Chapter 8: Sylvia Noctis, The Lone Wolf

Sylvia roamed the streets through which the princess would have travelled. She tried her best to blend into the shadows. Being unnoticed wasn't something that came naturally to her but rather something she learnt through the years, from Seraphina. Seraphina has taught her the importance of not being sensed, while tracking something.

As a werewolf, who very much liked to travel in packs and not caring whether they were seen or not, Sylvia also didn't think of the advantage of blending into the background. Perhaps that was the reason she was caught by a small group of hunters, a group she had wanted to attack. Seraphina had rescued her from the hunters and they had been inseparable since.

One might wonder why Sylvia had gone to attack the group of hunters, the story is a bit long. But as Sylvia kept an eye on the route, her mind drifted to her past. Her father had been a renowned warrior in her pack but fed up with the injustice of the Alpha, her father had challenged the alpha. When her mother had asked her father why he had done so. Her father had replied, someone had to do something and if he could be that someone, he would do anything for the pack.

The rules of an Alpha challenge are strict. It was usually a fight to death, but could be different for each pack. Unfortunately for Sylvia's pack, it was a fight to death. Sadly her father had lost the challenge and died in the end. Sylvia's family, her mother, sister and Sylvia herself, were expelled from the pack, making them rogues. Her mother was not able to handle the loss of her mate. Sylvia and her little sister lost their mother too.

Life as a rogue was not an easy one. They had to constantly be aware of the surrounding pack borders and avoid crossing them no matter what. Any rogue who crossed a pack border was considered as an attacker of the pack and in most cases was killed on sight. There were a lot of rogues who would form a rogue pack and attack other packs in hopes of taking their territory but because of them even peaceful rouges were killed on sight if they came too close to any pack. Most of the peaceful rouges seek refuge in the area that weren't occupied by any of the neighbouring packs.

Sylvia had dedicated her life to taking care of sister, her only family left. They were happy being each other's family. But one day her sister had been caught by the hunters, who loved to target rogues as they were defenseless. The hunters, just a group of five, had killed her sister, she was just a child. Sylvia had lost her whole family, she had become a Lone Wolf. Sylvia had gone mad with rage. She tracked down the hunters but they saw her coming and caught her, she also would have been killed if not for Seraphina also going after the hunters too.

Seraphina had thought that Sylvia had been much like her. Sera had offered Sylvia to come with her, the latter had no one left, and had agreed to go with Sera. Sylvia had been twenty-five years old while Sera had been twenty years old.
Sylvia loved to cook and became a chef in Celestine. She was naturally good at tracking. She helped Sera with her henchwoman work in whatever way possible. Their bond grew over the years and Seraphina came to trust Sylvia. But at the same time Sylvia's hatred of the hunters grew.

Nikolai had just been a kid when Sylvia had met him, he reminded her of her sister and had come to see him as her brother. Sylvia constantly bickered with and teased Nik. Nik also saw Sylvia as his sister but didn't like it whenever she tried to baby him. Sera and Nik became her family. She had thought her life was over but now she again had a family.

Over the years she had become even better in tracking and being undetectable while doing so. She had even been offered to be a part of Alaric's royal pack due to her great contribution for rescuing his daughter from the rogues. Sylvia had declined the offer politely, she hadn't felt ready yet to join back into a pack, she thought it would bring back bad memories.

Sylvia's chain of thought was broken when she saw a vampire male walking on the road. But that didn't raise her suspicion, it was the other two people following him. At first glance one might think they were just normal humans. It was the hunters advantage, they couldn't be detected by the other kinds.

Sylvia decided to follow them. True to her suspicion, the other two pounced on the vampire and injected him with a tranquiliser, rendering the vampire unconscious. They grabbed the unconscious vampire and kept walking.

Sylvia wanted to grab the hunters then and there, but held herself from doing so. Sera had instructed her not to engage with the hunters if she found them, only to try to find the location of the place where they were keeping the ones they captured.

Sylvia followed them silently. They also weren't paying much attention to their surroundings, too busy with handling the barely conscious vampire. They must be heading towards wherever they have been keeping those missing people.

After a long while, Sylvia saw them enter a rundown factory. The building looked abandoned but a slight glow of light was seen through the closed off windows. This must have been the place where they kept all those people, Sylvia thought. The urge to bust in there and kill those hunters was high, but Sylvia was not that young foolish hot blooded werewolf anymore, she took a good look at the place then made her way back.

She went in the direction of Celestine and on the route messaged Nik about what she had found and asked them to meet her at Celestine.
