Chapter 25: Good Bye
The ground vibrated as a dark blue aura surrounded Mortivus. "Finally free! Now let's send you all back to Abyss, shall we?" Mortivus did a gesture with his hand and immediately all the projections were sucked back down the ground.
Orion was frantically flipping through the pages of Bloodbound Grimoire, to find anything that could help him when the book flew away from his hand to Lunara's hand, she passed it to Mortivus who burned the book with the help of the blue flames known as the fire of the Abyss. "No! ... No!" Orion screamed.
Orion looked at Lunara with fear in his eyes. Was she going to kill him now? She does a motion with her hand and it makes Orion fall on his knees and he is dragged through the mud towards her. "Don't worry, I won't kill you. Death would be too quick of a punishment for your crimes. You were so prideful because of your affinity for necromancy, you twisted something which was meant to give peaceful interaction and guidance from past loved ones. You pride yourself for being the king of witches and wizards. Well you no longer are the king and now you won't be a wizard either." Lunara snapped her fingers and the dark veins around Orion's eyes disappeared and his ring disintegrated.
Orion kept on screaming as he was dragged away by the council to be locked away in the same dungeon where he killed his daughter, for the rest of his life. He was no longer the king and no longer a wizard, he was nothing but a prisoner.
Seraphina calmed down, she didn't have long. Her black gown melted into a flowy white dress as she walked towards her friends and family. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she looked at her father, grandfather, Nik and Sylvia. Nik and Sylvia didn't get the reason behind emotional expression but Thaddeus and Valerius felt their heart drop to the floor. Valerius's eyes teared up, so this was goodbye.
She first turned towards Mortivus and managed to give a small smile. "I am sorry I ignored you after you have waited so long for me. I was selfish. I didn't want to lose the only family I ever had." Mortivus took her hand and kissed her knuckles, "I have waited for centuries for you, a few more days didn't hurt especially when you were right here in front of me."
Shyra flew in and circled around the sky above them, then she transformed into her raven form and sat on Seraphina's shoulder. She petted Shyra as she said, "Shyra and you should head back, I will follow in a bit." Mortivus nodded and looked at her with an empathetic look, then walked away to give her some time with her family.
"What do you mean by ... going, cousin?" Nik asked, his voice barely above a whisper. She smiled sadly through her tears. "I can't stay here for long, the mortal realm was never meant to house the divine. It was fine till I was in mortal form but now the balance is too hard to maintain if I stay." Nik and Syl finally understood why Valerius was crying, Seraphina couldn't be with them any longer. She was trying to say goodbye.
Cassius, Leo and Theron just witnessed the emotional scene silently giving the family a quiet atmosphere. "Do you have to go, cousin?" Nik was also crying now along with his uncle and grandfather. Seraphina grabs Nik's hands and gives a firm squeeze. "You were the best cousin I could ever have. Your jokes made me laugh uncontrollably. I still remember the day you were born. It was the first time I felt real happiness after my mother's passing. I know this is goodbye but I will always be your cousin." She gave him a tight hug as they both continued to cry out their sorrow.
"Can't you stay a bit longer, Sera?" Syl asked Seraphina, while Syl wasn't even able to control her tears as they streamed down her face. "No amount of time would ever be enough Sylvia." Seraphina moved towards Sylvia and gave her a bear hug. "Thank you Sylvia for sharing your pain with me, for being my friend. I couldn't have done it without you. You are stronger than you know." Sylvia nodded as she tried to stop crying.
"You didn't even meet my mate Sera." Sylvia tried to joke but there was also a hint of seriousness in there, she had always wanted Seraphina to meet her mate. "You will meet him soon Sylvia, it's probably not what you are expecting but everything will work out in the end. Speaking of mates.... Leo, I hope you ask my Cousin out sooner rather than later." Both Leo and Nik start coughing as they definitely didn't expect that.
"And Cassius, I hope you will be a better person than your Father, both as a king and as a partner to your mate." Cassius felt confused but nodded. He wondered why she was calling his future partner a mate, he thought she was being cryptic.
Seraphina knew the next part of her goodbye was the most difficult. She never wanted her father to leave her and here she was saying goodbye to him, leaving him all alone. She was worried for him, she knew that the family would be there for him but she still couldn't help herself. Valerius smiled at her through his tears, as if telling her not to worry too much. Seraphina took a few steps as she smiled through her tears.
"Papa ... You said no matter what, you will always be my father. I want you to know that I couldn't have asked for a better father. I don't want to but ... this is goodbye and I am sorry that you have to go through this loss again." Valerius shakes his head as he pulls into a hug. "Don't feel guilty, dear. Focus on all the happy memories we made along the way. ... Tell Selene I love her when you meet her." She nods.
She turned towards Thaddeus and said, "Thank you for being my family. .... It's time I can't stay any longer." A strong wind blows by the disbalance of the mortal realm being converted to physical disturbance. She looked at them for one last time, "Goodbye...." Her body turned into a swarm of blue moon butterflies and they flew off into the night.
