Chapter 6

I stared at the poster on the side of the building. On it was a picture of a crystal embedded in a silver necklace. There was a splotch of red inside the crystal.

The poster read, 'Big unveiling of brand new artifact at the History Museum this Friday'.

I grinned. That's just a few days from now. Looks like I'll get to pull a heist. Who would've thought I'd find out about another crystal in the same day.

I glanced up at the darkening sky from underneath my hood. I had stopped by my old house and grabbed a black jacket that went well with my grey t-shirt and dark blue jeans.

It was a bit difficult to get my long, wavy hair tucked into my hood, but I managed. It's worth it to keep my face hidden from people.

I turned and began walking down the street with my hands in my pockets. Selene is gonna love this news. She was right about the possibility of finding a few crystals in the city. Her powers really are something.

The sudden sound of glass breaking snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked at one of the small apartment buildings where I'd heard the noise. I removed my hands from my pockets and placed one on the hilt of my knife.

I slowly walked around the building, seeing one of the windows broken. I peered inside, immediately catching sight of blood splattered on the floor. What the hell's going on in there?

I carefully climbed inside, feeling my hands get cut from the broken glass. I looked down at my palms, watching the cuts heal up. My eyes widened. Selene wasn't joking when she said she gave me the ability to heal.

I suddenly heard a loud thud come from upstairs. I froze momentarily, glancing at the ceiling. My eyes darted around at the blood on the floor. I then caught sight of legs sticking out from around the nearby couch.

I quietly moved closer until I could see the corpse of a woman. She had deep gashes across her neck. My eyes grew wide and a gasp escaped my lips. Could this be his doing?

My excitement grew and I grinned. This could be my chance. I looked over at the staircase and slowly made my way over. I unsheathed my hunting knife while ascending the stairs. Once at the top, I looked down the small hall, seeing several doors open.

I quietly walked forward, passing a room where a bloody corpse of a young boy lay sprawled out on the floor. I pressed on, finally coming to a large bedroom. I froze, seeing a figure inside.

It was him. With messy black hair and dressed in a white hoodie and black pants, I instantly recognized him despite his back facing me. He held a knife dripping with blood and stood over the body of a man.

I struggled to contain my excitement. I won't let this chance slip by. I silently crept forward, approaching him from behind with a grin plastered on my face. Once I was close enough, I raised my knife.

Bringing it down, the man whirled around and caught my arm, stopping me from stabbing him. His unblinking eyes seemed to widen ever so slightly.

"What the hell...? Didn't I kill you already?"

I laughed, my grin never fading. "Oh, so you remember me? I figured you would've forgotten the face of someone you murdered."

I broke out of his grip and backed away. I slid my hood off, freeing my hair.

"How are you alive?" he asked with confusion and annoyance in his tone. "I killed you."

I lunged forward, swinging my knife at him. He blocked my blade with his own.

"Because while you left me for dead, I was given a second chance by someone else," I explained. "Now all I want to do is make you pay!"

I began slashing away at him while yelling, "I'll chop you up into pieces! I'll make you suffer! I want you to die!"

I continuously slashed and stabbed at him, but he blocked or dodged me every time. I was getting frustrated with his shit.

"Sit still so I can hit you, damn it!" I shouted in anger.

At that point, my rage got the best of me. The man swiftly moved in close and plunged his knife into my stomach. I gasped and noticed the guy's carved smile widen. I stared down at the blade in my abdomen.

I grinned menacingly once more and met his gaze. I laughed at him, unable to contain myself any longer. His eyes seemed to widen.

"That won't work on me anymore, idiot," I told him.

I took the opportunity and raised my knife. I stabbed it down into his left shoulder. The man let out a low yelp of pain. Before he had a chance to react, I twisted my knife within his flesh and finally yanked it out.

He stumbled back, gripping his torn, bloody shoulder. "What the hell?! You little bitch!"

I chuckled darkly. "Doesn't feel so great being on the other end of the blade, huh?"

I slid his knife out of my stomach, watching the bloody wound heal up. I then tossed his weapon onto the floor. I smirked and advanced toward him. Suddenly, the sound of sirens reached my ears. I froze, turning my head to look at the window.

At that moment, the man charged toward me. He shoved me down, snatched his knife off the floor, and darted out the door. I growled and jumped to my feet, chasing after him.

I followed his trail of blood downstairs and out the broken window. There, the trail faded. I looked all around, but couldn't see him anywhere. Damn he's fast, where'd he go?!

Hearing the police sirens getting closer, I clenched my fists in anger and ran. I sprinted down a few streets to the safety of the woods. Once past the trees, I knew I was home free. But that didn't stop me from being so infuriated.

I kicked at the closest tree. "Damn it, damn it, damn it! I had that bastard!"

After my tantrum, I sighed and gave myself a minute to cool down. It's alright, I'll get another shot at killing him. Now I know that he is definitely in this area, maybe Selene will know where.

I brought my fingers to my lips and whistled. It wasn't long before I could hear the galloping of hooves. I looked to see Latte heading toward me. She slowed down and stopped in front of me.

I smiled at her and climbed onto her back. Selene was right, they do take orders. I told Latte to wait within the woods and come if I whistled, and she did just that.

I rode deep into the woods back to Selene's place. I climbed off my horse and went inside. Selene was sitting in front of a bright green fire. She must be speaking with the dead again.

Fang and Saber glanced at me but didn't move from their spots. I slowly approached Selene, staying quiet until she was finished. After a few minutes, the fire went back to normal and Selene looked up at where I stood.

"Naomi, welcome back. I feel that you had better luck than I did."

I smiled and nodded. "I saw one of your crystals on a poster in the city. It's gonna be displayed at the museum in a few days. Apparently they think it's some kind of artifact or something."

She smiled. "Nicely done. Once it is revealed to the public, you can swoop in and snatch it."

She then glanced down at my blood-stained clothes and frowned. "Did you run into trouble?"

I instantly grinned. "I met my killer. We fought and I managed to wound him before he got away. Thanks to you, he didn't kill me again. Have you found out where he's hiding?"

She shook her head. "I'm sorry, I haven't. For some reason, the spirits are either unwilling or unable to tell me. What does he look like?"

"Well, he's got white, bleached looking skin. His hair is about shoulder length and pitch black. His eyes have no lids and he has a permanent smile carved onto his face."

Selene tapped her chin in thought. "Hmm, definitely not at all like a normal person. Is he even human? Doesn't matter, with a face like that along with his violent nature, he's sure to reside away from people. So if he's not in the city..."

She paused briefly and looked toward the door. "He's somewhere within these very woods."

I gasped. "But how has he not been discovered? We've been looking everywhere and still can't find where he lives."

Selene smirked. "Same as me. He must live deep in the forest in a secluded, hidden place. We can begin searching tomorrow. I'll get a nice hot meal started."

I glanced down at my stained clothes. "Do you have any way of washing your clothes and stuff out here?"

Selene chuckled. "There is a small spring hidden just behind my home. I often bathe out there."

I went back outside and behind the large tree. Just a short distance away was a pretty spring. It was surrounded by thick trees and large rocks, making it a great place to get some privacy.

I undressed and got into the water. I took my clothes in with me and scrubbed them clean. I then washed my skin and hair. I relaxed for a bit in the cool water.

Once done, I slipped my wet clothes back on and headed back inside. I stood around the fire, letting the heat dry my clothes a little. Selene looked up at me from where she sat.

"You know, you could always bring more of your clothes out here," she told me.

"I probably will tomorrow," I replied simply.

At that moment, Bella and Edward climbed in through one of the small, window-like holes in the tree. They came over to me.

I bent down and asked them, "Did you find anything?"

They both shook their heads. I sighed and pet them both. "That's alright, we'll try again tomorrow."

That's right, tomorrow our search for that guy begins. Since I can't get that crystal at the museum just yet, we'll shift our focus to my killer and any other crystals we stumble upon. I can't wait to find him and finish the job.
