
(Y/N): What's wrong with the way I dress?
I said aloud.
Undertaker: Oh nothing, he just likes the color red.
Undertaker said.
(Y/N): Grell wait.
Grell stopped in his place and turned to me.
Grell: What is it darling?
(Y/N): Mrs. Anne died before she could come to my wedding and since she won't be needing the invitation, you can have it. Both of you are invited, you can bring whoever you want.
Grell: Oh my how wonderful, I just love wedding's especially the thought of me and Sebe-chan's. He'll be there right?
(Y/N): Sure.
Undertaker: I'm glad to attend. I have a feeling your the little missy marrying that other butler?
(Y/N): I am.
Undertaker: You must be special.
Grell: And I need something special to wear! Now, I'm so excited, can't wait to tell Will!
With that said, that was the last I saw of the red reaper for the day as he bounded out of the shop.
Undertaker: As for now, little (Y/N), I shall begin the autopsy, care to assist me?
I quietly accepted the offer before looking down at the envelope in my hands........
