Chapter 24: The Goddess
The Werewolf royals, the witch council and our group were busy fighting the army of the dead, they were trying their best to keep these creatures away from the civilian witches. Orion stood at a distance, his eyes gleaming with malic, he was eagerly waiting to see who would be the first one to die.
Seraphina and Venessa formed a team as Sera fought with her sword and they both manipulated water to flow fluidly through the air then converted them to icy spikes that pierced through the chests of the projections. Venessa addressed Sera in between fighting, "Thank you! I was finally able to get back at him." Seraphina smiled, "That's nice, but would have been better if we weren't surrounded by zombies after it."
The ghosts were eerie to look at, they looked like something that should just pass through you but they were very much physical, their blows hurt. All of them had destroyed a lot of the projections but they still kept coming at them like there was an endless supply. Some of the older witches were getting tired.
Seraphina had to do something, she got an idea. She screamed, "Shyra!". The little raven flew into the scene. "Tear them apart!" Seraphina ordered and Shyra transformed into her beast form to fight off the army.
Orion was shocked at the sight. Now where did that beast come from! Orion became frantic. He couldn't lose, not now! After doing all this! He again starts to chant to increase more of the onslaught. As he finished chanting more ghostly projections rose from the ground.
One particularly tired witch of the council was killed when the projections were successful in reaching her. The projection put its hands in her chest and crushed her heart from the inside. A tremor of teridiption went through them witnessing the death.
Orion felt a little bit disappointed, he wanted the first one to die to be the head of the council or Venessa or Seraphina but he smiled, they would die sooner or later. Orion let out a cackle, "Just give up and die you fools!" He was brimming with excitement, now they would drop one after the other.
Seraphina observed her surroundings as she continued to fight, most of the witches were exhausted by now after casting so many intensive spells to ward off the projections, they were never really skilled at hand to hand combat. Seraphina's friends and family were holding up for now but for how long this felt like a never ending fight.
Seraphina spotted Mortivus close by, the only one who looked like he hadn't broken a sweat yet. Sera's eyebrows scrunched up, isn't he the King of the dead. Seraphina made her way to him while trying to fight away the projections on her way, it was difficult as the concentration of the ghosts kept increasing. Who would have thought that one day she would have to fight an army of dead. Well she had also thought that she wasn't the one in the prophecy, look where that got her. At this rate anything could happen.
As Seraphina reached the earshot of Mortivus, she asked "Aren't you the King of the Abyss? ... Shouldn't they listen to you?" It didn't make sense to Seraphina that Mortivus couldn't control them. Seraphina sliced the throat of one of the projections, then went to fight another one, in the background a loud screech was heard as Shyra tackled a few dozen of the projections by herself but still the unlimited onslaught continued.
"As I said before, my love. My power is locked in the Abyss by Celestros, so I can't control them.... But you, my goddess, can access your power anywhere. Don't you think it's time you showed them what you can do darling." Mortivus looked at Seraphina with a meaningful look while Seraphina couldn't look him in the eye, her eyes glistening with tears. Was this the end?
"I know it will be the end of your mortal form. But you owe it to your friends and family to protect them. You owe it to me to stop pretending that you don't remember anything, my goddess." Mortivus stated the bitter truth, even Seraphina knew she had to do it, she couldn't ignore who she was anymore. She was Lunara, the Goddess of the Moon, Mortivus's Lover and the Queen of the Abyss.
Seraphina gathered all the water she had been manipulating and vapourised it, she used that energy to blast off all the projections within a ten metre radius. Everyone was surprised by this sudden display of power, even Venessa who had taught Seraphina how to use her power, was surprised. On the other hand Valerius felt a chill go down his spine, he could feel that the end was near.
Seraphina looked towards Orion, her eyes held contempt. "I have never seen such a worse combination of foolishness and arrogance. You never deserved to be the king. A true king would never even fathom destroying his own kingdom." Seraphina continued to walk even as more projections arised from the ground. Suddenly she was engulfed in blinding light and from the light emerged Lunara. Her dark wavy hair flowed through the air, her red eyes glowed like the blood moon in the sky, the heavy yet beautiful crown gleamed in the moonlight, her black gown twinkled like the night sky.
Orion's eyes widened in shock. No, it couldn't be! His already deranged mind could not accept the presence of the Moon Goddess, herself in front of him. "You... You can't stop me! I am the master of blood magic!" Orion tried to chant again but with a flick of her wrist, Lunara stopped him from speaking anything. Orion tries to speak but no voice comes out of his throat. Orion scratches his neck horrified. "I will deal with you later."
She looks around, the projections still walking towards the others. She turns to look at Mortivus. "Don't you think it is the time, my love?" Her eyes glow even brighter as she chants.
"Break the seal, the world unchained,
Undo the bonds that once remained.
The one who bound it knew not their role,
Now balance returns, both heart and soul.
The King and Queen, their thrones aligned,
A power long lost, at last, combined.
From depths of the Abyss, the shadows rise,
Unleashed to awaken beneath the skies."
